Just for the record, Goku didn't STAY a clueless mountain boy, even in the manga...

He grew up, learned the difference between boys and girls and what they did with each other, had a family, and used Capsules and spaceships and all kinds of modern facilities and amenities just like a normal person, and all that jazz. Just because he continued to live in the mountains and preferred training himself over most other pastimes doesn't mean he's still so obtusely naive.

But it's as if some folks aren't happy unless movie-Goku, who is obviously meant to be a little older and a little wiser, isn't a perpetual clueless copy of his chapter 1 self.

Just watched it this afternoon. I Gotta say, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Though I absolutely dreaded Yamcha's atrocious dialogue...

I actually like Magic Begins and often do the Roshi Dance at random moments, but I am just saying it can be easily ignored as I am sure still over 50% of the DB community probably doesn't know it exists.

To be fair, I'm fairly sure a good 50% of the DB community in the United States knows that the Japanese version exists.

... And? They weren't talking about the Japanese version. They were talking about the other DB live action movie.

You know, the good one. Well, the "so bad it's good" one.

I'm just sayin'. The majority of the "fan community" for Dragon Ball tends to be ignorant. Less so as it became less popular, but still.

It wasn't really a "point", exactly. Just that I don't think the knowledge of your average DBZ fan is going to be worth much. =p

Me too, I'm still waiting for the unofficial sequel.

Just saw the movie yesturday, and I had a lot of fun, I really enjoyed it. I only have two real big complaints(everything else I could live with), Marsters didn't have enough screen time and the movie was two fast pace.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

That was actually pretty good, I'd consider it pretty faithful.
I'm not ready for this.

The Magic Begins, although it used different names, still seemed like some kind of Dragon Ball, or at least a bad attempt at mimicking Dragon Ball. It will be remembered because people will be able to compare and contrast it with the anime, no matter how ridiculous some parts are.
Dragon Ball Evolution is very unmemorable to me, because it's so UN-Dragon Ball, it's the opposite of The Magic Begins where it used the names but created something almost completely different. That's why I don't feel any emotion about how it lived up, because it didn't even try to make it any form of Dragon Ball. Every time they had to opportunity, they took a different direction and created, in my opinion, a very un-entertaining and forgettable movie.

However they did use two of the Henchman from movie number 1.

The fact that Evolution tried to properly use an already existing villain from the manga and still ended up failing doesn't give points to The Magic Begins, but just denotes Evolution further.

Creating an original villain is just as bad as change the main characters, for example Goku or Bulma, for another characters. Plus not using an already existing villain from the Manga and still ended up failing is much worse than use one and ended like DBE did.

Yeah, the original villain took a lot from TMB, but Piccolo didn't add a lot to Evolution, we didn't even get a fleshed out back story or any kinds of motives, plus he was in the movie for such a short amount of time.
The villain in TMB still seemed more Dragon Ball to me than DBE's Piccolo, and the one from The Magic Begins wasn't very Dragon Ball at all. That's what I think is so pathetic.

Have anyone ever thought that Piccolo’s background would be explored in the sequel in addition to him having more screen time?
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.
