THREAD/DISCUSSION INFORMATION
Q: What is this thread?
A: This is the singular/dedicated discussion thread for Dragon Ball Daima episode 3. All content regarding this specific episode would be great to include here in this thread, rather than a dedicated / larger / all-encompassing ongoing thread. Posts that are specific to this individual episode in another thread with no relevance to the larger series or discussion taking place there will be reported and/or removed.
Q: When will this thread open?
A: This thread will be opened by a Kanzenshuu moderator when the episode is available to watch, through official channels, in its entirety.
Q: What is the history behind a [blank]-specific discussion thread?
A: We established episode-specific discussion threads beginning with Dragon Ball Kai in 2009, followed by the Dragon Ball Super television series in 2015. These episode-specific threads allowed people to discuss just that: those specific episodes, without being interrupted by other discussions regarding general production, promotion, etc. This is in contrast to, for example, other things on our website like our podcast reviews, which generally tackle story arcs as complete wholes.
Q: OK, but... so what's the point?
A: At Kanzenshuu we believe in history and preservation. It is worthwhile to future versions of ourselves and entirely new future fans to be able to dig back and find real-time reactions to specific productions (such as a specific episode or chapter). It's much easier to do this when the discussions are separated into these unique threads.
Q: When will new threads be created?
A: Threads for new/upcoming episodes will be created by a Kanzenshuu administrator at an appropriate point in time. Please do not attempt to create episode discussion threads of your own.
Q: What kinds of "sources" can we discuss?
A: You can discuss whatever you want, so long as it lives up to the community guidelines. It is recommended that you link to / discuss actual sources of information, rather than second-hand accounts. Random Twitter users are not "sources" of information. Shueisha has its own official Dragon Ball website and weekly news broadcast on YouTube, and then there is of course Dragon Ball Daima's own official website, which will in all likelihood be your actual primary sources of information leading up to an episode’s release.
Q: What if I have something to say about another episode that's not this episode?
A: Is what you have to say/ask/post even tangentially related to this episode? That's fine. Does it have absolutely nothing to do with this episode? Post it elsewhere. These episode-specific threads do not automatically close after a new episode comes out; you are free to keep discussing a specific episode for as long as you all feel like talking about it.
Q: How does this relate to [insert example here]? Why isn't [insert example here] lining up with [insert example here] from [insert example here]?
A: We don't know! We're all learning along the way! Maybe everything counts! Maybe nothing counts! Maybe only certain things count!

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
So shin is a glind which is from the demon realm. Man everybody and their mom will soon be from this realm. Toriyama sure had an obsession with demons it seems.
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
The television series is about the demon realm in Dragon Ball, of course a lot of characters are going to be from that realm.
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
Episode was very entertaining. It made me hunger for more. Happy the thugs stole the spaceship, means we're having a road trip!
The bar fight was pretty cool.
Guess the lore about Kaioshins being born from the tree and stuff is null now. Now it makes sense the spaceship Kaioshin has.
But how did he went from the Demon Real to one of the highest Gods? I really hope they explain the process.

So Shin is a Glind or something. Plot hole gets even worse.
The whole Tree thing makes no sense. And why should Hounds of the demon world become deities in the outer world?

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
Yeah I’m not liking that either. Demons shouldn’t have the ability to do that. I’m really hoping daima is just like an alternate tale like GT and doesn’t tie into super.Soba Mask wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 1:39 pm So Shin is a Glind or something. Plot hole gets even worse.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
Another good episode
- I thought the goldfish joke was pretty weak and got old really fast
- So the Demon World is split into 3 other worlds that I guess go from the least developed to high royalty? That's interesting
- The Dabura statue really reminds me of Goku’s from the final episode of GT, probably a nod to that
- What the F is a 'Glind'? Is that the name of the Kaioshin race?
- And finally, we got an Eyecatch! Kind of weird it’s only in the third episode, but whatever
- Now I get why Toriyama seems more pumped than usual to tell this story: all that sense of adventure, exploring unknown territory with a totally new environment and new creatures, maybe that’s the kind of story and setting he loves to present
- I was about to complain about the lack of action until the bar scene; good to know Glorio can hold his own in a fight and that Goku can handle those brutes easily
- The OST is still the biggest weak point of Daima so far
- So they stole Glorio's plane? That also sounds like another nod to GT (being stuck somewhere because of transport issues)
- NEP is just a few seconds of action from the next episode; I miss Goku narrating what’s coming up, but I admit it’s nice to have less detail and more anticipation for what’s next

Just finished watching the episode on Viu TV and realized I can take screenshots on their app. Anyone know a good spot to upload screenshots of the new eyecatches?

dident liked this episode so much. felt like a transitional episode to establish the arrival and intrudoction to the demon realm. i dont like those kind of episodes. i get it they taking it all slow but we know this series will be 20 something episodes so i rather they will have faster pacing

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
Good:
- The air is heavy! Yay, limitations!
- Dragon Ball is bringing back the furries, that's neat.
Bad:
- This was another very slow episode. Little happened except explaining the Demon World's rules.
- We officially got the very first instance of Stupid Daima Goku, let this not become a trend.
- It's finally time for me to admit that Nozawa's child voice is struggling.
Misc:
- The sky is of an unusual color, the population is extremely poor and desperate, we'll stay in a hotel where everything is expensive as hell. Oh, and Goku is hungry all the time! "Hey, that was dirty of you!" - "Oh no, our spaceship was stolen!"
Now, where have I seen that before?!

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
So, it seems the Demon Realm is (broadly speaking) structured kind of like Babidi's spaceship? - multiple levels stacked vertically atop one another (3 at the top, 1 at the bottom, in this case), a pathway down the middle that reaches from the top to the bottom but is sealed off (until something as-yet-unrevealed happens, I guess?), and a 'command centre' at the bottom of the whole thing (in this case the Demon King palace in Realm 1).
That's pretty fun, if deliberate. I guess it would also make sense for the Great Demon King to also be the King of Realm 1 (apart from the Babidi thing, maybe a Dantean vibe? Satan is at the bottom of Hell in the Inferno) - it also makes sense that the "Demon Realm of Darkness" (if they're still going to call it that - hearty lulz at Dabura's statue in Realm 3, by the way) would be at the bottom of the whole thing.
I can see we're going with the (foreseeable) vibe that most of the Demon Realm races (monsters aside) are pretty 'normal' compared to their reputation; that's a pretty well-worn Toriyama commonplace, with Sandland and whatnot.

If true, then this could be an expansion of what we originally knew about how the Kaioshin come to be, rather than an outright change.tinlunlau wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 2:09 pm Just finished watching the episode on Viu TV and realized I can take screenshots on their app. Anyone know a good spot to upload screenshots of the new eyecatches?

Also, I dunno why, but the goldfish joke was pretty funny to me.
And it's really fun to see Mini Goku getting back into the fighting groove of his old kid self with the air restrictions and him trying to enjoy a meal in piece.
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
Wow, I didn't know Gokuu and Shin were married!

I didn't even think about how the multi-level system was a callback to Babidi's ship. I was actually thinking about the Demon Realm in Yuu Yuu Hakusho, which with both multi-level and has barriers in it.
I'm curious what King Kadan is like. Is he just going to be a figure head of sorts or is he going to get a likable personality and design? I'm also curious just what is going on exactly. Shin is suspicious of Glorio and his mission, which makes for excellent drama. I'm curious if Glorio is hiding something that would turn Shin against him?

Goku went all ADHD with the goldfish comments. Can't even pipe down when told to. It's no wonder Vegeta says Goku was so obnoxious.PerhapsTheOtherOne wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 2:57 pmIf true, then this could be an expansion of what we originally knew about how the Kaioshin come to be, rather than an outright change.tinlunlau wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 2:09 pm Just finished watching the episode on Viu TV and realized I can take screenshots on their app. Anyone know a good spot to upload screenshots of the new eyecatches?

I left screenshots of the eyecatchers on gamefaqs for those that want it. Don't mind the Viu TV watermark. It's hardly visible.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
It's great that we finally got some action in this episode but it did put extra emphasis on how Nozawa is struggling with young Goku's voice. This should would be the perfect time to recast IMO.
I liked the music during the fight. It sounded like Pokémon battle music.
So far I'm not really feeling that pairing with Glorio and Kaioshin was the right call. Both characters seem very bland. At least Trunks and Pan had some kind of dynamic with Goku in GT. It does feel like they're trying to fit Glorio in the Trunks (GT) mold a bit.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
Glorio is very Han Solo inspired. The whole episode was.
I don't think Shin being a Glind is a retcon just yet. It seems that the Demon Realm is separate from the universe cosmology, as Shin being a Kaioshin holds no authority there. It's possible Glind are a Demon World name for the same thing as Shinjin. Perhaps the Shinjin are like Namekians, refugees from the Demon World that eventually were chosen by the higher Gods as Kaio and Kaioshin. We simply don't have enough information right now. We need to let the arc unfold. The lore is clearly a big part of this series, so contradictory or not, I'm sure everything will be explained.
Loved the action sequences. Very creative choreography, I could imagine them on Toriyama's page.
Disappointed we're not getting a mature Goku. I found the goldfish gag funny but not much else surrounding his antics. I'll stay for the ride.

Hmm so I wonder if the tree originated in the demon realm then. Was it ever said where it grew from?PerhapsTheOtherOne wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 2:57 pmAlso, I dunno why, but the goldfish joke was pretty funny to me.tinlunlau wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 2:09 pm Just finished watching the episode on Viu TV and realized I can take screenshots on their app. Anyone know a good spot to upload screenshots of the new eyecatches?

Goku's fight felt like some vintage Jackie Chan stuff
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 3 - Official Discussion Thread
Probably my least enjoyable episode so far but still fun. This felt very slow, like we weren't making any cuts and felt every minute of the journey. As we'd already seen the inter realm travel before and were only 3 episodes in it felt a bit repetitive.
I think my main take away from Daima is the comedy has been pretty good. Got a good few laughs from each episode. Goku taunting the fish and the fart joke with glorio saying the smell has increased was funny, as was Goku's whimsy to the whole world. Also this animation is crazy, I'm not noticing any bad art or strange animation and this was just goku and glorio fighting some common bandits.
I'm thinking these lore drops are getting too much, don't think I needed this one. So shin is a glind. I guess that makes sense that not every Kai should be of the same race based on how gods of destruction just seem nominated, but have we ever had a Kai not of the glind race?
Weakest episode so far, but still going strong. I'm surprised to see people getting upset about the whole shinjin tree lore maybe being retconned. I can't say I mind so much as we never saw that in universe. It's on the same level as s cells to me lol

Isn't Kaioshins lore from a guide or a random Toriyama interview? Technically it wouldn't be a retcon from anything from the manga.Yuji wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 3:22 pm Glorio is very Han Solo inspired. The whole episode was.

Kaioshin spent his youth in the Demon Realm and has a spaceship that's able to get there. It's 100% confirmed that's he's from the Demon Realm.
Now the World Tree where the Gods are born could still exist in Demon Planet 2 and everything still fit.
It's not like it's uncommon for Gods in Dragon Ball to be selected instead of born "Godly". Perhaps the Glind are naturally masters of white magic and that's why there's chosen as Kaioshins? Who knows.
