I find it odd that 47 won't load, but 48 will...still, this is exciting news. I'll watch in a moment.
Edit: Well, I got to watch it...and...*wipes manly tears from eyes* So awesome...so perfect...just what I hoped for since the beginning...a fantastic dub, this is.

Yes! Sean nailed it. I remember asking way back when Sean was still on Facebook if they'd use Son on this moment. Looks like they did.
He's got it down completely, the entire episode. Definitely better than 1999 by a long shot.

Sean did a brilliant job. I thought I'd never see this scene perfected in English.

Freeza's reaction was pretty much my own.

It was awesome. Sean had been sounding great these last few episodes. This one sold the deal.

Can't get #47 to play, so I'm skipping to #48. The recap covered the transformation...but boy, that was awful. Schemmel's acting is just painful.
But hey, he said 'Son' decently. That's something!

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
It sounded like his transformation scene was a little better than in Z. I think they added some lines, but I think it helped it not seem so awkward when he's grunting for two minutes.
I can't say I'm fond of the piece of music they used for the transformation in Kai, though. I mean, I realize that in Z they used a track that they often used, but it was so appropriate and made the transformation seem like this big scary thing. The piece in Kai is suspensful, but you could plug it in almost anywhere.

Hey hey, don't throw Nozawa under the bus. She's weak in maybe, what, a couple of scenes, in Kai? She's still got it in nearly every scene she's in.Garlic wrote:You know nowzowa is`nt excactly as amazing as she used to be in z. But I don't think Schemmel's Goku in Kai is anywhere near painful. He's not my preference, however.

All bad jokes aside, aside from taste differences, I can't see it being bad. I can understand it not being preferential, that makes sense. But it was definitely a well done scene for what it was.

I actually didn't like some of the noises Ayres was making, during the "Super Saiyan Son Gokuu" scene. They just seemed a little too high-pitched. Not in the way that Freeza has his little shrieks like "EEYAAH!" but more... Like a girl, really. That's not being sexist or saying it like "You throw like a girl" (in other words, I'm not doing the "Son Gokuu sounds like a girl" thing), it's just that actually is what it sounds like.
But this is just one moment. I need to see the actual episodes first, to have real thoughts on it.

It sounded to me like he was copying Nakao for those noises there.....cause they sound a lot like that from what I remember.Ashy-kun wrote:I actually didn't like some of the noises Ayres was making, during the "Super Saiyan Son Gokuu" scene. That epic speech by Goku was beautiful. I find it WAY better than the 1999 dub of that scene.
For once, I would rather have a faithful dub rather than a rewritten dub that takes away the original dialogue.
DBZ Kai is, to me, the definitive Dragon Ball Z dub.

Re: Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion
I swear, if Kaioh didn't have any speaking parts in this episode, it would have been perfect. As it stands, though, 9/10, for sure. Kuririn's death got shortened and sped up, but you can still tell what obviously happened, so I don't really care. Poor guy, though; he's finally allowed to keep his dreams of having a girlfriend on network television, and then he's dead.
Ayers was fantastic as usual, sliding further and further into the insane scale as Freeza loses his last nerve. And holy shit, can Colleen scream!! That "PICCOLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!" seemed to go on forever. Loving her as Gohan more and more as the series goes on, and though it's a ways off, I can't wait to see her bring my favorite character to his ultimate achievement in the Cell arc.
As for the moment of truth, well, this is my first exposure to Kai in general, so on that note...eh. Not the same impact as Z, IMO, and the only reason for that is the lack of Kikuchi's score. It just didn't feel as dramatic for me to hear this same piece of Yamamoto's played over such an iconic scene (granted, I've been watching the marathon in the background all day, so I might have been less sick of it if I was watching on a weekly basis). But on the dub side, fucking finally. Schemmel's voice was noticeably trembling with emotion as Gokou struggled to hold back his rage before letting lose and transforming. I'm tempted to head over to YouTube and rape my ears with the Season 3 scene just for comparison purposes, but even without doing that, it's obvious that this was handled better than words can describe. Very pleased to finally see this scene done justice to.
Also, on a few episodes back (I've been a bit behind on the last few weeks due to Pokemon SoulSilver owning my life), I wanted to remark on another scene that I was very happy to see redone...actually, make that two. Both of Gokou's 'visions' - the one of his Saiyajin brethren (though Vegeta's painted-on boxers looked incredibly stupid), and the one of his friends back on Earth. I recall in the old Season 3 version, we had to listen to everyone's terrible new voices force out stifled laughter as their faces appeared on screen, as opposed to Freeza laughing in the background as per the original. This was rectified, and wonderfully I have to say, because Ayers just cannot disappoint me in this role. Both of these visions held the same importance and emotional impact as the original, something Season 3 just didn't give a shit about. It makes me so happy to finally be watching Dragonball in English on TV, and recognizing it as Dragonball...and enjoying it. It's been long overdue, and though there are still flaws and things we all wish could have been done better with slightly more effort...it's hard to imagine being more satisfied with an English dub of Dragonball.
FUNimation, I am not disappoint.
Edit: Oh God, finally, his speech, in English...no more of this 'ally to good' bullshit, that sounded like a nearly dead-on translation. And he even said Son Gokou in English. Holy shit.
I came.

The scream at the moment Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan was my favorite part of the transformation. It gave me chills, something Schemmel's Goku has thus far been unable to do.

"Son Goku" is what mattered the most to me today, and it didn't disappoint

Anyone have any clue when the next new episode will air on Nicktoons yet?
I didn't see an advertisement yet, so I'm wondering if it's been said anywhere yet.

That "Son Goku!" took me by surprise.

Thanks, Puto!
Watching that scene reminded me why Sean Schemmel is the best voice for Gokū. Brilliant stuff.
