It's not quite the same though. With GT, in his own words he had absolutely no involvement in the story. With DBO he has to at least approve the story.Zephyr wrote:We don't know how deeply involved Toriyama actually was with DBO. Sure he created concept art, but that deosn't mean he thought the idea up all on his own. He simply let the company develop a Dragonball game taking place after Z, and gave them some ideas. Same as he did with GT.
DBO or DBGT, which is the true sequel of DragonBall?

Ah that's right. But still, approving things isn't the same as creating all of the ideas himself.Herms wrote:It's not quite the same though. That's true. But while it doesn't necessarily contradict that manga, it still creates too many ridiculous plot devices for me to regard it as anymore fitting than GT.Fox666 wrote:That has nothing to do with "contradiction"Zephyr wrote:Which is just as cheap and ridiculous, if not more so, than a lot of the stupid ones from the manga. I say both. There's no contridiction. At least none I can't fanwank away.
Re: DBO or DBGT, which is the true sequel of DragonBall?
Well there's the fact that Goku is alive and well 100 years after GT, whereas in DBO it says that Goku and Vegeta, feeling old age upon them, left Earth at the same time to fight and never returned.mister yummy wrote:I say both. There's no contridiction. At least none I can't fanwank away.
Also, Piccolo sacrificed himself so as to make sure te Ultimate Dragon Balls couldn't return, wwhile he's still alive and well in DBO.
I may have screwed up some of the details though...

Eventually, Piccolo may have decided he wanted to be alive again, and some Kai gave him his life. Hey, it worked for Goku.
It says they never returned? Perhaps Goku wasn't really there 100 years later, at least not any more than he was in movie 10 or when Gohan killed Cell.
The one that I pondered for a while is how did Buu come back. I decided that after Uub died of natural causes, Mr. Buu came crawling out of the corpse, and continued his life.

Well, the DBO information says that Mr. Boo died, but I don't think it ever gave a date. His merger with Oob could be counted as his "death," I suppose.mister yummy wrote:The one that I pondered for a while is how did Buu come back. Also, I really like the whole "Goku and Vegeta cause supernova-sized explosions during their final battle" idea. I like it even better when I picture them fighting that battle at Super Saiyan 4.

Re: DBO or DBGT, which is the true sequel of DragonBall?
Technically it doesn't have to have been a "supernova sized explosion", does it? The common way of detecting a supernova is that they're bright. The ki from their fight could have been as luminous as a supernova without actually being a supernova, because ki's funny like that.

True but this is DB we're talking about, chances are if a supernova is detected, and Goku and Vegeta were thought to be responsible for it, they blew something up. Why else would they have their fight so far away from Earth?Bussani wrote:Technically it doesn't have to have been a "supernova sized explosion", does it? I would say each are alternate futures, similar to what Marvel uses in their comics.
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.

Supernovas shine brighter than entire galaxies of a hundred billion stars. If they were close enough to Earth to be seen in a few years, the light would've scorched the Earth clean.Bussani wrote:The ki from their fight could have been as luminous as a supernova

DB doesn`t need to be just like the real world in its science. DB only has 4 galaxies after all. A supernova in DB can be much smaller.Rocketman wrote:Supernovas shine brighter than entire galaxies of a hundred billion stars. Then why call it a supernova without making any kind of qualifier.rereboy wrote:DB doesn`t need to be just like the real world in its science. DB only has 4 galaxies after all. Yeah, in fiction everything works just like in the real world unless it's stated not to.Rocketman wrote:rereboy wrote:Then why call it a supernova without making any kind of qualifier.

You need to get out of that mentality that the Dragon World works just like the real world. This is the same series in which Kame-sennin destroys the moon with a Kamehameha.Rocketman wrote:Then why call it a supernova without making any kind of qualifier.rereboy wrote:DB doesn`t need to be just like the real world in its science. DB Earth's Moon is much smaller and closer than our Moon.Piccolo Daimao wrote:You need to get out of that mentality that the Dragon World works just like the real world. This is the same series in which Kame-sennin destroys the moon with a Kamehameha.

Even if that's so (I'm gonna ignore it, the whole thing with the rabbits on the moon is a gag scene anyway), why can't supernovas work differently? You always seem to apply science to something Toriyama (and obviously, the staff behind DBO) never even thought about.Rocketman wrote:DB Earth's Moon is much smaller and closer than our Moon.Piccolo Daimao wrote:You need to get out of that mentality that the Dragon World works just like the real world. Because when you call something a term that exists without qualification, you're saying it is the same as the real use of that term.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Even if that's so (I'm gonna ignore it, the whole thing with the rabbits on the moon is a gag scene anyway), why can't supernovas work differently?
If I write, say, "Pan plays with a kitten", are you automatically going to assume I mean the Kraken from Clash of the Titans (2010) because "well why can't 'kitten' mean a giant sea monster in db its crazy time moon destruction herp derp"?
