The thing with Vegeta winning is (and even though I kinda would like to see him win) that once he does, he will hold that win over everyone for a long time. I feel like his ego would get such a boost he'd be in "I'm Super Vegeta" mode the whole time, which would initially be funny, but then become grating after a point.

I feel like his sheer popularity along with how closely he's tied to the Freeza arc (that this movie pulls a major plot point from) secures him a major role in there somewhere.

So what are everyone's expectations for this film?

To be honest, my expectations are pretty low. I'm not really expecting anything more than a fun 90 minute romp, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I can't see this film diving into the existing class and exploring their characters in greater depth, nor do I expect it to have a plot point that could ultimately change the way we see the series, although I'd love to be proven wrong.

Perhaps Uisu will have the ability to change that and violate my common sense of Z.

My expectations, while not astronomically high, are higher than I would've expected them to be. So far, aside.from being initially put off by Birusu's design (which I'm over now) everything else I've seen so far related to the plot has got me excited. I guess I won't really know my final expectations until the bulk of the plot-info's been released though.

Sounds exactly what a film adaption of the OP should sound like; upbeat, cheery, fast. It's not that bad!
I like it. My expectations for the movie are astronomically high... It's the first official chapter in the manga since JUNE 1995.

Also, looking at song some more, it sounds like it was put through a filter to make it faster. I wonder what it would sound like if we slowed it down a little.

Edit: I've found my sweet spot by slowing down the song to 0.858 (yes, the .058 makes a difference) on Windows Media Player through the enhancements, play speed options by left clicking the play dashboard.

Flow's cover isn't bad, even if largely unimaginative - but my biggest problem from a 2012/2013 production standpoint is that it's lazy and low budget.

It sounds like a slapped together demo done in someone's bedroom or a small project studio using Superior Drummer and a lazy engineer who quickly slapped Melodyne correction on the layered vocals. Don't get me wrong - I'm not one of those 'if it has auto-tune it's evil and not authentic' types, but I think pitch correction on vocals is a tool that someone with skill can spend a good quantity of time on to give a natural-sounding result.

To be honest I can't really see why they didn't get Kageyama to record a new version with his band given his broad connection to the franchise. I'd be tempted at first impression to think that they went with Flow to modernise it a little bit for a 2013 audience - but having listened to it and how cheaply produced it sounds I'd place my bet on the fact that Flow were cheaper.

I'm not so sure why people keep insisting on SSJ3 Vegeta making an appearance? If Goku loses to Birusu, then there's no conceivable way that Vegeta would do any better. It's wishful thinking folks... wishful thinking.

I'd prefer for Piccolo to become a Super Saiyan 3 and defeat Bilus. It'd make as much sense, and Piccolo deserves it more.

The only great thing about this movie so far are the backgrounds. They look surprisingly gorgeous, especially in comparison to the ones from the 2008 special which looked like drawings made by kindergarteners. Wish I could say the same about the animation.

The in-universe explanation of Bulma's parents having the house painted a different color whenever the mood strikes them (and obviously being able to afford to do so) comes to mind.
I can't imagine they would actually do that though.

I do prefer the purple Piccolo gi for Gohan (or his Great Saiyaman outfit; oh that would've been been fun to see him fight Birusu in that.) both because I think the Piccolo gi suits him better and because he's had more training under Piccolo than Goku.

Wondering if the 3-rounds-battle structure that holds for OPZ and Strong World will appear in BOG as well. (It's where you end up losing twice, only to come back in the third round with a win).

I wish that dark blue gi he had from when he trained with Goten/fought Broli in movie 10. It was one of his only exclusive outfits as almost every gi he wears is passed down from either Piccolo, Gokuu or Vegeta/Bulma.

That "undetermined plot device" makes me wonder what it could possibly be, because so far we know that he loses as a Super Saiyan 3 during his first battle on Kaio's planet.
But then it seems like he can stand up to him as a regular Super Saiyan. If he already had trouble as a Super Saiyan 3 and nothing had changed, he would fight again as a Super Saiyan 3, knowing it'll be already hard enough as it is.
But the fact that he fights again without going Super Saiyan 3 implies that something has changed. Birus weakened, perhaps? Goku being stronger? Or maybe he has unveiled a way to fight Birus that actually works, some sort of weakness in his way to fight that he failed to notice the first time?
