Like snagging up the distribution rights to PSG.
Why can't we both have Buu Saga dubbing and a Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt dub? I'd like both.

What are you talking about? Kai was number 3 (probably the first time) on the chart but One Piece was number 1.

Somebody probably should change the title of the topic into "Kai is over, Toriko sucks balls"

For those calling my thoughts "paranoia" I'd like to give you this:

Consider it an, "I told you so," type of thing.

For those who figured the show would end at 100-ish episodes, consider yourselves right.

As for the confirmation: "Well... fuck."

It was fun, but this was always a possibility. Now that it's the truth, I'm not sure where I'm going from here with Kai. I hate to see it end especially since I was so enthusiastic for it, but I'm a manga fanboy at heart and I've gained a new appreciation for the original DBZ anime over the past couple of years. I'll probably be just fine.

I still have no clue what Toriko is, though.

It sucks that Kai's ending with only 2/3 of the story finished, but it sucks more for fans of the Funi dub than it does for others. If you're a Japanese version fan, Kai was an interesting, but largely unnecessary distraction. It was fun while it lasted, but nothing special. For dub fans, however, it was huge. The prospect of getting the first truly good dub of DBZ from Funimation is amazing, and Funi was so clearly behind it and supportive of it.

The bright side is that what there was of Kai was very good, and it helped DBZ in a number of ways. It introduced new fans to the series. It showed that Funi is capable of doing a good dub of the series. And finally, it gave us Chris Ayres as the new Freeza for the foreseeable future. While a new dub for Buu would be great, the parts that really needed fixing have been (or will soon be) fixed in Kai, so rather than be disappointed by the loss, it seems to me that it's better to be hopeful for the future and thankful to Funi for what they've done with Kai.

Ugh, I just realized this is probably going to get a ton of stupider fans talking about how "Toriyama intended for the series to end at Cell!" and "The Buu Saga isn't canon!"

I still do not understand, and am getting quite perturbed, with this sudden hatred for Toriko. It didn't do anything to get Kai canceled. You know what got Kai canceled? Kai did! This has nothing to do with Toriko! They needed a replacement for Kai, and they just happened to choose Toriko since it's currently such a popular shounen manga. Maybe you should take your misguided anger and direct it at another series that actually does suck. And if anything, you should probably be pissed at yourself if you didn't buy any Kai merchandise from Japan, because then you're just as much at fault for getting Kai canceled.

The series is ending with episode 98, as has been previously announced as the end of the Jinzoningen & Cell arc.

At least the show didn't get cancelled before the end of the Cell arc. I'm not going to say something as ridiculous as "The Boo arc isn't canon," because I actually really like the Boo arc. What I will point out is that If you had to stop the series short at any one point, this is probably the best time to do it. There is a really nice progression from Saiyan arc to Freeza to Cell. While I love the Boo arc, it does almost seem like a different series in some ways.

It was Kenji Yamamoto's fault!!!
Did he really think the japanese viewers would like the DB Kai soundtrack to consist of cheap ripoff tracks of recent American Action Films?

Seriously thuogh, I'm pretty sure everyone for the past few months had a good idea about what would happen, but hey at least Kai gave us this!!! amongst other fun tracks!

FUNimation could just make the last part a single disce release or make part 7 a 3-disc release. There are ways around it.

That was... actually just a little joke... I don't hate or angry at the Toriko series, at all (and if I do, it would not because of this). I think hating Toriko just because it happens to replace Kai in it's timeslot is just childish.

The reason Kai ends at the Cell arc is because it's not profitable enough for Toei. Toei's making a good business decision by ending Kai. This is the real world, Toei's objective is money and when Kai doesn't make enough money, they definitely want to change it into something that makes more money.

I think If one should be blame for this, it is Toei for not completely re-animate Kai from the start.

......also, I did bought some Kai merchandise directly from Japan.

Really? I think Kai would have ended a long time ago if they did that. It would be so expensive to re-animate the whole show.

Yes, it would be expensive to re-animate the whole show, but it would be way more successful than the current Kai. Therefore, it would finish the entire Z portion of the series.

Can't say I'm surprised... Toei is a business and Kai wasn't delivering enough to keep it going. I would've loved to see Kai reanimated, but the costs might be more than what it'd be worth. Hopefully in the future we'll see more specials, like the one in 2008.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

You have absolutely no way of knowing how a reanimated show would have fared. Stop talking in absolutes about things you cannot possibly know.

Well, that's arguable. Who knows if it would be more popular?

It would kind of work out the same. They would be taking a huge risk as well, hopping that merchandise sales can make them a profit, which I don't think it would. They can't be doing that well with merchandise now, so why would it make a huge difference?

I'd say by re-animating it they would be lucky to break even, never mind make a profit.

That's exactly what the makers of DBZ Budokai 1 and Burst Limit thought while making those games. :P

But then you would have fans like me, who don't care about Kai at all, actually be interested in the show and purchase it's merchandise. I'm a big Dragonball collector, but I have not purchased anything related to Kai because I'm not a fan of it. That would be different if the show was drawn from scratch and gotten the same treatment as FMA:Brotherhood. And I'm sure there are a lot of fans like me who feel the same way about purchasing Kai's merchandise. Now, if it would be enough fans to actually keep Kai going, that's something that we'll never know.
