I've always thought of Toriyama more as Senbei from Dr. Slump than Goku. When Toriyama draws himself he even looks kinda like Senbei. He probably does share some traits with Goku though; I think that's a natural thing that many authors do whether their conscious of it or not.

Didn't Toriyama say he regarded himself similar to Roshi?

I simply think as an artist, he wasn't interested in showing that side of his characters. None of them really show that side of themselves. Even Gohan's relationship with Videl isn't delved into that much. I don't recall even seeing them kiss. I'm sure they did, just not on camera.

As for Goku being not all that intelligent, he isn't but it's by upbringing and choice. He grew up away from civilization, and was likely only taught how to survive, fight and communicate verbally by Son Gohan. Maybe a few other things about the outside world, but not much. I think he had the capacity to learn, but his interests weren't in anything academic. He liked to push himself physically and that's where he put his mental and physical efforts. As is shown throughout the series, Goku is a VERY intelligent fighter. I'd say he's a fighting genius. The only times he was bested in battle were when his opponent was stronger, not because they were better tacticians.

Goku is Toriyama as a kid.

About Suno, isn't she with #8 at the end of the series?!

No, he's an android, and completely synthetic. I'm not sure what would make you think they were together.

I'm pretty sure Toriyama has admitted that he himself is a pervert.

Actually, a chart of the androids in the manga says he's built from a human base, just like #17 and #18.

Besides, who says a girl can't love a robot?

I think they're just friends. There's no suggestion of romantic context. Plus he's uh, not quite as good-looking as 17/18 were.
Sean Schemmel is THE MAN! :)

Me- "Also, before anyone mentions it, Schemmel's interview was from nearly 15 years ago. He paid a brief visit to Kanzenshuu's forums a few years back and earned legendary respect that cancels out anything he said from that long ago. :D"

Given that he looks like Frankenstein's monster, I'd say it's pretty disgusting. Also, I remember the chart I think you are referring to, and I don't remember it saying he was anything other than synthetic.

1 - GT isn't canon, and
2 - Touching him like that can still be platonic, and finally
3 - She had to touch him so Goku could teleport them off the planet.

What Toriyama writes is canon. I'm not sure why you got the silly idea that there's no canon in Dragon Ball.

Says who? Has Toriyama, or someone from Shueisha or Toei ever said that "canon is whatever Toriyama wrote"? Like Fox666 said, there is not an official canon for Dragon Ball. You can have a personal canon for yourself only, but you can't say that the movies, filers, GT, or DBO are non-canon, because none of them are not canon, or are canon.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

This begs the question, "what do you think canon means?"

All roads lead to Rome, family dinner talks always lead to politics, on Kanzenshuu everything leads to canon questions.
