Not all of them. Some of it was canon, some other filler (not totally bad filler, just filler).
O ok. I really enjoyed those episodes (although I could live without saiyaman crap).
I hope they will make the freeza saga much shorter.

Great Saiyaman was canon, but it wasn't a really big part of the series. They dragged it out a bit in the anime. In the manga, it's there just long enough to be funny a couple of times before the plot moves onto Videl and flying.

I think you mean to say that Great Saiyaman was around just long enough to give the guys at Toei enough stuff to work off of to make an awesome mini-arc, and that if only Toriyama had made Great Saiyaman last longer in the manga maybe we could have had the delight of more Great Saiyaman in the anime.
That must be what you meant.
Because Great Saiyaman is awesome.

That is what these DVDs are for.
Yeah, I own all the original DVDs, but I'd like to be able to enjoy the "new" series as well. I'm just not sure I could because some of my favorite moments happen to be filler.

And the manga didn't? Really, you're overreacting a little, aren't you?

As per Wasted Wisher, we now know that death of Raditz takes place in episode three, so my predictions for the Saiyan arc:
Episode 1: ends with Raditz taking off with Gohan.
Episode 2: covers most of the battle with Raditz.
Episode 3: ends with Piccolo taking Gohan to train.
Episode 4: ends with the arrival of the Saiyans (too soon, maybe?)
Episode 5: ends with Yamcha's death.
Episode 6: ends with Tenshinhan's death.
Episode 7: some fighting with Nappa.
Episode 8: Piccolo dies, Son arrives.
Episode 9: Son defeats Nappa.
Episode 10: Son and Vegeta begin their fight.
Episode 11: ends with Vegeta turning into his Great Ape form.
Episode 12: ends with Gohan and Kuririn showing up to help Gokû out.
Episode 13: ends with Vegeta escaping from Earth.
Too brisk?

I would say episode 4 is much too soon. Maybe pad out the training for Vegeta and Nappa three episodes at max.

I think that they could condense the initial battle with the Saiya-
jin even more than that; not a lot really happens other than everyone dying.

Well, episode four still has a good 17 or so minutes for material pre-arrival to at least offer up some sort of "This is what's been happening" montage, I think.
I did at least try to give each of the character's who die their space to breath.

291 into 100 = that's about 2.91 episodes into 1 episode.

Nobody wants to keep the robot episode, eh?
I think training for the Saiyan invasion can take a few episodes. 3-5 would be fine by me.

Kai Episode 3: Second half of DBZ Episode 4 and Episode 5. (Ends with Kami taking Goku's boby and the saiyans leaving for Earth.)
Kai Episode 4: DBZ Episode 6 and 7. (Ends with Gohan falling asleep at the top of a hill while Piccolo is watching over him.)
Kai Episode 5: DBZ Episode 8 and canon elements from Episode 9 to 18. (Ends with Goku meeting Kaio.)
Kai Episode 6: DBZ Episode 19 and Episode 21. (Ends with the arrival of the Saiyans.)
Kai Episode 7: DBZ Episode 22 and 23. (Ends with Yamcha's death.)
Kai Episode 8: DBZ Episode 24 and 25. (Ends with Vegeta giving the 3-hours delay.)
Kai Episode 9: DBZ Episode 26 and 27. (Ends with Piccolo protecting Gohan.)
Kai Episode 10: DBZ Episode 28 and 29. (Ends with Goku and Vegeta leaving.)
Kai Episode 11: DBZ Episode 30 and 31. (Ends with Vegeta turning into a Oozaru.)
Kai Episode 12: DBZ Episode 32 and 33. (Ends with Krillin getting the Genkidama.)
Kai Episode 13: DBZ Episode 34 and 35. (Ends with the departure of Vegeta.)

Since it's complete filler, I think we all expected it to be excised anyway.
Yeah, a majority like it, but even though the general consensus is that it's touching and build Gohan's character, the general-er consensus is that it's boring and has no fighting.

The series will finally be able to be viewed the way Toriyama wanted it. That's the way I see it, it's even being aired in time with his birthday. It must be kind of like a kick in the teeth to him that one of the main negative points of the anime is the fact that certain scenes are dragged out too long (power up scenes, staring out before fighting, and general situations like '5 minutes until Namek explodes' and flashbacks). Even though he isn't really responsible for the anime's actual production, it's his story people will dislike because of Toei. Now 20 years have passed and DBZ is still very popular, it has definately stood the test of time, what will Kai do for the younger generation of fans, especially in Japan?
Now I ain't one to be bothered by all that when I'm watching DBZ, I'm obviously not ignorant and can realise everytime something is used to 'kill time', and regarding the filler, I can respect Toei for being imaginative and actually creating decent sidestories to tie in with the main one, yea I do like all the filler in DBZ, it's just that being none-the -wiser is what it takes to think nothing of it, once you've become aware it's made up stuff to give Toriyama time to draw, you kind of feel like those scenes are irrelevant and it won't be of any harm to just skip them. I do skip certain scenes of filler when rewatching episodes sometimes, but I've seen it all before anwyay.

'The way Toriyama wanted it'? When has he ever said anything against the Anime? Just because his version came first, doesn't quite mean his story was trashed with, or rather that being how he feels.

Toriyama doesn't care enough to actually go through the anime's problems. When he watched it with his kids, he probably just said "whatever." He probably didn't even pay attention.

He probably went "This show is great, who made that Goku fellow!?"

I've been meaning to make a thread on the subject of Toriyama's forgetfulness.

You know what episodes I'm really looking forward to seeing condensed? Everything from Piccolo vs. Android through Cell's announcement of the Cell Games. The scenes between Goku and Gohan in the Room of Spirit and Time are nice, but the main fighting... do Piccolo vs. Android 18 and the various Super Saiyan fights against Cell really deserve close to 20 episodes (148-165)? I'm rewatching the series and it's the most tedious thing in the history of existence. I'm glad the Cell Game training episodes are right around the corner, because this middle portion of the Cell Saga is such a drag.
