Interesting. I wish we could get some more clips.

Yes, I mis-heard the line, and thought he was speaking sarcastically of Raditz. The way he spoke the line, "VEN" sort of tails off, and all I heard was "HEH".SaiyamanMS wrote:... He IS crushing his scouter in anger. He should sound angrier than what Sabat gave. His delivery in the Ultimate Uncut was better. In this he sounds just shocked rather than shocked and angry.KaiserNeko wrote:What, you want him to be yelling it like in Ocean? It's no weaker than the Japanese version and there's no reason for Vegeta to even BE that shouty about it.Gozar wrote:Great to hear that FUNi is putting accuracy before pleasing fans of a silly meme. Thought Sabat's delivery was a little weak. But I'll live =D
But anyway, this really isn't important. I don't want to ruin this topic by being a downer over a single line delivery that doesn't matter. Fact is this is looking truly amazing. An absolute dream come true. I can't wait until Monday.
Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
But, it's true that in the original, he wasn't that mad. Especially considering it was nothing compared to him. More shock, with a modest bit of rage that a low class Saiyan could grow so much, likely.
As for the volume itself, do we get any insert songs in these 13 episodes? If so, who sings them?

The first insert song was "Over the Star" in episode 17, so that won't show up until the next set.Mewzard wrote:As for the volume itself, do we get any insert songs in these 13 episodes? If so, who sings them?

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
Is that consistent with the original series by that point, or did it have insert songs pre-Vegeta fight?

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
The first insert song in DBZ, "Shura-Iro no Senshi", was played during Kaio's non-canonical-and-retconed explaination of the Saiya-jin back-history in DBZ episode 20. This was at a point in the series before where "Over the Star" was used in Kai episode 17 (which was during the pick-up of all the friends' corpses after the Vegeta fight).Mewzard wrote:Is that consistent with the original series by that point, or did it have insert songs pre-Vegeta fight?

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
do someone know if the dvd boxset is in 4:3 format like the blu-rays, too ??? or in 16:9 like in japan ?
The word "KAI" means in the old North Germanic language Frisian "Kämpfer engl. Fighter" respectively "Krieger engl. Warrior"!

Although, admittedly, it will be a while before I post pictures. I'm gonna watch the shit out of it before I do anything.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
Kaio sounds the same as he always has, snorting and all. Schemmel somewhat lost the lisp for the character, but it still sounds not at all appropriate for our dear, dear Kaio-sama. Kaio's jokes in the dub seem to have been somewhat brought over from the Japanese version, because they made no sense, and are probably puns.
Gregory is still voiced by John Burgmeier, but now has a voice filter applied to it, making him sound really high-pitched. Oolong has a new voice, Bryan Massey. He sounds similar to Brad Jackson's portrayal, but it's much simpler and easier on the ears. Still not sure if Oolong should have such a deep voice, but it's better than it used to be. Pu-erh and Chaozu are now voiced by Brina Palencia, and she does a fine job with both, but I hear Chopper in both of them. Then again, I'm a Chopper-obsessed fan-boy.
I'm through nine episodes, and Chris Sabat's Vegeta sounds really good. The best he's ever done. His Piccolo also continues to impress. Burgmeier's Tenshinhan is also much better, and natural sounding.
There are no alternate angles on this set. Even if you're watching the Japanese version, you're stuck with the English translated credits and titles. This is, for the most part, acceptable, but in those instances where the dub term differs from the Japanese, you'll have an impure title card to sit through. The dub titles also throw in random exclamation marks where there weren't any in the Japanese title.
Overall, this is the best dub we've ever gotten. My biggest complaint would be the narrator's use of "Last time on", or "Find out today!", or "on the next, Dragon Ball Z Kai", which is a carryover from the old days, and has absolutely no place here. They should've used that ONLY in the TV dub if they wanted, but it has no place in the uncut dub on DVD.
The menus on the Blu-ray play over nice selection of battle scenes, with some really nice, dramatic battle music playing. I haven't watched much of Kai in the past, so I have no idea if this is actual Kai music, or something made-up, but it's awesome regardless. The menu selections, however, are incredibly tiny and hard to read. Wear your glasses.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
If the biggest complaint is the narrator saying "Last time on DBZKai" at some point, then this is a far better dub than most would get even in a good. The more I hear, the more hopeful things sound, for the most part. Not perfect, mind you, but a lot of good things.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Kai Volume 1 Discussion
I had a little higher hopes for the episode titles, but I guess it's better than what they did to Z. But still, why do they feel the need to change certain little things? Like "Son Goku" to just "Goku", and "Kilometers" to "Miles". Even the translations of certain titles are off, and not actually what's being said. I hate to be super picky like this, but this is the part that's the easiest. The titles are written in Japanese, so all you have to do is translate them. Some of the changes, although minor, completely change the title of the episode. While whole halves of certain episode titles are just completely changed or things are inserted that even written in the originals. And I'm not even talking about the issues I have with using terms like Tien, King Kai, Tri-Beam, or Saibaman.
I guess I'll just have to wait until I get a copy and can sit down to watch an actual episode myself. It should be an interesting review.
