I thought the irony was that people underestimated him because he is a low level saiyan sent to a low level planet but he still manage to beat them. Or that a lower class Saiyan becomes the strongest? See, the irony is not lost.

The point is that he was sent to a low level planet to destroy it because he was a low level saiyan (and a baby to boot)... but it's changed to him being sent cuz his parents wuved him. That really throws the entire "low-level reject" aspect of the dramatic irony into the air.

That's one of my biggest issues with Minus. That was a truly great aspect, that Goku was sent to destroy Earth, but instead ended up its protector, and now he's a Superman rip-off.

People still underestimate him because he was sent to earth. That didn't and wouldn't change. There is still irony in the way they treat him. You guys are really going hysterical over nothing. I think you guys are really trying to push your opinion as fact. You know what, I'm glad they change it like this. It rejects the notion that all Saiyans are the same war mongering dumdum that people are expecting. Instead they manage to add more character to the one dimensional badass Bardock.

To ask what's worse is implying that both are bad to begin with, which I don't think they are. Besides, I don't believe they are even comparable.

Although I'll say that Minus was disappointing and uneventful.

Toriyama probably didn't put as much thought in it as you guys. It's easy to brush off some details because the minus manga is just a sidenote anyway. The main point behind it was introducing Gine with her Meatstick clobbering skills.

Besides Goku probably was already planned to go to a week planet, Bardock just stole a pod to make sure it happened a little sooner.

And he is still a reject. Looks like you're the one who doesn't get it. You know what the story in Minus is much more logical if you think about what happen. He was safe because his father felt the danger that's coming. In the TV special what happened? It was all a coincidence.

Yes, the irony changed. Goku was sent to Earth to destroy it and ended up being its greatest champion and savior, which is pretty much an anti-Superman story and immensely ironic. With minus, Goku is sent to Earth mostly so that he can be safe and escape a possible terrible fate, which is no longer an anti-Superman story, it's actually the Superman story, and a great deal of irony is lost due to that. That's just lame...

Instead of coming to Earth because he was weak and nobody cared for him at all, he comes to Earth because his parents want to spare him, and only him, of the fate they're gonna suffer, how cute and cuddly.

If I were to take a neutral stance on Dragon Ball Minus, on one hand I would say that it is certainly more logical and makes a whole lot more sense from an in-universe perspective than the TV special. And on the other hand, well, Gaffer Tape explained everything that was wrong with Dragon Ball Minus pretty damn well.

Now we're going to this Superman nonsense. If you think that making it an anti-Superman story would make it good, that's just your opinion. A show like Dragon Ball can in fact stand on its own without having to be an antithesis of the Superman story or origin. Just because he has an origin story almost the same as Superman doesn't make the story bad. And there's a lot of irony in this story. Making one specific irony obsolete doesn't suddenly make the Minus lame.

I read all of the post and again there's a lot of irony in Dragon Ball losing one when there are people that never made the connection in the first place and thinking it became lame because of that is pretty horrid.
