The bits I've seen from the HaCha movie look so much better than the series does, it's amazing. I want to see a fluid, stylish animation style applied to DB. I'm just tired of Yamamuro.

Very few key animators from Dragon Ball have improved a lot since the end of Dragon Ball GT . Shida and Tate have been better than Yamamuro as does Ryou Oonoshi. My guess is that Yamamuro seems to go for the simpler route when animating Dragon Ball . Not only that, but their production time has been very lacking in the recent years so it hasn't helped Toei Animation either given over a hundred shows have been animated this year. Toei could only pick so much shows for better production time and animation.

No, it's not cheaper. The character designer for a television series makes even more money than the series director, though I doubt it's different for a film given the character designer typically acts as the chief animation supervisor. The chief animation supervisor is typically more on-hands with the key animators (unless the director himself is a talented animator). We know Yamamuro is creating new character designs for the main characters, so I can't imagine this was a case of Yamamuro needing to save time by reusing his old designs. My guess is that he asked to direct the film or was asked to by request of Toriyama...or Morishita Kouzou.

This is Yamamuro's first directing gig, so I can't imagine he was brought on to 'save money' so much as because nobody else would want to direct a movie on the budget and production schedule this movie is going to have.

Yeah, that's a shame. Their asking production time has already taken a toll on the extremely busy company. It's never a good news when someone has to be a director and act as a chief animation supervisor and character designer, like Yamamuro is. It would be nice if their production time allows them one year to pull off the movie. With the money they have profited from the international screenings plus Japan, and the increased production time, they would have found someone to direct the movie, and have someone else take over character designer. The animation would turn out excellent, like the recent Detective Conan movies and Precure.

Being director, character designer, and chief animation supervisor isn't necessarily a bad thing. Ryoo-chimo has performed the role of all three for Yozakura Quartet...Ryoo-chimo just so happens to be a great animator, director, and character designer. In contrast Yamamuro's designs as of late haven't been the best, he hasn't shown off any impressive animation skills, nor has he actually done any real directing. Add those three in with the fact that this movie is being produced during the busiest year Toei Animation has ever had and it simply doesn't look good.

Now, we could wind up with a miraculous coup none of us see coming. Yamamuro and his producing partner might very well be able to hunt down talented freelancers (probably through the contacts of other directors and animators at Toei Animation) and entrust them with complete creative control of their cuts, thus winding up with nice visuals...but for now it is impossible to really foresee anything. As of this post Shida Naotoshi has yet to even mention the movie on Twitter. Hell, he hasn't talked about his work at all recently.

Kurita Shin'ichi hasn't done anything as of late. Kurita did the last scene of the Ultimate Blast Opening. If Yamamuro befriended him while working on that Opening perhaps Kurita has been working on this movie? Or not.

They are quite possibly the worst characters in anime history being that they single handedly ruined the entire anime. Pokemon could have been a pretty good show because it did have had a lot of potential but instead it was just a childish and insanely repetitive show. Half the episode would progress Ashs adventure and the the other half would be the same exact shit episode after episode for hundreds upon hundreds of episodes.

They should make a Pokemon Kai where all traces of Team Rocket were removed.

Mai and Trunks was cute, and feels like the kind of things that can truly happen to kids at family parties in real life.
Plus, at their age and in the Dragon World, it's all about holding hands (apparently the equivalent to kisses for kids in the Dragon World), so nothing big so far.

We'll see if it was just some "one night holding-hands" stuff (again, happens easily to kids in real life during parties to be a "couple" just for it and then part ways) or if they're still together later on, but if they were, I think you'd see Mai with the rest of the family at the Tenkaichi Budokai, she'd come to encourage her boyfriend.
So, maybe they're still a cute "kid couple" in this new movie, but that's not even sure, and signs tend to show they're at least not together anymore when the manga epilogue arrives years later.

I'm allergic to all shippings that need excuses to explain that they shouldn't be punished by law("but she is really immortal vampire queen who happens to look and behave like a child dressed as a Victorian themed hooker"). A lot of people here seem to read waaayyyy too much into Dragon Ball's plot undertones. It's a goofy, nonsensical comic books series. Treating anything weird that happens in it through the leans of serious real-life logic and societal standards is an exercise in utter futility -much like replying to posts like this:

Yes, that is fake, in so many ways. Shueisha would never use that Toribot (it's fan made), Toriyama's comment is verbatim from V-Jump, the white fading around the logo is the same as the image file from the official movie website, ANN doesn't use that type of watermark, and the layout is just completely off from what Shueisha would use.
