When Kuririn was impaled by Freeza, yeah, and Dr. Gero putting his hand through Yamcha... definately thought he was dead.

Piccolo cutting Babidi in half.
Because despite having read through the Pojo guide of DBZ before the Buu saga, I missed how Babidi died and was expecting the cliche "Minion turns on master" thing.
... Oh wait...
And I totally didn't expect Vegeta to become a main character after the Freeza fight.
