DragonBall Kai: Saiya-jin Raishû (Attack of the Saiyans)

Don't care for the recycled ShenLong music, but I love that Budoten track - no wonder he might re use some of its elements.

Anyone here gonna get the US version of this? I'm pretty excited for it myself. I sampled the Japanese version of the game on an emulator and it seems like fun! I think that they're keeping the Japanese voices for the game, too!
Looks like it comes out tomorrow and my local GameStop is going to have it! Woohoo! I just might go grab it tomorrow!

I'll definitely be picking it up and giving it a review. It's about darn time we finally get the game...

I'm looking forward to your review! This game will probably be my "breath of fresh air" from the Dragonball fighting games in the way that Tenka'ichi Daibouken was for you and Meri.VegettoEX wrote:I'll definitely be picking it up and giving it a review. It's a much better RPG than Tenkaichi Dai-Bouken is a platformer, in my opinion.

Those of you who have played it, would you say it's worth $30+? In other words, is it legitimately good, or good in a "Hey, better than I expected from a Dragon Ball turn based rpg" kind of way? If the former, looks like I have something to play this winter besides Spirit Tracks until they announce when Golden Sun DS is going to come out...
Not a problem.

That is word for word how I feel about this game. It's the kind of Dragon Ball game I've always wanted but never really got. Getting it as soon as possible tomorrow!Kendamu wrote: I'm looking forward to your review! I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Hmmm...well, it was fun, but a good portion of its appeal does derive from all the little cameos and easter eggs that only a DB fan would enjoy. It's also somewhat short; not Legacy of Goku short, but it's no Final Fantasy game either. The sprite animations are all great, and probably my favorite part of the game. There are also lots of different kinds of enemies, and they all look very nice, but they're not spread out as well as they could be. At the beginning of the game, each area is full of new enemies, and then about halfway through they just seem to run out, and from then on you only get color-swaps of old enemies until the Saibaimen show up (at which point all the random enemies become Saibaimen color-swaps).FuniYamcha wrote:Those of you who have played it, would you say it's worth $30+? I liked the level-up system: in addition to the stats increases you get each level, every time you win a fight you get AP points, which can be spent to level up any of your techniques, or to give you special stat bonuses. So you have a good deal of flexibility in how you raise each character. The different characters are also pretty unique in their natural strengths and weaknesses. Yamcha is very fast, for instance, and his attacks tend to be ones that hit a lot of times, which has advantages in certain situations. Tenshinhan is geared more towards technique, while Kuririn has high luck. Gohan starts at extremely weak, with low stat gains each level, but eventually his stats start improving drastically, and his techniques are all really powerful once you level them up all the way. Meanwhile, Goku is just all-around awesome, but to sort of make up for it you usually play as him alone, without another character to back you up.
There are a lot of things you can do after reaching the end, like fighting the secret boss, making the other wishes on the pseudo-dragonballs, and capturing every kind of enemy, though they can get a bit tedious. There's no particulary great reward for catching all the enemies, for instance, and collecting the dragonballs over and over again eventually gets old. Though you really only have to collect them 3-4 times to get everything, some wishes you can make any number of times, and the easiest way to max out your characters' stats is to wish for lots of AP and EXP points over and over again.
So...I don't know if it's worth over $30. I had lots of fun while I was playing it, but after finishing the main game and beating the secret boss I didn't really go back to it again.

This doesn't mean we get to play as Chi-Chi. Sorry.Rocketman wrote:The 23rd Budokai gets into a game?! Purchase secured!Kendamu wrote:The game is supposed to start right before the 23rd Budoukai right?

I didn't say we don't. I just meant it doesn't guarantee it. She's been shunned before where she easily fits, so who knows?
