A question about those screenshots. I haven't seen that movie yet, so why do those scenes have really thick "cartoonish" borders?

I don't know, but I thought it made it look cute. I said it was Trunks and Goten World! :D They were messing with Hitler then so I guess it's like that to make the mood happy, or something... o.o

It's a comedy movie (except for once Janemba transforms). All scenes in the living world are pretty much like that. Don't worry, once you see the movie you'll understand why and appreciate it.

Thanks for the pics, dude! Even though the Movie 12 ones weren't quite what I was looking for, it did expand my collection of Hitler DBZ pics, which is good.

That reminds me.

Julian's got the original Toei VHS of movie 12. I want him to bring it to AnimeNext for me to borrow and make a copy of, and use for screen-shots / synopsis page in the "Movie Guide."

Someone remind me. Later. Elsewhere.

Movies

Post by Muten Turtel » Thu Jun 03, 2004 2:57 pm

Movies 1-13 plus the DBGT special are all on Kazza. Even plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, though low quality and I didn't understand what was going on. It may take up a lot of space but the way Funi is going with the movie progress it might be worth it. That and you may have to get DivX to play the movies.

Yeah, we don't like to bootleg here. I'd make an exception for 10-13 and the PlayDia footage, only because it's not even licensed here (and that's a grey area, even, since FUNimation owns the character likenesses, as well, for production in North America)...

So yeah.

Here's an interesting question: Why is it every single video online I find of the DBZ movies are very poor quality? I know there are a number of reasons, but what's the general one?

Because they're all copies of copies of copies.

First off, the original actual visual quality of Toei's masters just aren't the greatest. Furthermore, the highest quality versions of movies available in Japan were on LaserDisc. Most fansubs were made from LaserDisc --> VHS. Right there you've got a generation of quality loss.

Not all fansubbers and distros used nice 4-head, Hi-Fi VCRs. Every time you've got a copy going, you've got another generation of quality loss. Combine that with bad VCRs, and you've got that quality loss multiplied beyond belief.

Then you've got people a few years ago trying to "digitize" the movies, back when people were hardly experts about encoding for online distro. These were just lame-ass DBZ fans with no experience in ANYTHING, making god-awful ASF and early DivX 3.11 encodes.

No wonder it all looks like shit!

At this point, there's really no incentive to go back and capture the LaserDiscs and make new fansubs. Everyone's already seen them all (more or less) from some method of viewing, and they're eventually going to come out on VHS and DVD anyway (and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Dragon Box in Japan that's just movies).

Interesting...

Well, I guess that explains why the later movies, and most of GT has such shitty screencaps when you search the web for them.

Ya know what would be fun? Fandubbing the Playdia footage ^^

I'll take any Chris Sabat-type roles!

Yeah, but that's a tad bit more complicated than just subbing...

I bet I could do a good Trunks, when I make my voice all whiney I sound just like him.

That would be cool, but it's also a lot harder than you think. Trust me on that, I've played around with small clips from the sereis and added my own lines to them. Though still, it'd be something new. You just don't see many Fandubs...

I don't like the concept of fandubs. Sure, true fans might not butcher the series with crappy lines, but they won't always have professional sound quality and it will take so long for episodes to come out...

Plus they usually aren't any more professionally trained in voice acting than some VA's are.
