English Dragon Box Release
Smooth Criminal went about it in a rude way, but he had a few good points.
Dub fans who dislike the Season sets ARE in a minority.
My 3 Cousins prefer the Dub, and I have a few friends who ALSO prefer the dub.
Most of them didn't care, and ONE of them asked me what the "Dragon Box" was after I made my status on MSN "DRAGON BOX IN AMERICA!!" and when I told her it was a re-release of DBZ but in the Proper 4:3 aspect ratio remastered in Japan, her reply was "Fullscreen?! Why the hell would anyone want that?! TVs are Widescreen now!! Widescreen is so much better."
I shit you not, I got that response.
She's probably the one who's gonna buy my season sets!!
And my cousin actually PREFERS the Dub with Japanese Music, he thinks it sounds much better with an orchestral score.
So, I know it sucks for some dub fans, but for many others it's either a non-issue or it's better this way.
Unfortunately, This release Could NOT happen without pissing SOMEONE off!
Either:
A: Include the Broadcast Audio Track - The Dub-Fans who liked the Japanese Music they saw them on the Season sets will be upset.
B: Include the Japanese Music Audio Track - Piss off Faulconer Fans
C: Include Both - Piss off everybody worried about the Encoding quality o the sets.
And as for jjgp1112, well, I'm sorry but you're in a Minority OF A Minority.
You want the Japanese Audio for the first 2 seasons, and the Broadcast Audio from Season 3 on.
If they had announced we were getting the Broadcast Audio only, you'd then be upset you had to watch the Season 1-2 Score because it's not Faulconer.
Now, you said that you prefer the Japanese Music for Seasons 1 and 2. Well, if you like it enough to watch it for those seasons, then Why is it not good enough for the whole series?
That Audio track is the Most logical choice. When they made the Season sets, they already mixed that one in 5.1 surround sound. The Broadcast track isn't, so they would have to either put a 2.0 Stereo track on the set, which is something they just don't do anymore. They ALWAYS Provide a 5.1 Track on ALL of their shows nowadays. Or they would have to Remix the Broadcast Audio in 5.1, which is a lot of work they don't have to do, since they already did it with the Japanese Music Track. So That one, the one that's already Mixed in 5.1 and ready is the logical choice.
And There, I've said it all... wow this post got longer than I wanted it to be...

I really don't know why every damn release has to agitate someone, though. It truly sickens me that whenever an announcement is made, battle lines are drawn.

I think you're over exaggerating a little. Sure we all argue but it's mostly for entertainment. Nobody here is hateful to one another. One thread might become a battle of epic proportions. But the in another, you'll find the same members picking flowers and holding hands. Besides, once we find out more information it'll all be done.Saiyavenger2941 wrote:I really don't know why every damn release has to agitate someone, though. Whaa whenever i'm away something uber big hits and I miss the news! I have been out for a few weeks on a surf trip and just returned. - Maybe I should go away some more...
It's like Funimation have just waited until I need just Dragonball GT season 2 until they release this.
Why, Why, Why!!!
Still... I can forgive them - Heck I'm going to worship them if they don't do something stupid and screw them up. (And they make them multi-regional like the previous brick boxes.) I'm hoping the retail price won't be too stupidly extortinate to cash in on hyped up happy fans. Would anybody consider me mad if I keep all my orange bricks as well as getting the dragonbox set?
As much as I hate to admit, the bricks look so damn hot on my shelf.

Well, MSRP is $80 USD. If you get it at Amazon or someplace like that it'll likely be cheaper. Maybe something more like $60 when it first comes out, $50 when it's been out for a little while, and $40 for the first one when 3 or 4 boxes have been released.
Of course, I'm just guessing based upon the discounts I see with Dragonball DVDs with an MSRP of $50 and dropping the same percentage that they're dropped.

They'll retail at £50 each, and look like GOD next to the Orange Bricks.saiyanprincess wrote:I'm hoping the retail price won't be too stupidly extortinate to cash in on hyped up happy fans. Would anybody consider me mad if I keep all my orange bricks as well as getting the dragonbox set?

And I'm keeping the Orange Bricks too, it's an interesting release with two Dub scores and a little extra picture on the edges we may never see again.
Interesting what FUNi is saying on Twitter now...they "just got the license", and aren't sure yet how they're going to handle the inclusion of the English dub.
Yet at the initial announcement, they were quite adamant in that they hadn't changed a damn thing. If they just got the license, and haven't finalized anything yet, then how do they know?
Actually, it should've been obvious they'd just gotten the license, since immediately after the announcement, Steve Simmons announced he'd just started subbing the next episode previews.

Well, they obviously had some kind of idea as to what they wanted before getting the license. Packaging, default language, not messing with the picture quality, and some other obvious stuff that they were thinking up while negotiating the rights to this release.G1Ravage wrote:Interesting what FUNi is saying on Twitter now...they "just got the license", and aren't sure yet how they're going to handle the inclusion of the English dub.

Hopefully, once they figure more out, we'll get another trailer that isn't so, "We're premiering this at a con so we're gonna be crazy about it," as the one they have now. I have no problem with Chris Sabat doing the trailers in-character, but something a bit more subdued would be nice to see before the November release.

Oh well, the quality will still be superior to the orange bricks indefinitely.
I certainly hope you were joking. The lack-of-smiley and how tired I am leads me to question it, though...

I'm pretty sure they were referring to the DBOX footage...

Only if they drop below $50, will I even consider selling off my Season sets for the Boxes. Otherwise, I'm satisfied with what I've got.Kendamu wrote:Well, MSRP is $80 USD. I DO NOT LIKE THE JAPANESE MUSIC IN THE BUU SAGA
There. Now I don't want anybody saying "If you can watch it with the Japanese music for the first two Seasons, why not watch it like that for the rest of show" to me again.

How do you guys keep up with this thread? It moves multiple pages each day and all of it is speculation. I can handle that if it's three pages a day, but this is ridiculous.
From what I have read in this thread there may be a chance of the Dragon Box not including a english language audio track. if this is the case then I will not be buying this. Yeah, I have the season sets but if this is supposed to be much better quality product than that then I was going to pick it up and keep the season sets. If at some point I would sell my season sets, it would be when it started getting close to the release of the final Dragon Box.
It makes no sense to release a product in an area with no option to release an audio track in that language. It may be done in some places outside of the US but if a person here bought it from a retailer not knowing, they would return it thinking that it was defective.
As for the dub's BGM being included, I can see them possibly omitting it. That's much less of an offense than simply not having an english audio track in a english language market. I do like to listen to the english dialog over japanese music setting. That my primary way of watching the season sets. I have switched it for certain parts that stick out in my memory but only for those specific scenes.
Someone posted a question of why would a "casual" Dragonball Z not have already purchased the season sets when those were new and be trying to get the Dragon Box. The first reason that popped in my head was that they didn't have the funds available at the time to buy them. Maybe they didn't even know that they were being released. To us, any Dragon Ball release gets atleast a nine on our awareness scale. It may have made a four or five in the overall anime world being that virtually all anime was being released in box sets. And at most a three or even two to everyone else. With this Dragon Box release I would add a half a point or a full point to the normal consumers and two or three points everywhere else.
Soon there will be two Dragonball Z products on the market (mostly, cuz I can only seem to find at most three or four season at any one retailer at a time and it's usually the later seasons). I will liken the season sets to a standard dvd release and the Dragon Box to a Bluray release with added features(in this analogue everyone has a bluray player). The uninformed will ask what the difference is, and the hopefully only reply would be that the more expensive one have better picture quality and a lot of extras. If we also have to explain that the more expensive one does not have a english langauge option, then that's pretty much a lost sale there.
And we all want this to sell well, right? For Dragon Ball and Dragonball GT to get a Dragon Box release?

Any and all genuine "news" is reported on our home page. The thread is essentially speculation upon speculation upon general discussion. False. It has been stated that the sets will default to the Japanese language track. This clearly implies there will be a dub included on there. Right now there is no set word on which dub that will be.Anonymous Friend wrote:From what I have read in this thread there may be a chance of the Dragon Box not including a english language audio track. if this is the case then I will not be buying this.
Most of the discussion in this thread has been about the pros/cons of including/not-including different audio tracks based on available disc space, marketing, etc.
