Re: Dragon Ball Super: Power Level Discussion Thread
The fact that base Goku is still weaker than Freeza means that #18 is holding back, or she can't have an even fight with "Mighty Mask". Which makes perfect sense, since #18 can't sense ki (as far as we know in the manga), and she was supposed to fight normal Earthlings in a tournament that killing is against the rules.SSJ2FutureGohan wrote:And that's not an assumption? Re: Dragon Ball Super: Power Level Discussion Thread
That one statement comes from the same source that says Bulma is 39 five years after the Boo arc, Dende's Shenron only grants one wish, Mai is the same age as Goku in the Pilaf saga, Piccolo is Dodoria tier, and a power level of 1.3 million is strong enough to one-shot Base Gohan. So I personally take it with a grain of salt.
As for #18 vs. the kids, I think it's clear what #18 does when her opponent is much weaker than her..

She obviously saw that there was something strange about Mighty Mask, but that doesn't mean she would go all-out against him.SSJ2FutureGohan wrote:As for #18 vs. the kids, I think it's clear what #18 does when her opponent is much weaker than her..Spoiler:

She couldn't increase her effort level just a little bit and knock him out of the ring without killing him? She decided to stay slightly advantaged against him for the entirety of the match just because?

Yes, she was curious about what the hell was wrong with him, since he was unusually strong with an unusual body.SSJ2FutureGohan wrote:She couldn't increase her effort level just a little bit and knock him out of the ring without killing him? So staying in the air fighting him will answer her question instead of just knocking him out of the ring and unmasking him?
Re: Dragon Ball Super: Power Level Discussion Thread
How is this even an argument? #18 was fighting not one, but two, saiyans, holding her own and outsmarting them, and we don't even know is she was fighting full out (only using low-powered ki attacks). They were forced to transform to try to beat her, and even then we don't know if they would have if the fight continued. Also, #18 is strong enough to completely outclass adult Vegeta or Trunks SSJ1 -- since she is an android, there is no reason to believe she gets weaker than that if she doesn't train.

Yes, she prefered to find out the truth by fighting him. She should also get an idea of his power through a fight, or she may accidentally kill him by using too much force.SSJ2FutureGohan wrote:So staying in the air fighting him will answer her question instead of just knocking him out of the ring and unmasking him?

In the crappy sub of episode 5 I saw, Beerus says, "I admit, it is possible to defeat Freeza this way [in reference to SSJ Goku]... but Freeza must have given you a really tough fight that time..."
This implies SSJ Goku is as strong as he was on Namek, completely ignoring the Cell saga. Was this a sub error, or do we have a plot hole here?

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Don't they say "anything in the universe"? In the Episode 5, Kaio says "Beerus-sama can expand his power from edge to edge of the universe" or something along those lines. I don't know if it's the correct translation.Saiyan007 wrote:King Kai and Supreme Kai both say Beerus can destroy the universe

Do you mean, when's talking about how Beerus could blow Goku to the edge of the universe with a single snort?Hugo Boss wrote:Don't they say "anything in the universe"? If you don't know where to find accurate translations, don't even bother bringing things up. It's practically guaranteed the stuff you quote was never actually said.

I'm not sure, I saw a Portuguese sub. Given the common English word "edge", we could be talking about the same thing.dbgtFO wrote:Do you mean, when's talking about how Beerus could blow Goku to the edge of the universe with a single snort?Hugo Boss wrote:Don't they say "anything in the universe"? Re: Dragon Ball Super: Power Level Discussion Thread
You are indeed taking about the same thing. Kaio says Beerus could blow Goku to the ends of the universe with a snort, as if Goku were just a booger. Arguably that's much weirder than the "expanding his power" mistranslation, but anyway, that's what he actually says.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Power Level Discussion Thread
Thank you again, Herms. I felt like in Portuguese the mistranslation made perfect sense. Is the correct sentence supposed to be a hyperbole or a joke? I mean, it seems like something to not take literally to me, but I imagine in Japanese it could have some other reference.

It's a play on words or something. I think it was pointed out over on the site's episode guide for this episode. You should go check it out!Hugo Boss wrote:Thank you again, Herms.
