This is one of those times I coudn't be more glad for having a manga version.

As far Super anime goes, I don't have to worry about poop animation (episode 5), bad voice acting (kaio voice actor) and the soundtrack quality.
The art is great and the pacing greater. Props to Toyotaro for this.

I still think the chapters should have monthly size though.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

The anime has its problems, but I can't agree with most of that for the manga either. The general pacing is alright I guess since it seems to be doing its own thing, but it has the problem of assuming you've seen the previous material a bit too much. It's fine for us dealing with the present schedule, but for newer fans in the future if this ever gets collected as a tankobon? I can foresee the problems with the overall story's flow already beginning when we just jump into the Yongengyo conversation at the start of Chapter 2.

Likewise, because it's so rushed (especially without a traditional monthly page count) and the characters are forced to get into the action so fast, it's starting to bastardize their characters and turn them into asses. I'm not just talking about the choice of dialogue for the English version most people have read either; that only makes their characterizations worse than what we already get in the original.

I do like the artwork for the most part in Toyotarou's Super manga. He draws a very good early 90's Gokû.
It's very Buu arc artwork-style Gokû, but it's got some of the cute from the 10th Anniversary Movie's art-style mixed in there when you look at his face.

Volume-collection-wise though; yeah this'll definitely suffer from choppy-plot the way the precure manga volumes do.
On hiatus.

Your comparison of BoG's run time and Super's run time is unfair because the first two episodes of Super were not retellings of BoG. In reality, Super's retelling of BoG has gone for about 60 minutes.

They're considered part of this Battle of Gods saga so I'm lumping them in there. Besides, the two episodes didn't even need to be two, you easily could've spliced together the Goku & Vegeta slice of life stuff into one. We didn't need the bit with the two annoying hellspawn getting a gift for Videl or Satan f*cking about about with Buu and those reporters.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I don't see any problem with that. Casual fans don't read manga. And if we talk about the japanese casual fans, they have much more means to find out about DB story.
There's always Dragon Ball guides being released and the DB Super start guide is perfect for them.

People that read Super manga are into anime/manga, so most of us are informed of what's going on. Its a good thing.
For casual fans, the anime will flesh out things better. Its a win/win scenario.

The DBS manga to me feels like sneak previews on what to come in the show. I think Champa won't show up to visit Beerus until after Beerus beats Goku in the BOG arc.

kinda happy the manga's behind now. It seems it might go in a different direction? We'll see in this weeks chapter for sure if this is just episode preveiws.

Has toriyama made any comments on this?

The manga is technically behind, but who knows for how long. The next chapter officially releases towards the end of the week and the contents of what it covers will leak any day now.

With the way it's skipping around and pacing itself at breakneck speed, we may get Vegeta's rage and SSG already in the chapter if they are just doing previews and not a consistent story.

Bonus Stage posted a 2chan transcription of the third chapter over in this thread, and I summarized it there. Here's the whole thing in Japanese, most of which is basically the same "Beerus vs. everyone" battle we got in BoG:
And here's a translation of the bit in the middle with Champa:
Kaioshin Realm

Kibito-shin: “N-Now Lord Beerus is fighting with Vegeta…!! At this rate, the Earth will be destroyed…!”
Elder Kaioshin: “…..”
Kibito-shin: “! What is the matter, ancestor?”
Elder Kaioshin: “It’s just that…Lord Beerus is on Earth, and yet…there’s a planet vanishing somewhere else…What’s going on?”

He pulls out his crystal ball and on it appears the image of:

Woman: “…So then, shall we continue on and search for the next wish orb?”
Champa: “That’s right. After all, it seems the people over here still don’t know about these huge wish orbs.”
Woman: “But if we stay here too long, they will be sure to catch on.”

Elder Kaioshin: “What!? Did they say ‘wish orbs’!?”
Kibito-shin: “They must mean the dragon balls…!”

Woman: “!...See, what did I tell you?”
Champa: “!”

The two of them stare right at Kibito-shin and Elder Kaioshin from out of the crystal ball.

Kibito-shin: “It-It’s…”
Elder Kaioshin: “Lord Champa!!!”
Kibito-shin: “They’ve noticed us!!”
Elder Kaioshin: “Why is Lord Champa after the dragon balls…?!!!!”

The two of them arrive at the Kaioshin Realm

Elder Kaioshin: “Wh-What…”
Champa: “Hey! It’s been a long time, Kaioshins of Universe 7! Eavesdropping is a bad habit for a Kaioshin…How much did you overhear?”
Kibito-shin: “No, we didn’t overhear anything…Right, ancestor?”
Elder Kaioshin: “We didn’t hear a thing!”

Champa eyes them suspiciously

Champa: “Hmph, something’s fishy, but whatever. I’m outta here.”
Kibito-shin, Elder Kaioshin: “*phew*”
Woman: “Well then, until we meet again.”

The two of them fly off.

Kibito-shin: “I never imagined they’d come all the way over here…”
Elder Kaioshin: “Tell me about it…But anyway, they said something about ‘huge wish orbs’”
Kibito-shin: “Most likely they meant the dragon balls on Planet Namek, rather than Earth…”
Elder Kaioshin: “Knowing Lord Champa, he’ll definitely use them for no good. This won’t do at all! We’ve got to get to Planet Namek before them and protect the dragon balls!!!”
Kibito-shin: “Y-Yes sir!”
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

Thanks for the translation Herms but are you going to translate the rest?

I used Google to do it and while I couldn't make anything of it there is apparently some dialogue said by Piccolo. I'm really curious.

Let the man rest. lol

It should only be a couple of days, if that, before the rest of it is released elsewhere. Granted, it will be spiced up with some expletives and the like, but it's not like it'l be speed sub quality. There has only really been one flub in that sense, and that's the dinosaur sent to destroy Earth malarkey.

Pretty much everything else from the chapter is stuff that we already know from Battle of Gods or Super, so a full translation isn't going to add much. Gokuu worries about Beerus heading to Earth, Gohan and Boo attack Beerus, Whis sits around eating takoyaki, Beerus freaks out over Gotenks belittling his pudding problem and gives him a spanking, Vegeta flashes back to when he first met Beerus (shorter version like Battle of Gods, rather than what Super showed us), Bulma slaps Beerus and tells him to leave, gets slapped in return, "How dare you...my Bulma!", Kuririn comments on how strong Vegeta is (but no Kame Sennin claiming he's stronger than Gokuu in this version...), then the part that Herms already translated happens, and it ends on Earth with Beerus deciding he has no use for this planet anymore, but Gokuu shows up before he can blow it up.

I guess now that we have the Japanese dialogue for this chapter, even if a shitty scanlation shows up, we at least have something to compare it to so we can tell it's wrong.

Thanks for the translation Herms. So can Fem Whis teleport? I can just see her being Whis's mum or something. :P
This chapter sounds really interesting. I wonder when we're gonna see Champa in the anime.

Thanks for translating again, Herms.

It's funny, it seems that Femme-Whis can teleport much faster than Whis can, no? I mean, there's always a timestamp on how long it'll take Whis and Beerus to get somewhere (Earth, Kaiosama's planet, etc.) meanwhile from the translations it seems that F-Whis and Champa get there the instant they notice Kibitoshin and Elder Kai watching them. Unless they were on a planet that was pretty damn close to the Kaioshin Realm.

Whis doesn't teleport. He flies. If the female Whis got there instantly then it's likely teleportation that's similar to IT.

Ah'. Well, even though it resembles flying, since we get some dialogue out of Whis and Beerus, I kind of always figured it was teleporting -- just by the way it looks upon leaving an area and the ultra, ultra, ultra light that surrounds them mid-flight / teleport. Or, in the very least, some sort of teleportation. Do they ever state it's "flying"? I always thought Beerus was just asking "how long will it take" in general. Guess it doesn't matter, really. Fact is F-Whis got to a destination much faster than we've seen Whis go anyway. So, she's either faster at teleporting / flying or can do something that Whis can't, or at least it seems that way since we haven't seen Whis "teleport" .... yet.

Interesting either way.

Teleportation means you go from one place to another instantly. Basically just like Goku's IT. Whis doesn't do that. He flies, which is clearly demonstrated by him moving through space. If it was teleportation then there wouldn't be a set time for how long it takes him to reach each destination. He'd simply be there the moment he teleported.

If female Whis did indeed get there instantly (nothing really suggests that she did as there's no specific time frame given) then it's likely teleportation as you can't cross light years instantly (and I use this term literally) by flying regardless of how fast you are.

I can Fem Whis being more like Whis' sister, rather than her mum. She looks way too young to be his mum. :P
