It's also worth mentioning that the word-bubbles within the panels are also read from right to left, though you may have figured that out while reading it.

Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
This is something I always wondered so what about those panels where the bottom left one is next to the two panels on the bottom right? Edit: After looking at it some more I figured it out. It's the bottom right ones first.
Spoiler:
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)

Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
Its exactly the same as western comics, except the orientation is backwards (right to left instead of left to right).
Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
Yeah, you're always reading right to left no matter what. Panels follow the same rules no matter how they're laid out.

After reading so much manga, I start trying to go back to western comics and keep reading everything backwards. So frustrating

Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
I've been reading them, so far I've read the first three and have noticed a few changes in the dialogue. Most of the time I don't really understand why it's been changed.
Kuririn's, "I feel like a Kamikaze, dammit..." was changed to "I feel like a Kamikaze." Piccolo says "Wake up child of mine" to Gohan, and now says "Wake up child of Goku". When Gohan attacks Nappa he now says "Masenko!" but on the original Viz he just yells.
I hope these changes are more in line with the original translation, but sometimes just seem unnecessary.

Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
"I feel like a kamikaze, dammit" was probably changed to avoid using a swear word. In Japanese Kuririn uses the swearword chikushou there. Viz removed quite a few instances of cursing in their later editions.CordonBloo wrote:Kuririn's, "I feel like a Kamikaze, dammit..." was changed to "I feel like a Kamikaze." Gohan does say "Masenko" at that point in Japanese; it's actually the only point that attack name is used throughout the manga. Viz having him yell instead was a weird change that they fixed in later editions, even before the full color release.
"Wake up child of Goku" is basically what Piccolo says in Japanese, although there it's more like "hey, Son Goku's kid, wake up!" (same meaning, different tone). Viz's original "wake up, child of mine" was probably just sort of a joke, since "child of mine" is an old-fashioned phrase which implies affection Piccolo obviously lacks at this point.
Overall, I think all of these changes to the translation were made first in older Viz editions prior to this, and that no new changes were made to the translation for the full color release.

Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
Which is a shame, the current translation could certainly use a revision. It's not that bad overall and the Piccolo talk doesn't bother me all that much, but the whole "Vegeta killing grandpa Gohan" incident should never had seen the light of day. Also not very fond of their "translator's notes".Herms wrote:Overall, I think all of these changes to the translation were made first in older Viz editions prior to this, and that no new changes were made to the translation for the full color release.

Was this a manga error too or are you confusing it with the initial Ocean cast dub? I wasn't aware that made it into the manga too.jrdemr wrote: "Vegeta killing grandpa Gohan" incident should never had seen the light of day.

Unfortunately, it very much did. It was a nod back to that early dub which also ended up modifying the next line, where Vegeta explained exactly by how much the Oozaru form powered him up.AjayLikesGaming wrote: Was this a manga error too or are you confusing it with the initial Ocean cast dub? Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
Sort of. Viz had Gokū state that Vegeta killed Grandpa Gohan, and then Vegeta calls him an idiot because that makes no sense.

Yes, it's not exactly the same, it's never actually stated that Vegeta killed Gohan, but they modified those three lines to make a nod to the original dub, omitting in-universe information in the process.Puto wrote:Sort of. Thank you for clearing that up, I'm glad that this is more faithful to the original. Shame about the censorship though, 'Dammit' isn't even really considered a bad word in this country.Herms wrote:"I feel like a kamikaze, dammit" was probably changed to avoid using a swear word. Regarding the Goku and Vegeta thing... Did Goku ever find out it was him?

Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
Goku finds out that he himself was the giant monkey monster who killed his grandfather in that scene where he first sees Oozaru Vegeta, if that's what you mean. Viz has Goku mistakenly think Vegeta was the culprit at first, but even there Goku gets the picture soon enough.CordonBloo wrote:Regarding the Goku and Vegeta thing... Ugh... Dammit. What was actually said in the original Japanese? What in-universe information was lost?jrdemr wrote:Yes, it's not exactly the same, it's never actually stated that Vegeta killed Gohan, but they modified those three lines to make a nod to the original dub, omitting in-universe information in the process.Puto wrote:Sort of. I don't really remember. Wasn't it the Ozaru's power multiplier?IAmTheMilkMan wrote:Ugh... Dammit. What was actually said in the original Japanese? What in-universe information was lost?
Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
Exactly. The Viz edition never stated that Vegeta's strength gets multiplied by 10 in Oozaru form.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I don't really remember. Wasn't it the Ozaru's power multiplier?
