I like to think that he keeps his loyal cloud friend around and occasionally rides it to take the family to picnics. Just abandoning the little thing after all it did for him would be cold, man.

Kintoun never was gone for good. He's/it's right there at the end of the story. I always liked Kintoun he/it was a silent partner. Always ready to help no matter what. I wish that I had a sentient cloud that I could ride.

Yeah after Goku didn't need Kintoun anymore it got passed down to Gohan, and Gohan had it even when he was going to high school, and didn't he pass it on to Goten at some point? I was surprised it never went to pan, she probably could have used it the most out of all of them.

Power-wise Goku would have probably been quicker flying and I don't think he would have drained that much energy... Although I do see his valid point of conserving it for the battle ahead.
Just think if Videl has enough energy to fly then it must take quite a little.

I also noticed that going along snakeway he rarely flew, he mostly hitched rides on delapidated dust trucks and ran along the concrete path. - Surely running would take more energy than flying?

Actually... Can Goku fly properly during this period? He did briefly whilst being chased by Princess Snake, but was he still in the beginning stages of learning the technique?

Goku takes off flying at the very start of his journey across Serpent Road, but uses up his energy and is seen running later in the same chapter.

Do you think that once you are deemed unworthy by Kintoun that you can never ride it again? The only evidence against this is when Lunch can only ride it when shes in her "good mode". I think Krillin should get to ride it by DBZ, he seems to have really mellowed out and matured after being so outclassed. But then again he still had a crush on an evil android....

Saichourou would be interesting to see...

But I think we were talking about who is actually shown riding it, not just who is probably able to.

Actually we were talking about why goku still rides kintoun. I just added an extra thought.

True. I actually believe that she is unpure in her heart with her bad behaviour. She sinned as she entered the spaceship, leaving Goten behind and ruining everything. She sinned as she ruined the whole DBGT with her screaming "GRANDPAAAA!" all the time.
May judgement fall on her cursed soul, and let the dead rise to laugh at her pathethic existence, that she believes is important enough to let Goten behind! The root of evil may not dissappear, but a part of it will as her rotten soul will burn into ashes over and over again in hell!

Seriously, I think Goku and Gohan enjoy riding the kinto-un as it is like riding a horse or something, and they don't use up energy. Also you befriend with the animals you ride, and the kinto-un seemed kinda alive.
For Gohan, he was undisguised so he used the kinto-un to get to school. Noone saw him as they were watching the cloud from under.
When he got his Saiyaman suit, he stopped to use kinto-un as he could fly faster.

lol, to be honest i hated pan too, even in DBZ when she was just a little kid she just bugs me.
But Goku has sinned plenty of times just not really realizing the consequences of his actions. (He stole Yajirobe's "breaktest", and always ditches his family and stuff) I think Pan truly intended to help when she snuck on the ship, and she didn't even mean to take off without Goten she just wanted to tag along and help. And Chichi is kind of a bitch she is much more annoying than Pan but she still had a pure heart.

Yeah, Pan was... sorta obnoxious. But she was still a pretty cool character, I guess. I think she would be able to ride Kintoun, although, I could be wrong.

Huh. First time I've ever heard anyone else ponder Krillin's status with Kintoun. It's obvious why he couldn't ride the cloud during Master Roshi's training being that he was a pervert and a brat back in those days, but he seems almost completely purehearted as an adult. That might be part of the reason he gets along with Gohan so well during the Freeza Saga - he's as innocent as a kid, more or less.

There doesn't seem to be any reason for Goku to use the cloud IMO. The only explanation is that Toriyama wanted to use it to save Gohan, to make Goku's entrance more dramatic. But within the story it makes no sense. Kind of like how Goku ate a full senzu bean when he was getting tired, but then shows that Gohan and Krillin only needed half a senzu after being badly beaten up ...so why didn't he save some of his own for later(since he only had two!).
