Marsters has made comments like, "he becomes a hero later on but that's a whole 'nother story," though I can't remember the details and I'm not sure if he was specifically referencing Movie-Piccolo.

I've mentioned it before, but I get the vibe that they're combining Kami, Daimao, and Junior into one single character, and as we see him in this movie he's at his "Daimao" stage. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That's pretty much the case, yeah.

He's thousands of years old and a very long time ago he used to be a force of good but got into a bad argument and was put into prison for 2,000 years. It got him very angry, and he finds a way to escape and then tries to destroy the world. The cool thing is, anybody who has seen Dragonball knows that Lord Piccolo transforms into a character named Piccolo, and that is a whole other ball of wax. That is one of the most popular characters in the whole series. I've been told I'm working for people who will just flay me alive if I give too much information, but what I can tell you is the character is green, bald and has pointed ears. Heroic wouldn't be the wrong term by the end, but it's a long journey.

Like you said there are basically three stages to Movie Piccolo's character. Since they're probably not doing the 'split form Kami' thing, Movie Piccolo will have originally been a peaceful Namekian (like Kami) until he became corrupt and decided to attack Earth. Then you have the rest of the story- he gets locked away, acts evil in DBE, and will later turn back to good in the Z sequels.

There's supposed to be a parallel here about Piccolo, who was once good but now seeks to destroy the Earth, and Goku, who was sent to destroy the Earth as a Saiyan but intends instead to save it.

So Goku looks like he's aiming that Kamehameha upward. Kinda reminds me of that big one he made against Vegeta.

And possibly had a hand in creating the DragonBalls, or inspired them somehow?

This crossed my mind as well (and it does make a lot of sense), but let's remember a few things.

1. The six men shown in the trailer are most likely NOT the mystics Roshi was talking about. These guys are Mutaito and his men working on Piccolo's jar-- I highly doubt they created the Dragonballs as well. This was likely another case of Fox matching an image to trailer dialogue that doesn't quite fit the actual story.

2.

[LORD PICCOLO] An ancient being who despite his humanoid appearance, is from an alien race determined to take over the world. Piccolo is the cursed ruler of a demonic race who nearly destroyed Earth 2000 years ago, and with the coming of the eclipse and the possession of all seven Dragon Balls, he's prepared to free himself and do the job right this time. Crafty and smart, Piccolo has some disturbing news for Goku, namely that the boy is actually a Saiyan who's destined to join Piccolo as his right hand in destroying and enslaving the planet...LEAD

The casting bio implies that Piccolo led a band of like-minded Namekians in his assault. Granted, the casting bios didn't try very hard to be exact on the details, like describing Gohan's dragonball as a three-star ball. So who knows.

That said I do think they'll eventually retcon the Mystics thing, somehow. I'm interested in how the Piccolo-Saiyan thing plays out.

Same here. They're introducing Saiyans early on, and I'm curious how it will work out.

I don't know. If the dragonballs are to protect the Earth or whatever, it would make sense for them to be made by the same people who sealed up Piccolo.

There was that one filler episode of Dragon Ball where Roshi explained (falsely) the origins of the Dragon Balls. Y'know, the one where he said that all seven came from one ball.

Maybe there is actually another Dragonball Legend. Maybe there are two sets of Dragonballs

I think the Origin of the Dragon Balls Roshi hears about will end up being wrong and Piccolo will reveal that he was the one that made them or someone else from his race. Plot twist and all that....

OK ... just read through all fourteen pages (while listening to the SSF2THDR album) ... I can't access IGN to see the trailer because of the work computers ... but how do they pronounce the Kamehameha?
