I agree. Super has done great stuff before this too. Too many people seem to forget that whenever an episode blows past expectations.Hit!! wrote:Guys, i think we're underrating the fight scenes that happened before Shida's cut in Ep 57. They were incredibly good and dynamic too, better than anything we've seen before, even Goku vs Hit. If Shida's cut wasn't there, we'd be praising them too.
Also that little fight Trunks had with Zamasu after he regenerated was also very cool. Every fight scene in this episode was incredible. Shida's was just out of this world. I won't even talk now, because last time i said "we will never see better animation than this in Super ever again" was during the fight between Vegeta and Cabba, in the U6 arc, and i was proved wrong again and again, it was crazy. Now with this cut form Shida, i believe Super is capable of anything, especially if Super keeps benefiting from the episode breaks.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Totally agree. It's very exciting to see Super surpassing its own achievements from one episode to another. Shida just blew the roof off and broke the barrier of sound, but there are so many good fights in terms of coreography and animation that I'm very pleased. Of course I want more, but that's all Tate and Shida's fault.Hit!! wrote:Guys, i think we're underrating the fight scenes that happened before Shida's cut in Ep 57. Oh yeah I agree every fight scene this episode good and the choreography made little use of repeated frames, I really wasn't expecting anything to be eye catching other then Shida's cut. The fights this episode are already better than good portion of the fights in Z, and on par with most shounen anime, Super still has some ways to go. Before getting to where, we should have been, but if Toei can just continue on bettering the schedule, we will see even greater choreography than what we saw in this episode. I really feel like if Super had the proper preproduction time, the fights would really be out of this world.

Just feels like it. We've started getting answers and a brunt of them will be answered next week it seems with the peak of present Zamasu's development, Beerus & Whis saying they have an idea who Black is. Plus the fact that Goku said he's itching to go back to the future. Unless they faff around in the present again and do some extra training or whatever I can see this arc wrapping up in the near future.PMD wrote:And you said that because......?Baggie_Saiyan wrote:It seems we're getting to the endgame of the arc.
Right now I can't see how they could strech this out that much longer without unnecessary padding.

Even if they find out the origin of Black tons of stuff can still happen Zamasu mentioned something about a utopia last episode, and there's still a lot of stuff we don't know about. Like what happened Gowasu and why is Zamasu is in Universe 7, and there could be some unexpected plot twist to make the arc even longer.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Just feels like it. I was thinking that too. Looked like something straight out of ZArchedThunder wrote:Any idea who did the nice looking shots like this in the first half?

Could it have been Karasawa chaning his style? It feels pretty Z compared to most of Super.

Even shida didn't use loose animation to make goku spin.
Higashide, Shida and the guys who worked in trunks special, all of them reinforces the idea that loose animation doesn't fit in dragon ball, that thing tate did in frieza fight was completely out of place

Anyone have a picture of Goku and Trunks side by side?

I completely agree. It has to do with consistency. There's no doubt that Tate is an incredibly talented animator, but his animation style is simply inconsistent with what we historically expect to see out of Dragon Ball. Even in Super, his cuts distract and stick out like a sore thumb. Shida's cut this week is exactly what good animation should look like in modern Dragon Ball.cuartas wrote:Even shida didn't use loose animation to make goku spin.

Another good example of quality Dragon Ball animation that's consistent with the franchise's art direction that immediately comes to mind is Higashide's Future Trunks vs Black in Episode 48, though that cut is obviously less ambitious.

Couldn't disagree with above posts more on Tate. I'm thrilled to see that kind of looser animation finally come to Dragon Ball. Its emphasis on motion is obvious even in still shots. One of the true few highlights of the series.
Shida's stuff is phenomenal, but not a realistic model for the series.

Well my questions is.....Is the schedule finally fine? The animation was amazing this week. Does that mean that finally it is assured that we won't see stuff like episode 5?

All that can easily be waved in one sentence like the Beerus being dead in the future timeline. Sure an unexpected twist will make it longer but I feel like this arc doesn't need it. Toriyama talked about how the battle will involve Beerus, Kioshin and Omniking. Beerus and Kioshin get involved next episode we know that, unless Toriyama talking about the bit where Omniking wanted a friend then we should expect him soon too.SaiyanGod117 wrote:Even if they find out the origin of Black tons of stuff can still happen Zamasu mentioned something about a utopia last episode, and there's still a lot of stuff we don't know about. I just don't want them to unnecessarily drag this arc out we already had a lull in the arc when Black got transported back we really don't need something similar happening when it takes 5 episodes for things to progress and get interesting. If this arc has 4-5 episodes left that would be perfect.

Some great details and techniques in the first half of the episode! This is what I want to see. Now if only the colors/some character models were better...
Even with that, this was some of the best material in the whole franchise, purely animation wise.

You are totally right. In general Tate is a good animator but I doubt that he is proud for his work on golden arc. I see people praising that scene but I never understood why. The art is terrible. Yes it's lively but Tate has produced much better work in Op and in Super. Even the scene with Goku and Vegeta training looks better
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #57]
To my understanding, it's more the issue with time than it is budget. I believe the pre-production is healthier now than before, but hiring the appropriate staff and directors also does wonders for the final product. As for live action films, that's a wildcard with many considerations to account for. I'm not even sure where to start there.dougo13 wrote:I sometimes wonder what kind of work we could get out of these animators if they had real money to play with? Say, $100 Million USD for a theatrical film. On par with Miyazaki's work? Or do they not have anything viable enough to market? I'm hoping with Legendary now having Chinese backers with deep pockets we'll eventually start seeing Manga like DB/Z and One Piece get a proper live action film. Crossing my fingers...
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #57]
Haha so now people are downgrading Tate's great work just because Shida is also really good? Man, I'm getting old for forums, I guess. This is too much.
