Seems like Toriyama watched that movie, since he usually took inspiration from movies he watched.
I thought that Goku being sent to destroy the Earh instead was what he intended in order to make it different from Superman in the first place? Now he retconned just to take that out in favour of copying it? Either he forgotten that element or superman oddly inspired him more recently than prior.
