Goku beat Freeza is like 5 or so minutes. Trunks beats Freeza in seconds. Now Goku gets the credit...but if Biruse knew of Trunks I wonder if he'd even be interested in fighting Goku. How would he deal with Trunks being from another timeline?

Ahahaha I tried to teach this difference to my young brother when he was small, this brought those memories back, because I had some weird looks from my mum when playing some fighter where if it's not stated specifically or it's Mortal Kombat, you simply defeat your oponent.
My brother always defeated someone and shouted: ''Yes, I killed that prick!''

It's kind of already been retconned by the Dragon Ball Online timeline. Toriyama was more involved with that and it ignores the GT continuity so they are going to ignore it. I also don't see why they wouldn't ignore it. It's considered by many to be a complete fail and for good reason. Dragon Ball GT is practically the Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 for Toei. It was one of those things that could have been good but it turned out so bad it's kind of embarrasing that Toei made this just like it's embarrasing for Sega to have made Sonic 06.

GT was a successsful anime, not as huge as DBZ, but still a success. Don't change the past.

I think if they were going to do that, they'd set the movie between the end of Z and the start of GT.

The final Nako Majin Z chapter is the only official release set between the end of Z and the start of GT.

The last figure...I feel like I want to place my bets on it being either a new movie-only transformation for Goku (my long-shot detailed guess at this is the kais will temporarily imbue him with some magical power that negates any effects of Virus' special powers so they can fight each other on even ground), or it's a 3rd new character that hasn't been revealed yet. I don't think Virus will have a 2nd form and I don't think it'll be Gogeta either.

It might be Toribot, the God of Creation Akira Toriyama.

Cool, good to know. Anyone on the forum going to Jump Festa? It's too bad OPP's Greg isn't going to make it this year. I bet he might have tried to make it to this if it didn't conflict with any One Piece stuff.

I'm hoping to see Vegeta wearing a pink shirt in the film. Also hoping to see some cross-media/time promotion involving PS2 DLC for the new villain as a playable character in DBZ Budokai 3.

Oh, and I bet $5 they're going to explain the Gohan thing in the movie. Any takers?

I really hope this takes place after "Yo, Son Goku..." because it'd be nice to have Tarble in this film. But by the looks of it so far it looks like he won't be in this film.

I assume he goes back to his home planet with his wife, and maybe even the reformed Abo and Cado, after a short stay on Earth. If they were still on Earth, you'd think we'd have seen them at some point in the final tournament in DBZ, the Uub stuff.

Course, he hadn't been created at that point obviously, but my point still stands.

I hope someone from the forums does get there; even though I know getting into the panel itself is extremely difficult as Greg's past travels getting into Jump Festa One Piece panels have shown. I agree; since all three of those voice actors also voice characters in One Piece.

Yeah me too... I think it takes place after the jump special mainly because they were starved for a strong opponent in hey son goku... and their ages appear to be about the same... maybe a few years later.

Also, it's possible well see tarble as some kind of cut away cameo with perhaps abo and cado... ya know like when people on namek or something can sense the horrible power goku and co.are fighting.

You know that GT had poor ratings on TV at the time right? If it was successful then they would have made more DB anime shows at the time. They hardly make any GT merchandise after 1997 and that's most likely because GT is not popular in Japan.

I like Tarble as well. Seeing that AT wrote the story for this film then I somewhat doubt he will be seen or mention. I don't think he created Tarble in the first place from what I can remember?

This has to do with the fact that it's meant to be canon to the series and manga, excluding movies.
So someone unfamiliar with the 2008 special wouldn't understand who's that mini-Vegeta coming from nowhere and what he's doing with the team?

I'm pretty sure he came up with the story concept and designed the new characters as well. Probably similar thing he is doing with BOG... I don't know if it's been confirmed, but I wonder if Toriyama designed the new characters in this new movie?

Going by what I've seen of his recent Dragon Quest designs, my current theory is that Toriyama did the character designs for Virus, Uisu, and even the Mystery Tree. Uisu especially could fit easily among Dragon Quest's cast of characters.

Originally I thought Virus' design was a weird choice, but then I remembered Majin Buu and realized I probably would've thought his initial character appearance just as strange as Virus'.

The "longing for a challenge" melancholy Goku's got in the 08 special is another reason why I would put BOG as taking place afterward (maybe half a year to even so much as 2 years after "Ossu!".).

The comparision is obvious, but Bilus looks more than a little like the alternate breeds of Neko Majin briefly showcased in one of the Neko Majin chapters. So it wouldn't surprise me if Toriyama designed him. It's also hard to imagine anyone but Toriyama being deranged enough to go "hey, for the first full-length DBZ movie in over a decade, let's have Goku get beat up by a purple cat man!"

This is so true. I think the more familiarity you have with Toriyama's works, the more all this strangeness makes sense. My hopes are high atm for the entertainment value of this film. I feel like this'll be similar to the 08' special only with extra/more action involved.

My guess is that the JSAT special, while great, wasn't seen by most of the general population of Japan. I think this movie is aimed at EVERYONE, not just anime/DB fans, and I would bet that if you asked the common person in Japan about Tarble, they would say, "Who?" So I'm almost positive he won't show up in this movie.
