It's pretentious in the way he said it and described it. Yes, you should make a role your own, but the way Schemmel was talking was making him sound like he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. It sounded like what some fanboy on YouTube would write about Schemmel. Did you hear it? Like, not being rude. It sounds pretentious. Like I said, even my cousin, who hardly knows the series, but saw the movie with me thought he sounded full of himself.Mewzard wrote:What's pretentious about that? An actor should try and make the role their own over being some cheap mimic of someone else. It'd be like if every actor who played Batman in some form or another tried to mimic Adam West (or Hell, even if they mimicked a serious one for a serious role, you'd never give a damn about the specific actors). It just wouldn't stand as well as an actor doing their damnedest to make something unique, yet good and fitting for the role. Sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it does. And Schemmel's Goku is one of the times I feel it did work (though it took a few years to refine into something great).ShadowDude112 wrote:So, I assume you all remember the pre-show. Remember when Sean Schemmel was talking about how he had to study the Canadian cast when he started? He goes on how when the SSJ transformation happened and then he states how he "transformed" and made Goku his own and was done mimicking the Canadian cast? That came off as really pretentious to me. I even asked my cousin who saw it with me who doesn't like Dragon Ball all that much and has no opinion on the voices, and even he said that sounded really pretentious and full of himself. The only thing my cousin had to say on the voices is that he likes Masako Nozawa more than Schemmel. The only place he's heard Nozawa was in J-Stars Victory Vs. + on the PS4. He said that Schemmel was good, and not bad, but he liked Nozawa more. I was surprised since I'd assumed he liked Schemmel more.
Hell, his evolution in the role of Goku has been a good thing. The first step was stepping into his own as an actor. Everyone's gotta start somewhere.

So is the line in the English version about Freeza being in "Earth's Hell" in the Japanese version, or is that a fuck up on Funi's part?
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
1) Yes.ArchedThunder wrote:So is the line in the English version about Freeza being in "Earth's Hell" in the Japanese version, or is that a fuck up on Funi's part?
2) No, Funi has been pretty accurate, when it comes to these contentious issues in the newer stuff(and it's funny how the line falls in line with the funi dub of the episode, where the gang fret over how to revive Krillin after Namek blew up).

Alright, I just didn't hear anyone talking about Freeza being specifically in Earth's Hell until seeing the dub, I just assumed Funi messed up.dbgtFO wrote:1) Yes.ArchedThunder wrote:So is the line in the English version about Freeza being in "Earth's Hell" in the Japanese version, or is that a fuck up on Funi's part?

Ugh, really? Here I thought that was something FUNi screwed up too. Why in the world does earth have its own hell? And, yeah, that's exactly what I thought when I heard the line too. It very much reminded me of "Earth's Check-In Station" that FUNi made up back in '99.
I guess it doesn't technically contradict anything, but it just seems odd that all people of all planets go to the exact same place to be judged... and then they're sorted back into their respective planets for the afterlife? That just seems... stupid. But I'll get over it. Not a huge deal... just irksome and makes me think that Toriyama and the powers that be weren't really paying much attention. And that's why it does irk me. I can forgive a mistake, but I much prefer continuity to be made on purpose, not because, "Ooops. I legitimately thought it was that way all along. I guess I wasn't paying attention. Too late now." And while it's just a complete guess on my part, it just feels like the latter.

What gets me is that Freeza acts as if he'll be in the clear if he destroys Earth and Earth's Hell, even though the phrase "Earth's Hell" implies other places have their own Hell too. Shouldn't Freeza still be worried about dying and going to some other planet's Hell, even if Earth's Hell is gone? Does Planet Freeza No.79 have a really nice Hell or something?
That's the other thing: Freeza comes back to life, and talks a lot about how much being dead sucked, but he never mentions anything about wishing for immortality, even though that was supposedly his big desire back in Freeza arc.

I'd imagine that if Freeza DID win against Goku and Vegeta, then subjugating Earth and its Dragon Balls would probably be his next objective. But it was no longer an option once he got his ass kicked and blowing up the whole planet was his only way out alive.

As long as we're on the subject, that reminds me of something too. There was a big deal made in the Saiyan and Freeza arcs about characters coming back to life where they died. So why in the world are Freeza's remains just conveniently dropped out of the sky? It would have been just as simple if Sorbet had gathered them together first. Eh. I'm kinda late to the bandwagon, though, so I'm sure I'm not the first person to mention that.

Freeza was sliced up and then incinerated mid-air, naturally they would appear in the sky and fall to the ground due to gravity, were he to be revived.Gaffer Tape wrote:Haha, very good point.Herms wrote:What gets me is that Freeza acts as if he'll be in the clear if he destroys Earth and Earth's Hell, even though the phrase "Earth's Hell" implies other places have their own Hell too. Speaking of blowing Earth up, Whis and Beerus are with everyone in Whis's barrier so does this imply that Beerus and Whis can't survive like Freeza can?Kaboom wrote:I'd imagine that if he DID win against Goku and Vegeta, then subjugating Earth and its Dragon Balls would probably be his next objective. I suppose they could have done that to protect the others rather then themselves.

They can most likely survive in-space just fine as seen in Super where they're observing the dinosaur meat planet explode far off in the distance. The others can't so that's why Whis put up the barrier.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Speaking of blowing Earth up, Whis and Beerus are with everyone in Whis's barrier so does this imply that Beerus and Whis can't survive like Freeza can?Kaboom wrote:I'd imagine that if he DID win against Goku and Vegeta, then subjugating Earth and its Dragon Balls would probably be his next objective. When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Not to mention when they stop mid-flight to chat (also in Super) in deep space.ekrolo2 wrote:They can most likely survive in-space just fine as seen in Super where they're observing the dinosaur meat planet explode far off in the distance. I'd imagine that in Beerus and Whis' case, it's more of a shield against Freeza's actual attack. Obviously it wouldn't kill them especially now he's weakened so much (and especially since they're not off-guard

Maybe Freeza assumes that other planets won't have the cutesy nightmare Hell he went through.

Listings starting to appear for FUNi's Resurrection "F" for October. DVD, a BD/DVD combo pack and a Collector's Edition. I wonder what the CE is, FUNi do put out some nice CE's.

Hmm I like that cover! Shame it is Region A only means I will probably end up buying the Japanese, MangaUK and now FUNi's one too, I haven't even seen the film yet!
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
The US and Japan share Blu Ray regions, so you don't really need both unless you're impatient to get it as soon as it releases, but also want the dub later.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Hmm I like that cover! ROF doesn't have an extended edition as far as I know. And besides, it would be pointless for ROF to have and extended edition at this stage considering that Super is gonna retell, and most likely expand, the story.OWmyDragonBallz wrote:Does Revival of F have an extended edition or will it have one like Battle of Gods did?

$50 for the special edition? I hate having to pay more money to just to get the better bonus features.
