What's the best anime u watched and how it compares to DBZ?
Re: What's the best anime u watched and how it compares to D
I have four that all have a possibility of being my favorite so I'll just list them lol: For me, it's a tie between Hajime No Ippo, Hokuto No Ken and Inuyasha. I mainly like the first three because they all have really amazing male protagonists that I feel that I can relate to as they go through different struggles in their respective. Maybe it's because I'm young but I feel that I can relate to these characters. It's really hard to decide which one I like the best because they all do something different for me. They're definitely as important to me as Dragon Ball is

The best for me is Dragon Ball.
Second is Saint Seiya (Lost Canvas was the best part).
Third is Street Fighter Victory (this one could be the best, but it only had 29 episodes)
And another one who I liked a lot... To Love Ru. It's an Ecchi anime with tons of very beautiful girls and a simply history.

I forgot to put FMA (the original 2003 series) in here when I first made this. It's probably my favorite anime of all time honestly. Dragon Ball can't compare though.Bansho64 wrote:I have four that all have a possibility of being my favorite so I'll just list them lol: For me, it's a tie between Hajime No Ippo, Hokuto No Ken and Inuyasha. Favorite anime is kaito kid, by far..
Seconded by the Dragonball series..
No other anime comes close to these, and I have watched a shit ton of them..
Well if you want to count ecchi harem anime too, hagure yuusha no estetica and kaze no stigma are in their own league for these genres..

After reading some more stuff, I'd say the best I've read/watched are Fate Zero and Fullmetal Alchemist. Needless to say, DB doesn't really hold a candle to them except maybe in the villain department. Father is no Freeza or Black.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Naoki Urasawa's Monster was one of the best I've ever seen. Its so suspenseful and it kept me coming back to see how it would turn out.
Monster and Dragon Ball are not even in the same league.

FMA, kill la kill and Hunter x Hunter are my favourites for different reasons and they're better imo. I mostly watch dragon ball because I'm fond of few characters like trunks, piccolo and vegeta
Re: What's the best anime u watched and how it compares to DBZ?
I'm actually kinda glad to see so many FMA fans here!
One of the reasons I'd probably put FMA (2003 or 2009) is because of the emotional wringer that it puts the viewer through. It's a whole different ballpack compared to Dragon Ball, but I feel that Dragon Ball rarely ever came close to making me feel the same emotions that scenes like these do.

The best anime I've watched is Cowboy Bebop. Downright brilliant in every way. Steve Blum gives probably the greatest performance of his career. Other anime I like are Inuyasha, FMA, Death Note, Black Lagoon, Ranma 1/2, Yu Yu Hakusho, some Gundam and many more...

I don't know which I consider the best, but without going into excessive detail here's a few that I like way more than Dragon Ball :-
Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Fullmetal Alchemist: Strong scripts, superb acting(Japanese cast), effective music and sound effects and really wonderful direction and animation. A very strong show on a storytelling front overall.
Shin Seiki Evangelion: A masterpiece. Anno Hideaki is a master of his craft and his boarding and direction is nothing short of outstanding. I love the characters. There's a sense of maturity and depth which Anno excels at. Iso Mitsuo's scene is one of the most influential and inspiring pieces of animation which I'll never ever ever ever forget.
Yuu Yuu Hakusho: The production value for this series was surprisingly fantastic. It hit all the right beats for me. Wakabayashi Atsushi and Shinbo Akiyuki combo episodes were great and the highlight of the series. As many fans say, it is Dragon Ball Z done right.
Naruto: Interesting premise and for the most part interesting characters. But, more importantly it receives a lot of love from the staff something Dragon Ball would've been very lucky to get. A long running cartoon that managed to nail all its key moments is an achievement. Overall, a very good show in terms of storytelling.
Hibike! Euphonium: It's a KyoAni series and as always it's outstanding in every department. A SoL, musical show that gives more emphasis to visual storytelling and it is a spectacle. I haven't even watched Eupho 2 and from what I've heard it is even better.
One Punch Man: A perfect example of a simple story told in the most interesting and entertaining way possible. Natsume Shingo and his trusted team of animators knocked it out of the park. Not just animation and direction, it has good characters too. Genos is awesome.
Casshern Sins: Compelling story and it's impact is increased 10x cause of Yama'uchi Shigeyasu's poetic direction.
Pocket Monsters:Diamond and Pearl: I was disappointed with the franchise until DP happened. Asada, Tomioka and Iwane deserve most of the credit for the increase in quality. They turned the anime from poor to great single-handedly. Also, Satoshi got a personality so bonus points for that.
Mob Psycho 100, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Space Dandy are also pretty strong storytelling wise.
There are more, but I'm forgetting and it'll be a very long post. Dragon Ball has its moments. The Kikuchi score and Japanese voice cast is brilliant. But in terms of storytelling, it is average.

Dragonball/Z/Kai/Super will always be my number 1 i group them all as Dragonball, FairyTail is a very enjoyable series for me and definitely #2, besides this i really like sword art online, one piece, hunter x hunter, bleach, grimgar of fantasy and ash, fate stay night ubw, yu-yu-hakusho, and rurouni kenshin. If you have not seen those last 3 on my list what are you waiting for. :/

DB done perfectly would be its fights with Naruto's characters and One Piece's world.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:Yuu Yuu Hakusho is Dragon Ball Z done right.

Re: What's the best anime u watched and how it compares to DBZ?
I have watched a lot of animes but since i am just recently done with Hunter X Hunter, and if i had to compare the two, i would rate HXH a perfect 10 and DBZ a 4, DBS a 1,5.
Story/Plot: Hunter X Hunter without a doubt
Characters: Hunter X Hunter certainly has the deeper, better written characters but DBZ has icons on their side. Overall, I'd say this is a draw since it really just depends on which way you want to judge.
Animation: Hunter X Hunter easily again.
dragonball is dragonball it's so fun to watch, but you have to turn your brain off espescially in the Buu saga
And to me hunter x hunter has a much more interesting universe and the powerscalling isn't all that terrible at all.

I'd say the characters and the world of One Piece is basically Dragon Ball done perfectly.sintzu wrote:DB done perfectly would be its fights with Naruto's characters and One Piece's world.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:Yuu Yuu Hakusho is Dragon Ball Z done right.

Sasuke has always been on Naruto's level of importance to the point where he went on his own adventures and fought his own villains which is somthing I can't say about Vegeta and Zoro, Naruto's secondary characters get more focus than One Piece's and Naruto's villains feel a lot more important and impactful than One Piece's.Lord Beerus wrote:I'd say the characters and the world of One Piece is basically Dragon Ball done perfectly.
Don't get me wrong, Both DB and One Piece have really good characters and they all get to shine in one way or another but for me Naruto's come out on top but I just started the thriller bark arc in One Piece and DB is still ongoing so that could change for me later.

Am I the only one not crazy about Yu Yu Hakusho? It feels too... standard McDefault shonen for me, I guess?

The 1st 3 arcs were great and among my favorite anime arcs but the last one fell apart because he was having trouble with jump and his health.ekrolo2 wrote:Am I the only one not crazy about Yu Yu Hakusho? It feels too... standard McDefault shonen for me, I guess?

I've gotten to the Dark Tournament arc so far and honestly, I liked the stuff with Yusuke being a ghost a lot more than the Shonen-y parts later on. With the ghost stuff, Yusuke dealing with things by being either an asshole with a heart of gold or just a plain asshole were a lot more engaging to me than the current fight-y stuff.sintzu wrote:The 1st 3 arcs were great and among my favorite anime arcs but the last one fell apart because he was having trouble with jump and his health.ekrolo2 wrote:Am I the only one not crazy about Yu Yu Hakusho? It also doesn't help that the setting is just standard Japan so far, Jojo has a standard Britain setting for Phantom Blood (that's what I've read of JoJo so far) but it makes up for it with its sheer lunacy.

I don't think it's very good, either. I think it gets the same treatment as DB being that it's looked at fondly because of nostalgia, but it doesn't get criticized as much since it's not getting any new material which makes people go back and take a second look.ekrolo2 wrote:Am I the only one not crazy about Yu Yu Hakusho? I haven't read a lot of it but you are right about things being brought back prompting some reevaluation, look how many SW prequel videos/articles being made now that TFA and Rogue One have spurned peoples' interests.Doctor. wrote:I don't think it's very good, either.
