Shouldn't we do something about those downtimes?

The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Let me make myself clear by saying that I don't view this forum as a way to make friends. If that were the case, I would not mind it being down four weeks out of the month.
Rather, the Daizenshuu EX message board is important because serves as the most up-to-date information tool about about upcoming Dragonball-related media and merchandise. The site, while useful, certainly can't keep up with the various sources that a group of individuals can pool together in one place.
So yes, as NeptuneKai so aptly pointed out, this is a message board concerning a 'cartoon' (Though it also spills over into various other forms of media, so this modest label seems almost to discredit the importance of this franchise in the grand scheme of things). However, it is a cartoon that is all within our field of interest (and if it is not, perhaps you should re-evaluate your stay here), and as such I feel it is important to be up-to-date with releases, reviews, and general information that is largely not available on the main site.
Perhaps you may feel it is not necessary to have the boards accessible every day of the month. However, anyone who sees this community for what it actually is, a cornucopia of information as opposed to a useless social networking took, will easily see the importance of having it accessible 24/7, 365.
With that said, let's get back to talking about the cartoon, shall we...?

Well I'm sure if there's any important information, people could email it to Vegetto EX and he would put it on the main page in the next update, but I'm not certain about that. I mostly come here for the discussion, before I signed up to here, I was getting all the information I really needed from the main page of the site.

I don't host Daizex, so it will be a subdomain of one of my domains.Tweaker wrote: Does this also mean that Mike will finally be able to make the forum accessible as a subdomain of daizex.com? http://forums.daizex.com/ would make this board significantly easier to access without having to set a bookmark, I think.
Glad to see some solid hosting is set up, though.
Server should be far more stable. Worst thing that can happen is the extra MySQL load can overload the ram we do have, in which case I may ask for donations so that I can rent extra ram on the server.
Bandwidth should be a complete non issue though, won't know about the ram until the forum is completely hosted and I can check the load.

This is awesome. X3
I was so worried that with the Live Action Movie coming ever-closer that Daizex's forums would crash halfway through both March and April instead of the 24th or 26th of the month. @_@
(I had this mental image of it crashing the day the movie comes out in Japan).
While I do have other stuff to do while the forums are down, Dragon Ball information sites are few and far between nowadays.

Well, VegettoEX could always do a forwarding sub-domain.godofchaos wrote:I don't host Daizex, so it will be a subdomain of one of my domains.Tweaker wrote: Does this also mean that Mike will finally be able to make the forum accessible as a subdomain of daizex.com? http://forums.daizex.com/ would make this board significantly easier to access without having to set a bookmark, I think.

Which he could have always done anyways.Innagadadavida wrote: Well, VegettoEX could always do a forwarding sub-domain.
The flaw with that idea, if people remember the forward, lets say forum.daizex.com, and daizex goes down for whatever reason, then they will have problems finding the forum. The planned address for the forum will be much easier to remember then what it is currently though, so there shouldnt be much of a problem.
Without actually fully remembering the conversation, I think we are just waiting on some sorta master backup from the current forum host because the exported backup isn't acceptable for some reason.Kendamu wrote:So, how hard will it be to find what needs to be found to make the server jump possible?
When it all happens I'll probably toss up a few DBZ related prizes on my own website for people to nab.
Unlimited space and bandwidth never actually means unlimited. It means until there is an unreasonable load on the server. (a few rare ones do mean unlimited, but once it places an unreasonable load on the server that goes against the TOS, and you can get booted)SaiyaMel wrote:As of last summer - I have unlimited space and bandwidth on my domain.
I'm willing create a subdomain on it for here.
While mine has finite space, it's very large (all my stuff and the podcasts and Mike's videos on a monthly basis never even hit 5% for the bandwidth).
With forums, especially active ones, you need large amounts of ram for the MySQL load, 'unlimited' webhosts generally do NOT allow that kind of load unless you add a higher account level and tons of options.
Also, you obviously haven't followed the thread.

I hate when the forums are down because I like to view others' opinions on DragonBall related issues since my friends grew out of the franchise as they became men. Fortunately for me, I was able to focus on the girls and continue to manage my DragonBall fandom.
But hey, I'm not paying to hold up the forums so I can't complain.

Kuririn: Yeah, and your dad put his finger away too.
