Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Movie 11 was terrible in my opinion because it was boring and the movie was just lazy. They could have used more original ideas instead just milking the same character again. Mr. Satan's backstory was nice, but that's about it in my opinion.

And yes, these days, if something with a damn pyramid or egyptian pharaoh comes out, rest assured its Illuminati related. Since thats what seems to be the theme everywhere nowadays in pop culture; movies, music videos, books, magazines, etc.

What's the last Egypt-related thing that we saw in any pop media. The last movie I can think of was The Scorpion King which was 10 years ago. So what are you talking about?

Is Transformers 3 counted?

You mean Transformers 2, I forgot about that one for a second. I think an Egypt-related character in DB is pretty cool and I won't mind seeing a Dragon Ball character based on Greek mythology next. A character based on Prometheus or maybe Hades might be neat to see.

Anyone know anything about a new flyer/one-page ad that's got Birusu and ssj3 Goku on it? It's being talked about on 2ch, but there's no pictures or anything. Still in the process of trying to figure out if it's one of the new editions of a Jump magazine. (Possibly WSJ 4-5? There's 2 pages in there based on the TOC about Jump Festa. It could be VJump, but I've got nothing to go on with that other than its next issue comes out in a few days officially.)

Pilaf Gang is hanging off of the 3/30 digits at the bottom? That is so cute. X3 Those pen-point balls (as opposed to ball-point pens) are also cute, even if their design is ridiculous for writing with.

One Piece is always a hard act to follow; I can't imagine BOG topping it in sales. OP is so huge that it's like the Disney/Pixar of Japan; near-everyone in Japan regardless of who they are reads and watches One Piece.

Has Dragon Ball's popularity ever come close to One Peice's? Like in it's golden years in the early to mid 90's?

I don't think it has; I mean, Japan had more kids back when DB was running, but One Piece seems to have broken the age barrier like crazy. I think OP having a bigger world and history to explore, there being a wider variety of different powers, a slower burn to how much stronger in a span of time characters can get, along with the differences between what drives Oda's passion to create vs Toriyama's is part of why OP's lasted so long and become so huge in Japan.

I'm pretty sure DB's still the more popular one internationally though.

I think it's a credit to Toriyama that he was able to create so much flying by the seat of his pants through. From what I've read, Oda plans everything; he's got set-ups within his set-ups. If Toriyama had used Oda's techniques, DB could have gone on for a lot longer, but then he wouldn't be Toriyama.


Also, I probably should source and post the part of that thread about the flyer in case anyone who can translate Japanese well would be able to pick up any clues about where the flyer came from.

Also, about how small/shrunken-down Pilaf Gang is on the poster; maybe they really are shrunken to that size in the movie; I mean, we see them in the trailer, but they're not standing next to anyone else in the cast aside from each other.

Wow, I never knew that One Piece appealed to so many other demographics! I wonder if Toriyama hadn't ended when he did, the series could have had more fans compared to today.

From what I've seen following OP, I'm continuously in awe of how deeply it spreads across demographics in Japan. I'm not actively involved in the OP community, but I do follow the franchise.

It's possible DB could've gone on longer. I do think One Piece's slow burn with the character strengths, and having a bigger world to explore are what has helped it a lot in terms of staying power. If Goku and company hadn't gotten so strong so fast, and if so much of Dragon World wasn't uninhabited, the story could've gone on longer and we'd have had more arcs.

Stopping him with one finger (that Midas-Finger he used to turn the egg to sand?) really makes me think it's something magic-related.

OR if it's not magic, it'll be a retread of Trunks with sword vs Goku, only this time it's Goku vs Birusu with finger (and Goku loses instead).

Hmm, interesting. If he's really capable of stopping Goku with just a finger, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a brief appearance of Gogeta (not to actually defeat the enemy, more like GT than Movie 12). Whether he appears or not though, I'm getting even more excited to see how things play out.

About 20 minutes ago who I think might be Avenged (the handle name is in English and matches his avatar, Chrono, on this forum) asked about the flyer in the 2ch thread, but no one's answered him (yet).

Or it might be someone else and the Chrono name is a coincidence. Still, whoever asked, I hope they get a response. I appreciate them asking; bringing it up there on the 2ch thread gives a better chance for a link to a scan to appear. My personal guess would be either V Jump #2 or Weekly Shounen Jump 4-5 double-issue.
