Why does the SSJ4 design get so much hate by fans?

I'm fine with the form. It's personally in my top 3 of forms. While i agree the color of the fur comes out of no where, it doesn't bother me enough to not like it.

SSJ4 isn't really hated. It's more positively received I believe than negative. It also deserves the title of god a thousand times more than either of the new colour forms.

If it ever gets incorporated into Super, I'm dropping out of the fandom for another decade. Or at least sulking whenever it appears onscreen.

I agree with this.
Its just so different from whatever form of the Saiyans to the point they dont look like the characters anymore... (Vegeta is the more recognizable of the two because of the front hair style but still...)
Also why do the shirts wear off?

There's no natural progession between it and the previous super saiyan forms.

Not really worse than pure hearts dying hair red or people losing eyebrows through transforming but immediately growing them back by reverting, I'd say.

Maybe Super Saiyajin 4 could be called "Lunar Super Saiyajin".

It's so different, in such a bad way. It's not just ugly, it doesn't fit either Goku or Vegeta's personalities. They're two middle-aged+ warriors, not young heavy metal rockers. Their SSJ4 forms look like they should be carrying electric guitars and screaming into mics.

Agreed. Not sure where these prerequisites are coming from. Besides these are labelled as transformations above all, not just a power up like a zenkai or Kaio-Ken.

The fanbase goes back and forth all the time with it. Some who claim to hate it would have just rathered the same thing gold for their SSJGod.
Most people mock it just because its apart of GT and it somehow is perpetually worse than anything done now.
People also look for reasons to hate it by reaching on anything they can make a problem. Like clothing materialization and things not GT-created in the series.

It is probably my least favourite Saiyan transformation but Goku was the only one who I thought rocked Super Saiyan 4 well, Gogeta looked okay but Vegeta looked flat out horrible. I think they should have gone with the gold hair or fur or both like that SSG fan art that made the rounds, the red was kind of random, given the fact Goku was a Golden giant ape monkey beforehand and the fact that back then the signature colour of the Super Saiyan was Gold.

Seeing how Goku and Vegeta have God powers even that hair colour could have a decent explanation. Even if not. It is not more random than red and blue hair for God forms.
