Oh yeah, the Azumanga omnibus is most definitely bigger than Kenshin's. Considering that there's more material in Azumanga Daioh! than the first three volumes of Rurouni Kenshin, it's a no-brainer.The Time Traveller wrote:Someone get a picture of one with the Azumanga Daioh Omnibus, I wanna see which is bigger, my money is on the Omnibus.
As for the color pages: Would it really have killed Viz to print those three pages in color? Do you think this could've possibly been a mistake on Viz's part?
Other bits of info:
They have the original, clean versions of the tankoubon covers printed in color in the back of the book. Neato.
Author's notes (those little blurbs that used to be on the first page of every tankoubon) are in color and are also located in the back of the book.
Now, here's what the Dragon Ball omnibus need to address:
1. More than one chapter having color pages.
2. Restoring edited artwork and changed names. (13+ Rating gives me hope.)
3. Putting the chapter title pages back in. I recall Viz's original release only put a choice few of these at the end of each volume.

I believe they were merely following the tankoubon in that regard; the tankoubon title page galleries didn't include all the title pages for every chapter in each volume. The kanzenban was the first manga release to have all of the title pages.Brad Redfield wrote:3. Putting the chapter title pages back in. Personally, I wouldn't mind color for the full-color pages and grayscale for the two-color pages. But then again, I already own the entire Kanzenban so it's not really a concern for me anyhow.

Indeed. Having pages that are only partially colored seems more annoying than them being entirely black and white in my opinion.SaiyaJedi wrote:Personally, I wouldn't mind color for the full-color pages and grayscale for the two-color pages. You're talking about the red and black-ish pages, right?SaiyaJedi wrote:Personally, I wouldn't mind color for the full-color pages and grayscale for the two-color pages.

Besides the whole color page thing, the book is really well put together. I'm still anticipating the DB/DBZ volumes.

I don't know...I own the kanzenban, and while the full-color pages look nice, I think my favorite color artwork outside of the color title pages is in the partially colored pages. While the color substitutions Toriyama had to make to get everyone colored sometimes look sort of stupid (Elder Kaioshin with a red mustache and yellow skin), a lot of the times I think they look pretty good. For instance, possibly my favorite color chapter is one during the SSJ Goku and Freeza fight, where the have the beam struggle thing and Goku gets knocked into the water. The full-color pages with the beam struggle look very good, but what I really like is how when it switches to partial color, it has SSJ Goku with white hair and red eyes, and Freeza with greyish skin and black rather than purple jewel...things (what are those things on his body, anyway?). They both look very cool like that, and it's something you'd never see outside of those partially colored pages.Vegard Aune wrote:Indeed. For whoever was like "ZOMG NO INSIDE BOOK PIX YO!!!!" when I made this thread (and for whoever agreed with that person), I had a chance to go back to the mall today and fix my error.
So, for anyone who hasn't seen a VIZBIG for themselves yet, a color page and a B&W page:

The paper quality of the color pages doesn't feel like a magazine like the color pages of Shonen Jump. All the pages are the same type of paper.
The paper isn't some kind of super high-quality "send from God himself" paper, but in terms of manga releases this is some pretty nice paper.
EDIT: Oh yeah. The photo quality doesn't really reflect the quality of the book itself too accurately (especially in the color page photo). I was using the camera on my phone to take those pics.

Diggin' that color, like it was right out of the serialized manga.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Rightstuf is saying these monsters are going to be over 500 pages. The Kanzenban is only about 225 pages!

Shit, the DragonBall (no Z) is almost 600 pages!

Damn, half colored? The hell? Well, then again it's not Naruto - so does ViZ care?

Well, at least this way they can release a "Dragonball Special Super Color Edition" 42 volume series later on.
And THEN a Viz Big version of THAT.
...then follow it up with a "Super Complete Edition" that includes all the title pages.. in black and white, of course - that way they can gives us a "Super Complete Edition in Color" too.

The half-coloring and stuff is likely how the author/artist colored it when it was set to appear in Jump in Japan. It's not like VIZ is going through the manga's colored pages with an eraser and a grudge against their fans.bkev wrote:Damn, half colored? The hell? I know that part of it wasn't in color, but according to VegettoEX they skipped a few pages.
