How far do we think they are ahead of the airing Jacob? I mean we saw a cut of Champa in the trailer for super and he hasn't even appeared yet in the show itself?

I dont know about Jaco, but I have a feeling that we are going to see Champa and her assistant in episode 13. Maybe by episode 20 or so we could see Jaco.

That cut of Champa was probably used only for the Opening or a commercial.

Shida Naotoshi was storyboarding something back in April. That was probably Episode #2, which aired 12 July 2015. Episodes are typically allowed only a month for animation. Yashima Yoshitaka has now served as animation supervisor for two episodes, Episode #3 and Episode #9. While I think Yashima is already working on Episode #15 or Episode #16 I don't think that implies episodes #10-14 are already finished. My guess is that Episode #10 is nearly finished and Episodes #11-12 will be nearly finished in one and two weeks. Mind you, by 'finished' I mean they will not be worked on anymore past a certainly point, not that they will look any good. There's so little time and staff available I'm sure everyone is rushing to try to get ahead as quickly as possible.

I'm not entirely sure who will handle Episode #10. It's hard to say without first knowing when the battle will end. If the battle ends at the Episode #11 then I think that will be the episode to get all of the staff. If it ends in Episode #12 then I think that will be the episode to receive the most care. I'm hoping Tate Naoki will at least handle Episode #11, although Episode #12 would be even better if somehow additional staff could be corralled into working on those two episodes. Tate is the closest thing Dragon Ball Super currently has to a action animation specialist, so he ought to be the one to oversee the final stretch of the battle, especially if he could team up with a good director, like Hatano Morio.

I really like Tate's work on One Piece. If he actually gets the time to work on the episode, it'll look good.

Worst case scenario, we get another episode 5. @_@

Would they allow for another animation collapse after the backlash response to episode 5 though, I wonder.

Other than Episode #4 there hasn't been a single good looking episode of the series, so I don't really expect anyone with any real power at Toei Animation to care about the quality of this series. They're already trying to show it off to foreign licensees, there clearly isn't any expectation that the animation needs to be good for the series to make money either at home or abroad. If the idea was for this to be a prestige work it probably wouldn't have begun airing in the climate that Toei Animation is currently mired in.

So it's kind of a "no shame" scenario in that they don't care really how it looks. Unfortunate. Especially since I see what they're capable every week with Precure. Those backdrops in yesterday's episode were beautiful. That creepy vine castle, that ocean at night.

Making a quality project where the staff aren't racing every week to put out even a poor-looking episode simply isn't a priority. Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold Episode #11 had a ton of staff, though the amount of time available was probably very small. Dragon Ball Super would need a similar amount of staff per episode to begin looking better on its current schedule.

All right Chuquita, I need you to tell me who's reponsible for this piece of animation ART from SM Crystal Act 25 and how many goats to we have to sacrifice to get them onto Super?

An entire trip of goats. Multiple trips, probably.

SMC 25 was beautiful, wasn't it? I was in awe watching it the first time.

There is no listing on Sakugabooru for the clips you posted (unless someone posted them under an alternate title).

And so, here's what ANN says about the staff of episode 25. Note: the home release for episode 25 isn't out yet, so this is all I've got for now.

We have:
Storyboard: Munehisa Sakai (who I think has left Toei immediately following Crystal ending)
Episode Director: Nozomu Shishido
Chief Animation Director: Kozue Komatsu
Animation Director: Yoshiyuki Ichikawa
2nd Key Animation: Kozue Hiruma, Masahiro Sasaki, Nomi Rutosawa
Key Animation: Eri Shikita, Kazuhiko Wanibuchi, Keiko Iwata

Episode #25's full staff can be found here. Character Designer Sakou Yukie was one of the animation supervisors for the episode.

Sakai Munehisa has left Toei Animation. He probably did so because of how he was fucked over during production of the series. I wouldn't be surprised if Chioka Kimitoshi does the same after a while.

Whoa that SMC shots are the true definition of ART. Is that nowadays Toei?!

I'm curious to know how they will handle SG Goku vs Beerus fight in Super. I wanted to be even better than BOG movie.
But its hard to top this:
Image

This is my favourite moment in the movie and one of the best fight sequences that a DB movie ever had. Shida is just OP.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

Pffft, they haven't even touched this yet (and yes, it's from an actual episode) much less top that quality.

Even Sailor Moon is getting more love from animators than Dragon Ball right now.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Episode 25 of SMC felt like it tried its hardest to make up for the awfulness that plagued a good chunk of Season 1's animation. It felt like a genuine "We're sorry--especially for Sailor Mars' intro episode we're sorry; here's something amazing to make up for it."

If they could borrow some of the battle-animation staff from Go!Pri, they could really do some cool/fun stuff with Super's version of ssjg Gokû vs Beerus; I don't know if they will though. I feel so doubtful. It all depends how embarrassed (or not?) Toei was after the episode 5 animation collapse.

Sadly, this was literally 1-time spike in quality, right at the end. First story arc up until episode 14 was like Super, some decent episodes, some awful. During the second story arc the animation improved and was more consistient but it was just that 1 time the animation got so good everyone gasped. Quite frankly it was almost distracting as the same episode also had "standard" quality frames right next to the gorgeous stuff I posted.

Image vs Image

It's not that the first one is horrible, but it's a living proof of the difference between decent/passable/acceptable animation most Toei shows have and true animation ART they should all aspire to.

And when SM Crystal went bad, boy did it deliver 100% on awfulness...

The only consolation is that the crappiest parts have been fixed in Blu-Ray edition...

Even so doesn't mean they should feel pride for showing poop to japanese audience. If they aren't embarassed for what they did with Super episode 5, they should.
Seems like it was confirmed that there was a problem with the production and I want to believe in that. They set the bar low with episode 5 and now everytime people see some bad scenes, they just tell "At least, its not as bad as episode 5." That's how bad it was.

You're not looking outside of yourself and at the bigger picture here. Dragon Ball Super Episode #5 isn't going to amount for anything in either the long or short run. The people risking hundreds of thousands of dollars are not even going to notice nor will the majority of the viewers. It's a shame but the episode will bare now ill consequences for anyone involved.

Staff and titles for Episodes #10-13:

Episode #10:
Script: Koyama Makoto; Episode Director: Shishido Jun (might be misreading?); Storyboard: Yashima Yoshitaka; Animation Supervisor: Ishikawa Osamu

Episode #11:
Script: King Ryuu; Episode Director: Iwai Takao; Storyboard: Shida Naotoshi; Animation Supervisor: Tate Naoki

Episode #12:
Script: King Ryuu; Episode Director: Mikami Masato; Storyboard: Komura Toshi'aki; Animation Supervisor: Shimanuki Masahiro

Episode #13:
Script: King Ryuu; Episode Director: Satou Masanori; Storyboard: Yamamuro Tadayoshi; Animation Supervisor: Kitano Yukihiro

Well, Episode #11 should be the one good episode to look forward to. It looks like Yamamuro will storyboard the first episode of the Golden Freeza arc, too. That'll probably look painful.

#10 has the same animation supervisor from #2, and i liked how that episode looked. Shimanuki is sticking around as i expected, and #11 with the Shida/Tate combo should be promising IF Tate had the time now.
I don't know why #13 should 'look painful" based on Yamamuro, unless one hates him to the point of hating his storyboarding, but that's extremely subjective.
In any case, i'm not unhappy seeing him directly involved with an episode for once, outside the OP/ED and designs.

So much time dependent stuff; I think unless things get out of control, these ending of reBOG arc episodes should look good.
