I think it was since WWII the US has been the "global police" in it's own eyes.

I remember in High School my Government Teacher was pissed at the Iraqi citizens for fighting back against us (I live in the US) and not letting us invade "peacefully". He couldn't understand why they wouldn't let us "help" them, and called them fools... He was also mad that Obama "wanted to end the Iraq war" (which the deadline for our withdrawal was set under Bush's term anyway. Obama wanted to stay in longer despite what many of his supporters will tell you).

Also, a few days ago the US extradited UK citizen Richard O'Dwyer for breaking US copyright laws... outside of the US.

I still haven't heard this on any news network. The British government is apparently upset about this too, and stated that the US broke their end of the treaty and misused their power of extradition.

Why isn't that getting any coverage? If they wanted those powers with SOPA, and couldn't do it without, then why do they need SOPA in the first place? Same goes for MegaUpload, and speaking of which, the guy in the previously posted video is definitely over-exaggerating, but I would not be surprised at all if there were at least several arrests of people who had downloaded/uploaded on that site.

Folks need to stop worrying about it. The courts would be backed up for years trying to prosecute anyone & everyone who downloaded from MegaUpload. The Main reason why MegaUpload was shut down was because it was charging people with a Premium account to download the Pirated content at a faster rate. Think about it, Lets say that the Government said ''Okay were going to pull in 25% of all MegaUpload users and charge them a fine of 150thousand dollars'' Now I'm pretty sure no-one can pull out that kinda money at once. So they say ''Fine We're lowering the price'' but you can't pay that either, ''Okay Jail time'' Do people really believe the Government will start imprisoning folks like us just because we downloaded some Anime? No. The prisons would start over flowing. They're looking for the Big people who upload terror-bytes after terror-bytes of Pirated content.

This is full of complete bull***. This is a ploy merely to attract attention to his videos.

Realize that no government has the man-power, the will or the time to prosecute every single person who used a site like Megaupload. Think about the logistics of such an operation, and common sense will tell you that it's simply not feasible.

They are only looking to prosecute the people at the top of these sites, as they are simply attempting to stop the piracy at the source.

Precisely. Also how are they making an example out of him by bringing him here? If anything I believe they are using him as a fear tactic to show up-loaders and downloaders ''look if you do that this is what will happen'' I believe there is more to this story than what's being discussed

Just consider the Gary McKinnon case and how much hassle it took for America to prosecute him and still haven't fully succeeded. But you can still visit the sites from outside the US. The same way YouTube bans access to certain videos in regions and allows in others.
