Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
Wtf is with the song in the background while Krillin was picking up everyone's bodies? It seems grossly out of place and took me out of the moment more than any moment in the show before.

You haven't been watching many episodes of DB or DBZ in Japanese have you?LeprikanGT wrote:Wtf is with the song in the background while Krillin was picking up everyone's bodies? It seems grossly out of place and took me out of the moment more than any moment in the show before.

Can't relate to that at all, unfortunately. I love the dubbed version more than the original version.LeprikanGT wrote:Wtf is with the song in the background while Krillin was picking up everyone's bodies? A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Sounds like Stephanie Young did the English "OVER THE STAR".

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I've watched the first 13 episodes on US bluray and all the episodes on nicktoons.
I had my back to the tv listening to it while doing other stuff and it stopped me dead in what I was doing.
.......Is the JP version full of that?

FUNi is dubbing the insert songs! They're really serious about Kai.

Looks that way. I'm really curious to see how they're gonna handle Only a Chilling Elegy and Saiyan Blood. Also, with Only a Chilling Elegy, that scene on Nicktoons. That'll be severely censored.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:FUNi is dubbing the insert songs! They're really serious about Kai.

It doesn't surprise me that they're dubbing the insert songs. They were doing that with "One Piece," too.SSJ4 Furanki wrote:Looks that way. But yeah...that "Only a Chilling Energy" scene is going to be censored to within an inch of its life. I remember seeing that scene for the first time on YouTube and laughing thinking about how censored it was going to be. I laughed and thought out loud, "thank God for uncut DVDs."

Oh, yeah. No doubt. But, considering in the past Dragon Ball always got the oddball treatment with insert songs. So, to see them in this time around is nice.TheBlackPaladin wrote:It doesn't surprise me that they're dubbing the insert songs. Yeah, Uncut all the way. I want it to be September, well it'll be later than that for those songs; but, still.

As far as the actual song, "Only a Chilling Energy"...I think they'll dub that, too. Not only that, I would go as far as to say they'll dub it with an actual choir. For the dubbed version of the song "Compass" (the end of One Piece Movie 8 ), they brought in an actual choir to sing some of the lines in English.

They handled "Over the Star" pretty well, I thought.

"It might as well have been in Japanese!"
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It sounded like Brina Palencia was singing Over The Star, but I'm not sure.

I actually chuckled at this line, then cursed myself for doing so.jjgp1112 wrote:"It might as well have been in Japanese!"
I forgot to mention, but I'm glad they had Goku's real reason for sparing Vegeta's life.

I missed tonight's episode.....what was Goku's reason for letting Vegeta go? To live with his shame or something?

To let him get healed so he could fight him again.LeprikanGT wrote:I missed tonight's episode.....what was Goku's reason for letting Vegeta go? To live with his shame or something?

Yeah, the choir was what I was wondering about. But, that also leaves the question who'll be the English guy for H.E. DEMON?TheBlackPaladin wrote:As far as the actual song, "Only a Chilling Energy"...I think they'll dub that, too. Not only that, I would go as far as to say they'll dub it with an actual choir. EDIT: Watched it again, that part isn't in the TV Version. Actually, I've only seen the part on Episode 37's. Apparently it's in Episode 40 according to Kanzentai.

Not the exact wording; but, Goku just being selfish and wanting to fight Vegeta again in the future.
Yeah, what YBM said.

Because he's impressed with his strength and doesn't want to see it wasted. He wants to fight Vegeta again someday.LeprikanGT wrote:I missed tonight's episode.....what was Goku's reason for letting Vegeta go? To live with his shame or something?
Though in the past, the dub has kept in the part about admiring his strength, they've always given Goku more altruistic reasons for letting Vegeta go, "to show him what mercy is like". Goku's real motivation is much more selfish, keeping in line with his personality of wanting just to fight a really strong opponent.
It's good to see Funimation acknowleding Goku's actual personality.

I guess that's better than cut his head off now and you and Gohan are going to get your behinds handed to you when you arrive on Namek.

Re: "DragonBall Z Kai" TV Broadcast Talkback
I've always thought that many things considered "unfortunate" in DBZ actually guaranteed the better outcome. For example, let's say Piccolo's makankossapo actually hit Raditz the first time around, without killing Goku. Then Goku wouldn't have died...and he also wouldn't have received King Kai's training, which more than anything else helped ensure a victory over Vegeta.LeprikanGT wrote:I guess that's better than cut his head off now and you and Gohan are going to get your behinds handed to you when you arrive on Namek.
Speaking of Vegeta...if they killed him, then it would have been Gohan and Krilln/Kuririn alone going to Planet Namek, and the Ginyu Force would most likely have killed them. They almost did anyway, but Vegeta was able to hold them off for a little while before Goku showed up and took care of the situation.
