Yup, that's the only thing I really dislike about the Dragon Boxes. I'd rather have Faulconer's music since I (mostly) don't give a crap about the dub without it.jjgp1112 wrote:Y'know, I was watching the last few episodes on this yesterday, and it really does suck not being able to switch over to the dub music given the quality I was now watching it in. I kinda wish the Dub music was in it, just for memories.
But I guess I'll just keep my singles for that.

I'm glad Funimation has phased out that abominable Casio "music", but I'm guessing that the dub seems a little off without it. I mean, if you're a fan of the Japanese version, you aren't going to watch the dub, because it's innacurate. And if you're a fan of the dub, you're probably used to the dub music. So who is that dub track with the Japanese music for, exactly?
Still, Funimation is taking a step forward by ridding themselves of that stuff.

Yeah, my thought is it must be for new fans and to pimp out on their demo reel: "See, we didn't screw up DBZ that bad! We kept the original music in at least!"

I was listening on the dub and had the subs on and good lord!!!! The English dub is no where even close to the original script!! What a horrible dub DBZ had.
Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion
It's not because it sounds off to me...I just don't enjoy it substantially less. During scenes like when Frieza and Vegeta were at a stand off, or when Gohan snapped when Frieza got impaled, I wanted so badly to watch those scenes with the dub music because of how well done those scenes were in comparison to the Japanese version. The Frieza saga was pretty much the beginning of the slow decline of the Japanese score, finally hitting the "suck" point around the Buu saga or so.penguintruth wrote:I'm glad Funimation has phased out that abominable Casio "music", but I'm guessing that the dub seems a little off without it. You could always just whip out a Yamaha keyboard from the 1980's and hit the 'Demo' button. ;pjjgp1112 wrote:It's not because it sounds off to me...I just don't enjoy it substantially less. If I still had my Yamaha, I could have composed DBZ instead of Faulconer.MajinVejitaXV wrote:You could always just whip out a Yamaha keyboard from the 1980's and hit the 'Demo' button. ;pjjgp1112 wrote:It's not because it sounds off to me...I just don't enjoy it substantially less. You would think that with all that effort they could produce something that didn't sound like the music bed for a monster truck rally commercial.

I don't see how you could possibly associate the music in the Faulconer score with that outside a couple of themes from the Android saga that were rarely used. Most of his songs remind me of music from Capcom Games in the early 90s but less MIDI-ish.penguintruth wrote:You would think that with all that effort they could produce something that didn't sound like the music bed for a monster truck rally commercial.

I still think it is strange/illogical that they threw out the dub music which a lot of people love/like, and replace it with some kind of hybrid instead.
They should have gone with the only logical audio options:
*jap voices and music
*dub voices and music
why was the dub voices+japanese music soundtrack even made in the first place:?:
what were they thinking?

That was just the current FUNimation at work. Nowadays FUNi always keeps the original score.DMaarten wrote:why was the dub voices+japanese music soundtrack even made in the first place:?:

Overall, I think it's good thing that they made the English/Japanese music track. The season sets had both dub tracks but with Japanese music as the default. That worked out great for those sets because newcomers would automatically get the original music and Faulconer fans could switch if they wanted to.

I got my Dragon Box today! It's amazing. The DVD's and Book look a lot more even which is really good, with my first Dbox the book sticks out a bit.
I remember someone saying that there was quite a bit of yellow at the edge of the box, but it looks fine on mine!
Thank you AxelMusic! Cant wait to watch it.
