My Birth date was June 1st, 1990.

The closest anime episode was episode 51 of Dragon Ball Z, which aired on the 6th.

I can't find the closest manga chapter, but the closest tankobon release is Volume 22 (or by Viz's releases Dragon Ball Z volume 6). Which was released on July 15th, 1990

The closest manga chapter (reference; originally plugged by Herms) would be chapter 275, "Vegeta's Quick Attack!!", which was released on June 4th, 1990. In case you're curious, Vegeta faces off against Rikuum in this chapter.

Closest episode: Dragon Ball episode 73 "Goku's Turn"

It seems as if I was born during the Uranai Baba arc. Makes me want to go back and watch those episodes. :)

Episode: #87, Showdown!! Yamcha vs Tenshinhan (11 Nov 1987)

Unfortunately I haven’t seen/read much of DB yet so I don’t know how epic/not these installments are.

And I just found out what DB Chapter 397 was: The Trunks: The Story special chapter. And episode 165 was the episode where Cell first told Trunks about the Cell Games. Pretty epic. :)
