More set up and lore. Interested to see the story does with new background for the Glind, formerly known as the Shinjin. This episode was quite slow and felt very reminiscent of GT.
The Jackie Chan-esque fight scene was engaging enough but I rather see fights where the opponent can actually push back. Hopefully it gets there soon.

I continue to enjoy the hell out of this show. Yes, the plot progression thus far is perhaps a tad more deliberate than would typically be expected from Toriyama's work, but that's fine! What matters is that it's entertaining throughout. Goku is still a total goofball, and the star wars cantina bar fight was a lot of fun.
This soundtrack is pretty heavy on JRPG vibes and somewhat reminds me of GT's. That's a compliment. I may not be a GT fan, but it's got one of my favorite scores in the franchise.
I wish the previews were longer, if only because I always find myself excited for whatever's next.

Man... I don't want to complain, but Goku feels dialed up to 11. Like they forgot this isn't actually Kid Goku, or are hoping fans forget he's 40+ so they don't complain like they did with Super.
On a positive note, it's a very visually appealing show.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
I'm excited to see what happens next, Chibi Goku always cracks me up. And Shin is becoming likeable, somehow. I'm enjoying all the GT nods and I look forward to seeing more of that
I welcome the new lore, I assume there's a purpose behind it, but if there isn't, I hope there are no loose ends left by the time everything is said and done.

Yes, I got the same impression so far but in all fairness it was just this episode. I hope it was just today's scriptwriter and the characterization doesn't stick.fadeddreams5 wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 9:53 pm Man... I don't want to complain, but Goku feels dialed up to 11. Every episode has insofar been written by Kakihara Yuuko. Additionally, Kakihara is credited in the Opening credits as not simply シリーズ構成—which is what Toei Animation usually uses—but シリーズ構成・脚本—Series Composition and Script—which implies that Kakihara is writing every single episode.Yuji wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 11:17 pmYes, I got the same impression so far but in all fairness it was just this episode. Given that Toriyama supposedly was very involved with the script writing, I wouldn't be surprised if this was all on him. Dragon Ball Daima is Kakihara's first time writing for Dragon Ball.
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
He's probably still not used to using his techniques properly because of his deaged body. When Vegeta first used instant teleportation in the DBS manga after the Yadrats taught him. He ended up in the wrong place. So I suspect the same thing might happen to Goku if he tries it in his current state. There's a chance Goku might use it in the next ep.AliTheZombie13 wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 5:13 pm So uh... any explanation as to why Goku doesn't just teleport to the thieves?
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
The episode flies by even if a whole lot doesn't happen! The Demon World level 3 is really beautiful and interesting. It really is a new world. I really, really love the use of colors. The smooth animation during action scenes. The fact that Goku is eating while fighting is pretty neat. And little touches like Goku touching the plant in the lobby. Solid stuff when it comes to writing and animation.
I am not so fan of the background music, though, specially not during the action scene in the bar.

I think this series is probably taking the most inspiration from the initial hunt for the Dragon Balls. A road trip where we spend most of our time going to new places and meeting a variety of weird colorful characters. Only instead of bandits, magic rabbits, and transforming pigs we get ogres and orcs. I'm excited to see the new character designs. I also loved the ending. Apparently Gloria can shoot his way out of a bar fight, but can't get a decent lock on his vehicle.
We need a Steve Simmons' re-translation of the manga.

That's three episodes in a row where they spend a lot of the runtime with lore dumps it's kind of getting tiring.

The fight choreography in this episode is fun and funny. Using the plates as shields and weapons. Forcing down burgers in between swings.

I think the way how Warp-sama is a gate way to other worlds is probably how Goku Black and Zamasu travel to other universes in the future timeline.

I've been thinking about it, and I think the fight scene really lacked an element where Gokuu is getting his ass-kicked. I hope we get a fight scene like that soon, because it'll definitely make the fights feel more engaging.

If anything, I hope they don't bring back the old joke of, "Oh no, looks like Goku is knocked out. Is this the end of our hero- Ha ha, just kidding, Goku was just hungry. Now he'll fight FOR REAL!!!! (effortlessly kicks the bad guy's ass)"JulieYBM wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 1:46 pm I've been thinking about it, and I think the fight scene really lacked an element where Gokuu is getting his ass-kicked. That's not really fun, either. Like, maybe if Gokuu had to take a shit or something, because that's actually something that would feasibly make Gokuu weaker—and is relatable—but I definitely prefer the age old "He's winning the fight, but damned if he isn't getting the hell kicked out of him."AliTheZombie13 wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 1:47 pmIf anything, I hope they don't bring back the old joke of, "Oh no, looks like Goku is knocked out. It's been three episodes, and literally Goku's first encounter with anyone in a fight. The idea that he should already be thrown in a life-and-death battle seems kind of....dumb?
It's a fight meant to be on the more comedic side, hence the Jackie Chan influenced choreography. Will we get a more intense battle? Maybe. But good lord do I not want Daima to turn into Super 2. More than okay with this doing some different.

Not to mention that you have to ease into the ass kicking first.
Right now, Goku's at the top of the world despite having to adjust to so many new changes after being fresh from defeating Majin Buu.
Gotta build up and lay down really challenging foes later on, showing how much of an OCP he is compared to the average Demons living in the 3 worlds.

Those Jackie Chan fights involve him getting his ass beat as a comedic element, though. That's what I'm saying is missing from this fight: yeah, Gokuu is winning, but he's still taking hits.kemuri07 wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 3:29 pm It's been three episodes, and literally Goku's first encounter with anyone in a fight.
