Actually I don't think that any voice is good at all, I mean they aren't really Goku. Goku's voice in the japanese version is clearly the best. In the english dubs Goku sounds so americanized.

But you can't really expect an English voice to be at all similar to a Japanese one. The idea is to compare the English voices to one another and judge them on their own merits, not compare them to a whole different language/culture.

What I mean is that Goku's voice really doesn't fit. But still it doesn't suck. I mean, just look at He-Man Goku. He makes Schemmel and the other sound like they were born to act Goku's voice. But that's a personal thought. Something like that.

I wish I could find you guys English clips of how Goku was dubbed here in the Philippines...but I don't remember his voice as adult Goku (in English) though. But as far as I know, one guy voiced all versions of Goku here (even young Goku.)

Critiques of the voices...I agree how pronouncing "Kaioken" correctly gave major plus points to Peter Kelamis  Also his voice is higher in pitch than the others, although it does give a certain strain...

The whole Kaioken/Kamehameha confusion from the UK dub reminds me of the one episode where Goku's ship was on a collision course with a star, and in the original Funimation dub they had him incorrectly use Kaioken instead of Kamehameha. -_- It was like "KAI......OH......KEN......TIMES.....3!!!!!", or something similar.

Once again, that isn't as bad as Vegeta's "Kameyameyah"... or Gohan's "Magic Bean" Masenko. I'll try and find a link. If not, I'll have to try and find a way of connecting my video player to this computer. :?

Great video, I think my favourite part was "Come magic cloud!". As for my favourite voice actor, I guess it has to be Sean Schemmel, since he's the voice I hear almost everyday on DBZ.

COME MAGIC CLOUD!

But he has to be americanized, otherwise FUNi will lose its "Japan is the gay crowd" that watches the series so much. The fact there has been so many people that grew up watching the dub, that for some its hard to make a transition from Dub to Sub for whatever reason/excuse there may be. I'm just happy we even get subbed DBZ for FUNi (with good subtitles to boot). You basically have two different audiences (& two different DBZs) that at this point, It's basically pointless to repair some of the damages the dubs may have so done. I agree that it isn't exactly Son Goku, but rather a completely different Son Goku (& a different type of DBZ) that works for the audience its intended for.

You can't say this and not post a clip of it.
I made a 3 minute clip of odd lines from the dub. Its pretty funny. Tien's UK VA sounds like hes doing a bad Yoda impersonation . Yea its really that bad. Iam going to post it tommorow before 12 on You tube. I don't know if I'll make a post about it. I might.

Ok, first off the Malaysian dub Goku sounds way too weird. And Vegeta...'Combine?!'

Now I'm amazed when I heard Kirby Morrow's. I really don't remember him screaming like that when I watched that episode (on YTV). Either Alberta's getting a different dub or I pretty suck at remembering things. But I actually thought his screaming was pretty good. It actually sounded natural.

Ian Corlett's was a good one too. I liked how his voice was somewhat low and more natural. Peter Kelamis' high pitched screams didn't work for me

Schemmel's voiceover of Goku has stuck with me over the last few years, and yeah, he's really improved. As far as I'm concerned, he's a kickass Goku.

And He-Goku...COME MAGIC CLOUD.....that's the funniest line I've ever heard in a dub. I don't care about any of the old DBZ dub stuff (Though I dont' think I'll forget 'I can see their parachutes! They're ok!'), this stuff beats 'em all!

'I know it's very hard for you, but please help me! Do it quickly!'

I'd just like to add that I absolutely loved the omnipotent Ian Corlett's performance. I feel he indulges in the best of Goku English VAs... best Goku English Interpretation. Ever. He mingles the pleasantly youthful tones of the Seiyuu with the coarse tones of Schemmel for a flawless blend in my eyes. The sheer might of his performance truly dwarfs Schemmel's best musterings.... whom I still feel is overall a good Goku VA, disregarding the character. Peter Kelamis also was stellar, but the accent always irked me to no end.

As for the clip... horrid. Even the FUNimation dub sounds bounds better by comparison, and to me that alone speaks volumes on the matter.

That is all.

This is the proof!
I wonder if it would be possible to use He-Man's "I..........HAVE..............THE..........POWWWER!!!!!!" line, and combine it with the scene from the movie # 3, where Goku prepares to fire the Genki Dama, or the Spirit Bomb? That'd be even more hilarious.

Ian Corlett is still my favorite english Goku of all time. I thought he was as absolutely perfect as an English Adaptation could get.

Though, when I heard Kirby Morrow for the first time in that clip, it reminded me a lot of Ian's performance, and I really enjoyed it! He's my new second favorite English Goku.

Peter Kelamis delivers well performance-wise, but his accent is just...overbearing. I don't like it for Goku but I still like him better than Sean Schemmel, who I think altered the character far too much to the point where he simply...wasn't Goku anymore. I really can't stand Sean Schemmel's performance as Goku.

And the rest...need no mention.

Actors are artists and so they try to make a character their own. Also if the Japanese and English actors sound differently isn't all bad. Look at One Piece where both the Japanese and English voice actors of Luffy speak with about the same high pitch, and that hasn't gone over well with people.
