Kai Episode 1 (05 April 2009)
That was a really great experience! I have to say, I'm loving Dragon Soul, a great song, meshed with some crisp animation! Not too keen on the closing theme.. but it may grow on me.
I've got to say though, I didn't hate mr.Kondo's score, but I was expecting a little more, the only great moment in his BGM was the stand-off with Piccolo and Raditz..
All in all though, it was very fast paced (a great 180 on the original episodes), and the character voices were back in full force!
Can't wait for episode 2!
Oh, and Luffy and Kuririn, I laughed so much.

My experience:
It was pretty easy to follow even without subs. The show doesn't really look HD to me, but I guess that's impossible with a show this old. It does look very good, the colors aren't blinding me and I haven't seen any lines disappearing. The cropping looked silly during scouter readings though.
Overall I really liked it. I'll just have to cope with the Japanese voices.

My review on Dragon Ball Kai Episode 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebj1eMVVYik
I thought it was really good, but I have to say....some of that voice acting was meh....maybe they shouldn't have kept all the original actors (besides dead ones of course).

I've got mixed feelings about Kai, especially since it's very apparent that they aren't tracing every scene, and when they are, the result isn't spectacular.

There are a few more, but Goku and Raditz are the most noticeable ones right off the bat.
Anyway, I loved the OP/ED songs and animation, and found the new BGM to be quite enjoyable, but I can't shake the weird feeling I get when I'm watching the old footage, I keep waiting for dialogue and musical cues that aren't there any more.
Edit: I added a couple more I spotted.

I just watched the opening and ending and I am amazed. It is fantastic, I wish the series had received that treatment as well...
I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one that noticed this but...
I don't quite get the layout though, mostly everyone is on the right place, except Piccolo is on Yamcha's place, Piccolo's place is empty and Yamcha is on Vegeta's future place.

I gotta ask for those of us that understood most of the dialogue w/o subs, wasn't it the same as the original anime like word for word almost? I noticed that there wasn't really any new dialogue.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Alright, it's time for my take on Dragonball Kai.
I love it. I love it! The Animation was so cool, and I love the fact that Gohan in the forest was shortened. I realized though, that I think almost all the filler within episodes that make up an actual chapter of the manga wil probably be left in, albiet shortened. I love the new OP and ED, and the score sounds way more interesting to me than DBZ's Japanese Score.
I cannot wait to see more of this. And I would so love to have mp3's of the OP and ED!

I don't know what it is about those flashback shots up there. The pics of Goku swinging from a tree looks like flash animation, also kinda looks like some detail was lost.
I kinda have mixed feelings about Kai. I think it would have been a better choice to re-do the whole series in new animation like they did with Dr.Slump. I can still enjoy Kai for what it is, but there seems to be something about it (at least to me) that seems a bit... off?

Yeah, it was almost exactly the same. The main difference is that some lines were left out, even ones from the manga: Raditz remarking on the people of Earth still being alive, Raditz wondering to himself if Kakarot has lost the pride of the Saiyans, Bulma wondering if Yamcha is the person Goku senses is approaching (the interesting thing about this one is that you can still see her lips move to say this line, it's just that no voice comes out).Vekurotto wrote:I gotta ask for those of us that understood most of the dialogue w/o subs, wasn't it the same as the original anime like word for word almost? Yea, that's another thing that bothered me. The opening animation has some really awesome shots and well drawn scenes while others...I just noticed this.. ew.

In it's defense though, that shot of Gohan goes by within a second. I know it's a quick shot but it still seems a bit lazy to me. There is no excuse for fucking up there faces on the final pose as you posted above though.
But, despite all that, I do like this intro.
