Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomeness)
Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomeness)
Gah, this thread's stuck displaying as a new one.
Anyhow, I suppose I'll say something on topic. This Guide Guide is a brilliant guide. I can't express with but words just how much fun reading through these guides are. Man, I wish there was a book form of these things. They'd make good reading material while on the john...
Wow. That sounds bad...

Yeah this Guides Guide is great. I find myself coming back through here quite often and always finding something new when I do.

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomeness)
Herms, just a couple of things I wanted to point out, about your GT techniques guide:
You've got Goku's final Genki-Dama listed as "Ultra Super Genki-Dama," but Yanami clearly says 超ウルトラ元気玉 during the closing narration of GT episode 63. Shouldn't it be "Super Ultra Genki-Dama," then? Or perhaps "Ultra Ultra Genki-Dama" would be more accurate?
Also, I wanted to comment on one of your posts, in that topic:

Also, I wanted to comment on one of your posts, in that topic:
Actually, Yi Xing Long uses "Dragon Thunder," after piercing Vegeta with his spikes. So the purpose of the "Spike Attack" was to connect Vegeta to Yi Xing Long, so he could electrocute him. Just wanted to let you know.Herms wrote:Well, "Spike Attack" is just a name I made up to describe it. It's odd that they'd call it "Dragon Thunder" though, since that's Wu Xing Long's attack where he shoots lightning from his fingertips, and that Yi Xing Long uses after absorbing the dragonballs. I've got it on my list too.SSj_Rambo wrote:I know that the attack was called "Dragon Thunder" in the Budokai Tenkaichi games, and I've always wondered how accurate that was. Dragon Thunder sounds corny, but I can't totally blame them for changing it from something as bland as "Spike Attack".Herms wrote:Spike Attack (Yi Xing Long): Where he makes the spikes on his back extend to pierce his opponent. He uses this against SSJ Vegeta.
I should probably note which technique names are ones I simply made up to describe techniques and not actual names used in the series. I tried to make them as generic and merely descriptive as possible, so you can kind of tell, hopefully.

Of course, but I'm sure Herms would like to be as accurate as possible with his guides, so...

Hey Herms have you checked my newest contributions to your strength cheker guide?
I think they deserve to be cheked out.
Also when are you going to put the a link to the strength cheker guide in this guide? I know it's in your sig, but isn't it about time to update this thread?
Keep up the good work!

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomeness)
Sorry, I've been meaning to do a thorough updating of the Strength Checker, but I keep putting it off due to the holidays and whatnot. I've also been meaning to update this thread too now that it's a sticky, but I've been putting that off too. I'll try and get that done tomorrow.dbgtFO wrote:Hey Herms have you checked my newest contributions to your strength cheker guide?

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomeness)
OK, the Strength Checker has been added, along with the Viz Translation Review, at long last. I also wrote a new intro.
I've been thinking of rearranging the guides by category rather than by rough chronological order. So for instance all the daizenshuu translation stuff would go under one section, translations from other guidebooks and whatnot into another, and stuff like the Name Pun Round-Up or Strength Checker into another (or others, or something). What do you guys think?

Ah, that's right. Duly noted. I'll update the GT technique guide...eventually. Yet another thing I've been meaning to do for awhile. Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomeness)
I think rearranging the guides into categories is a good idea, too. Having a section for material directly translated from the guide books is a good idea, but I'm not sure how categorize information not necessarily from guide books (like the Strength Checker and GT guides).
Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
Maybe I'm missing it in all those guides, but could you possibly include somewhere the Toriyama interview or SEG section with the down-low on the Super Saiyan stages?

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
That's a little vague. What part are you looking for exactly? Daizenshuu 7 has information on most of the forms, while the Super Exciting Guide: Story Volume describes how powerful the forms supposedly are (Super Saiyan 2 being twice as strong as Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 3 being four times as strong as Super Saiyan 2).Nazi Cola wrote:Maybe I'm missing it in all those guides, but could you possibly include somewhere the Toriyama interview or SEG section with the down-low on the Super Saiyan stages?

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
The latter is what I'm looking for, but in a more formatted way, if you will. Not to be rude or anything, but I can't convince someone in a debate with a post in that format. It would have to be something like in, like, direct translation format, like the former in your post. I hope that made sense.Bussani wrote:That's a little vague. And wasn't there an interview where Toriyama also stated those numbers the SEG uses?

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
This is a great thread for info Herms, thank you!
I have one question concerning the Genki Dama. Does it ever say [Manga, anime or guidebooks] that it can only destroy a person with an evil heart?

It's completely harmless against those with a just heart. It's possible to transfer the ball by grasping hands.

I don't remember ever seeing it anywhere else.Nazi Cola wrote:The latter is what I'm looking for, but in a more formatted way, if you will.
Kaio does tell Goku that the Genki Dama can even destroy the planet you're trying to protect if you aren't careful, though, so I'm not sure if it's completely harmless. But he asked if the guide said it, and it does, so yeah.dbgtFO wrote:It's completely harmless against those with a just heart. It's possible to transfer the ball by grasping hands.

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
Nope. Though the whole training section of the SEG: Story Volume that features the stuff on Super Saiyan forms is said to have been "supervised" by Toriyama, whatever that means.Nazi Cola wrote:And wasn't there an interview where Toriyama also stated those numbers the SEG uses?
Well, I think the idea is that it's harmless against people with pure hearts because they can deflect it. Planets don't have hearts, so they can't deflect the Genki-Dama and therefore can be inadvertently destroyed by it.Bussani wrote:Kaio does tell Goku that the Genki Dama can even destroy the planet you're trying to protect if you aren't careful, though, so I'm not sure if it's completely harmless.

Re: Herms' Guide Guide (Collection of Information Awesomenes
That's how I took it, too, but I don't know if the Genki-Dama would have just bounced off of Gohan's face if he hadn't actually tried to deflect it. The "completely harmless" line almost seems to imply that it would have, but I guess we don't really know.Herms wrote:Well, I think the idea is that it's harmless against people with pure hearts because they can deflect it.
