The YYH 2-disc rereleases only have Japanese & English, no Spanish.SonGokuGT wrote: And just to clarify that's on the YYH re-releases? The 2 disc sets?
Seems like FUNi is really looking to include the South American market!
I know this since I have the 1st set, and have preordered set 2.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
I don't know. I guess that's the true test. The redub for Dead Zone basically used the old Pioneer/Geneon script(which is good, because it was accurate in the first place), so maybe the redub for Tree of Might will use the uncut script.BoxerGloves wrote:Doubt it. After comparing the recent FUNi redub and the original Pioneer dub of the Dead Zone, it's clearly obvious that the FUNi re-redub the movie # 3 is gonna be the same piece of crap dub as the initial Saban/FUNimation edited-for-TV version of it.Ranma wrote:I predict that the FUNi redub for Tree of Might will be better than the TV dub for Tree of Might.
I thought the redub for Dead Zone was fine. I liked Ocean's dub better, but this wasn't bad.
Hmm...

No, no. Not what I meant. My fault, I should have been clearer with my last post. I just meant that English isn't the only language that Yuu Yuu Hakusho has been dubbed in.SonGokuGT wrote:And just to clarify that's on the YYH re-releases? No, the redub script wasn't faithful and well-written as the Pioneer dub script. At all. I noticed several changes that were made to the script in the Dead Zone redub, which made the redub deviate from the original Japanese version on more than one occasion. And that included FUNimation's "standard" punching up and Americanization of the dialogue. For instance, when Piccolo speaks at the begining, in the Pioneer dub he says "Goku, this time I'm going to finish you off for good." But in the FUNimation redub he says "Goku, this time I'm gonna wipe the map with your face." Also, there were numerous instances of extraneous dialogue, which was added in the redub, which wasn't there in the original Japanese version. Not only that, but the music in the redub was changed too. And most of the time, it didn't fit the scenes, or completely failed to capture the emotion of the scenes. For instance, when Piccolo confronts Sansho (one of Garlic Jr's minions), the Japanese version had a dramatic and fast paced orchestral music playing. But in the redub, there was this annoying and slow music playing, which can only be described as something that should only be played at a funeral. On the other hand, Pioneer dub made no such distinction, and stayed close and accurate to the original version all the way. Unlike FUNimation, Pioneer was gracious enough to allow us, American fans, to enjoy their English dub of Dead Zone (along with the movie # 2 and # 3) the way Japanese fans did, in every aspect possible. That's including retaining of the original Japanese soundtrack, accurate script, and top notch voice-acting by the Ocean Group VA's. So with that said, I'm not looking forward to any of the FUNi redubs of the movies 2 and 3.Ranma wrote:I don't know. I guess that's the true test. Okay, did the redub change some things from the uncut script? Yes, this is fact. However, generally, they kept mostly to the Pioneer/Geneon script. They could have easily changed the whole thing and made inaccurate but, they didn't.BoxerGloves wrote:No, the redub script wasn't faithful and well-written as the Pioneer dub script. At all. Yes, the dub music wasn't great. At times, I forgot it was even there. But, it wasn't as loud or overbearing as when FUNi put rock music in the other movies. I would have prefered they kept the Japanese music, but what's done, done.
I personally am looking forward to the redubs.

Though, I have been unable to find any used copies of Pioneers Movie 2 or 3 so I'm looking forward to, at least, seeing the Japanese versions for the first time.
But if I had found my current copy of Pioneers Deadzone BEFORE I bought the redub, I would have never bought the fricken redub. Now I have two copies. One of which gathers dust.

Um, Thank You.That post is like poetry...I want to hug you.
Although Pioneer DVDs of the first three movies are out of print now, you can still find them fairly easily at used movie rentals. If not, then you can still get them cheap (2nd hand) from third party sellers on Amazon, just pay via credit card. I strongly recommend that you do check out the Pioneer dubs of The World's Strongest (that's movie #2) and Tree of Might (#3). After you've seen them for yourself, I don't think you'll even be needing to see the rest of the FUNi redubs. Just like the Dead Zone redub, they're only gonna induce more headache to you.Though, I have been unable to find any used copies of Pioneers Movie 2 or 3 so I'm looking forward to, at least, seeing the Japanese versions for the first time.

This is just great, now I will have three Dead Zone movies, if I get this Box Set, seeing as I have Pioneer's version & FUNimation's Ultimate Uncut version. I'm thinking about just sticking with Pioneer's Dead Zone product and selling the FUNimation Ultimate Uncut because, at least to me, the Pioneer version is head over heals better. Not only does their script follow the Japanese version more closely, but it also has the character voice's I grew up watching.
I don't know why, but with Pioneer, it seemed as if the Z Warrior's were in their teenage/puberty years, because when FUNimation took over, most of the voices became more adult like. I like that because I think it reflects people in everyday life. We start out with little kiddy voices (DragonBall), progress over time to high-pitched voices (Beginning of DragonBall Z), they mature into young adults (DragonBall Z Frieza Saga/Garlic Junior Saga), and finally into their adult form (End of DragonBall Z). I would include DragonBall GT, but don't feel like it. To make it less confusing, if it was:
DragonBall (FUNimation) - Kid Voices
Beginning of DragonBall Z (Pioneer) - High-pitch Voices
DragonBall Z Freeza Saga/Garlic Junior Saga (FUNimation) - Young Adult Voices
End of DragonBall Z (FUNimation) - Adult Voices
So, all in all, now that I posted that, I’m thinking about saving my $29.99, and just sticking to Pioneer’s version.
Off-Topic: Within the past week, I finally was able to get my hands on the DragonBall Movie Box Set. Although, now I have two Path to Power Movies. I guess it was worth it, seeing as I now have completed my DragonBall Movie Collection. Now all I need is #13 for DragonBall Z, and that Movie Collection will be completed as well.

Anyway, this is good news for me. The only ones I have are the terrible UK dubs.

I bought Dead Zone used at EB for $5.
I saw Tree of Might, but it was $10, and in really crappy condition, so I didn't get it, which I regret now, but... meh.
I'm so gonna get this though, just for 2 and 3, and having a spare movie 1 won't totally suck.
Dub voices don't really concern me, though I heard there was a commentary track on movie 1, which I really want to listen to, so yay?

Well, I guess I'm one of the lucky (I guess you can say) that didn't buy the Movie 1 redub when it came out...so this will definately save me money.
But I am disappointed however, that I haven't really heard the old dubs for these three movies in a long time..and I was a little kid back when they showed em on CN..so I don't really remember what they sound like.

Actually, Netflix discountinued the Pioneer discs of the DBZ Movies 1-3, as well as the dubbed Seasons 1 & 2. *it sucks*Mayuri Furiza Kurotsuchi wrote:If you guys want to know where to find the original dubs, just check on movie rental sites like netflix. I have the pioneere dvd releases of the first three movies, and the only way I would ever rebuy them is if i could get then in widescreen, and in japanese ofcource.
In that case, try looking up the Japanse movie Dragon Boxes. You'll get no English subs whatsoever, but the picture quality is pretty damn amazing.
