Heh, the confusion over pronouncing Vic Mignogna's name reminded me of a conversation I had once with my husband at a convention :
Husband: There's a panel with Vic Mig...Mig....
Me: It's pronounced like 'lasagna'.
Husband: ....Vic Lasagna?
So, yeah, from what I've heard, it sort of rhymes with 'lasagna'.

See, it doesn't come up in the context of the conversation, I'm quite a bit dub fan in general, I'm just bad with names.Shiyonasan wrote: The sad part about hearing you guys talk about Vic Mignogna on the podcast is my sister is in the Vic Mignogna fan club....
Vic generally does good work, but his fans in general need to shut up.

I'm honestly so used to associating his voice with Ed from FMA that I end up picturing that character no matter who he's voicing. (For instance, his Tamaki sounds like "Fancy" Ed. And his Fai sounds like "all-grown-up" Ed. )
I haven't heard his non-screaming Brolli in a while, so I don't know about him.
Did he have a fanclub before he landed the FMA role or is that where it began?

I believe it simply grew bigger after his role with Ed. Especially all the girls who hounded him and Travis to say things as Ed and Roy about one another in regards to...certain things that're rather disturbing. >>Chuquita wrote:Did he have a fanclub before he landed the FMA role or is that where it began?

Just a side note; in Japan, they do the opposite of what's done in American animation and actually record the voices after the animation's finished. Not before like we do.

After hearing the man say it, I still cant say it right.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:I'm sad to know that I know the pronunciation from my younger sister's somewhat creepy FMA dub obsession.
Still, if talking to her, I tend to pronounce it "Magnolia" or "Melanoma" anyway.
I fight myself from saying Magnana

Ohhhh...the "...in a mini-skirt." stuff.
*Hasn't seen FMA in forever, but remembers something pertaining to that piece of clothing*.
I thought Nappa on TeamFourStar's Abridged pronounced his last name correctly; it sounds about right.
It looks like someone beat me to it.
SSJ4 Goku is on the box for GT Season 1, and guess what? The transformation doesn't occur until episode 35. Episode 34, Season 1's last episode ends with Pan talking Golden Oozaru Goku down and thus beginning (not completing) the transformation.
Mike and Meri have mentioned that SSJ4 Gogeta is on the box for Season 2, despite only appearing in 1 or 2 episodes. But unlike GT Season 1's Goku cover, SSJ4 Gogeta actually appears in episodes contained in the set. Not so for Season 1.
I didn't get it when they put SSJ Goku (from the Freeza arc) on Season 6 and Piccolo (from the Saiyan arc) on Season 7 (Seven was worse, mostly because those episodes marked the beginning of Piccolo's transformation from warrior to babysitter/comic relief... why show his attack on the box?!).
Mistakes, oversights, crops, dub, subtitles, laziness... the season sets are guilty of all these things. But they are also very reasonably priced, they aren't a VHS fansub or a $25 three-episode ripoff. In my book, little issues like these are small nitpicks when compared to the fact that I'll soon have the whole series' of DBZ and GT on my shelf.
Maybe Funimation (or whoever) will get the releases right one day. Its anyone guess, really. But for now, these are just fine for me.

I didn't knew that in America they record before the animation. If you ask me it sounds more logical to record after the animation.Dogasu wrote:Just a side note; in Japan, they do the opposite of what's done in American animation and actually record the voices after the animation's finished. It's easier to fit the animation to the words spoken correctly, than to try to say your lines while your character's lips are open.
As for the box art, you need to look at it from the point of view of someone who owns all the box sets. Its just a series of close-ups of the main characters, more or less.
We have for Z: Vegeta, Goku, Freeza, Trunks, Cell, SS Goku, Piccolo, SS/Majin Vegeta, and presumably Buu. Then for GT: SS4 Goku and SS4 Gogeta. It's just to sell the DVD sets to largest number of fans. Would more people buy a big orange brick with Piccolo or kid Goten on the cover?
EDIT: Fifty-two posts! 52!
