Err, Beerus, Whis, Jaco?
To be honest none of the characters are really interesting, Beerus the god of destruction might sound like a very intimidating name, but for someone who sleeps most of the time and only wakes for the plot or to make annoying jokes about food isn't really interesting. Same goes to Whis whats so interesting about him? Turning back time and reality has been around since atleast 1978 during the first superman movie. And what quotes did Whis say that gave him any real character development? "I'm just a life form who's named Whis" right it didnt!

And what about Jaco? he was never mentioned in the dragon ball manga during its serialization. Do you think care about some crossover character that failed to get any attention back in US?

It's just labeled as "Super Saiyan" (same as with Gohan there), so it's probably just meant to be the same old weird hair color Broli we see in DBZ movie 8. They've got Raditz there without any new gimmick or anything (he's simply labelled "Raditz", for the record), and apparently Broli's the same way. God knows, if it really were supposed to be a new form for Broli they'd most likely hype the shit out of it, rather than just sticking him in there with everyone else.

I completely disagree, I think all three are quite interesting, fun characters.

Just because you didn't read and/or like Jaco the Galactic Patrolman doesn't mean he's a bad character. He's a great character, regardless of how much attention he may or may not have gotten (given the manga was ran in Weekly Shonen Jump in the US, and then got a volume release, I'd say at least a fair number of people read it).

Give me examples. I just can't take your word for it.

Remember people would never just be loyal to people without reason. Imagine that you are walking home, than a criminal stop next to you holding a gun. Are you going to be loyal to him? You would follow what he tell you when he has that gun to your head but I doubt that you would suddenly give your life to protect him from the cops.
I think you are both are assuming the good things done to these people to make them loyal was just Freeza treating them well... But it is heavily implied that they're working for a lucrative organization. They sell planets. They're most likely all very wealthy under Freeza's direction and when he isn't around get to be very powerful figures.

Those like Ginyu were so powerful and rarely if ever messed up that Freeza actually did like them (he trusted them above all others to get the job done because they get results and a person in charge likes someone they can rely on) and probably was nice to them because of this. So for the most part they were likely treated well too but also made wealthy and powerful through Freeza.

Freeza was a lot of things, but most of all he managed to get this huge organization to run and be profitable and be feared. So most likely he has followers that are loyal because of that. Which is why they would want him back.

Most of this sounds like denial. "The movie's not what I expected, so Toriyama must have been forced to put in stuff he didn't want".

Battle of Gods was not what I expected but it showed much less forced the plot.

Here seems to have wanted to join the commercial, Freezzer, with the history of the gods and the training of goku and vegeta, the end is that Frieza returning as a sparring

I must admit that I've been having similar thoughts as well, lately. I think, for me at least, it more boils down to the fact that this film seems to fall more in line with what a lot of fans see as the traditional DBZ movie formula, as opposed to what we saw with BOG. Although it did follow the traditional structure somewhat, I think it was different enough to alter fan's expectations for further outings. Although I guess you could say that is pretty much the same thing as the movie not being what I expected. But I have to imagine that Toei had at least some sort of input into what happened in the film. They obviously had to approve of the script before production began.

I don't wanna start any wild speculation here, but I have wondered about how Toei felt towards the ending of BOG. There's way too little information to be making suggestions or speculating that BOG's ending would've had any impact on how this movie played out, but I am curious. More about the writing process in general than anything else. Did Toriyama have a professional script writer helping him with stuff like formatting his ideas into a proper screenplay, or was the man able to manage that himself? Did Yusuke Watanabe play a similar role last time out? Hopefully Volume F reveals more in the coming weeks.

They're most likely all very wealthy under Freeza's direction and when he isn't around get to be very powerful figures.
FnF manga states that they revived Frieza because they couldn't manage organisation themselves and thought that it was his iron fist that held everything together. While Tagoma is a bit unsure about that, Sorbet acts as a kind of Frieza's promoted fanboy who clearly has no idea about Frieza's short temper and tendencies to blow his underlings away. That makes sense, since he used to be quite low in ranks and probably never interacted with his boss personally. He fully expected to have responsibility being taken away and being rewarded. I'd say that this makes perfect sense.

More Bulma blog catch-up: 21, 20, & 19 Days Left.

Shoko "Oracle Fish" Nakagawa:
Just 21 days until the premiere!
Today we’ve got a comment from Shōko Nakagawa, voice of the Oracle Fish!

Getting to breathe life into a Dragon Ball character again after the last film, and being able to inhabit the same world as them, was totally unbelievable. Right after recording wrapped up, it was like I was walking in a dream. But as more time passes, it all starts to feel real: I’m thrilled that this “Oracle Fish” character really does inhabit this universe, and I really did get to take part in this historic movie. I got to experience being in the same scene as Goku and Vegeta, which I missed out on last film. I got hyped up just at the thought of breathing in the same carbon dioxide Vegeta exhaled, so it was really tough synching myself up with someone as laid back as the Oracle Fish.

Plus, the fact that Freeza’s coming back to life is definitely good news; he may be a bad guy, but everyone adores him. There have been loads of exciting battles throughout all the manga and anime mankind has produced throughout history, but in my life the two lines which filled me with the most despair were Freeza’s “My battle power is 530,000” and “I still have two more transformations left”. At first I was terrified of him, yet somehow he’s a character you just can’t quite hate. When I see the sparkle in boys’ eyes as they talk about the Freeza story arc, I’m amazed that something could make them so happy and excited.

Like in the last film, I get the feeling that Vegeta’s becoming more laid-back and cheerful, so it’ll be fun to see what he’s like this time around (laughs). Since Toriyama-sensei wrote the script himself this time, I think it’s packed with character dialogue and other stuff that make you go “Yes! These are the characters!” Just like the last film, this one’s got both familiar faces and unexpected ones; each and every line might go down in universal history, so you’d better pay attention to them all
Jaco stops by and...does...stuff...
Bulma: Hey, Bulma here!
Just 20 days until the premiere!
Today…Oh hey, Jaco. So, you’ve come too?

Jaco: What do you mean, “you”?! I’m a super elite galactic patrolman! Is that any way to talk to me?! I came to tell you that the Earth’s in peril!

Bulma: Well, since you know Freeza’s back, can’t you get rid of him?

Jaco: I cannot get involved in such affairs. Right then, I’m outta here.

Bulma: H-Hang on a minute! I thought you said you were a super-elite galactic patrolman! Where’s your pride?!

Jaco: It’s true. I am a proud super-elite.

Bulma: Then how about you lend us a hand?

Jaco: ……My mission is to protect the peace of the galaxy, so I’ve got no choice but to turn a blind eye to Freeza. Forget it.

Bulma: How can I?! Hey, where are you going?!

Jaco: Farewell!

It's true that many soldiers in Freeza's army probably weren't just slaves and that they got riches from it and that with the organization in trouble, the profits decrease. However, that's not something that only Freeza could do and I don't imagine Freeza being really generous with the riches he lets his soldiers have. It's more a case of him not wanting everything little thing for himself so he lets them have some spoils of their conquest.

So, them wanting Freeza back, continues to be due to his power, not his extraordinary generosity.
