Episode 60 was outsourced to both Wanpack and MK Seoul, the latter wasn't on this episode and I wouldn't be surprised if one of the upcoming episodes has them doing a bunch of work, probably 69 or 71 (I'm betting 70 will be a solo Yashima episode).Lord Beerus wrote:I was just about to make that comment. A solo job from Yashima would also be good option.ArchedThunder wrote:Episode 60 was outsourced to both Wanpack and MK Seoul, the latter wasn't on this episode and I wouldn't be surprised if one of the upcoming episodes has them doing a bunch of work, probably 69 or 71 (I'm betting 70 will be a solo Yashima episode).Lord Beerus wrote:I was just about to make that comment. This episode looked wonderful. The detail on the characters was very nice as well. Unfortunately, Beerus' face was off in the less detailed shots, but I think they made up for that with the cut of him shattering the crystal.
NEP looks good, too. Seems like there will be a greater amount of animation, so we'll have to hope for the best.

So they've reused the same summoning animation for Shen Long in every episode he's in, that's pretty smart.

A really polished episode, not much movement but the art throughout was solid, mostly in part to Tsuji, her corrections I felt were all over the episode.
Not much in the way of actual animation though, there were some okay character acting moments but for the most part the episode really didn't move, nor did it really need to. Also, I believe they re-used the Shenron summoning.
An okay episode in all, it wasn't anything flashy but was polished enough not to be anything unwatchable (like the first half of last episode).

I wonder if this

is Nashizawa. The eyebrow curve, the shape of the upper lip and the way the nose meets the lip reminds me of this shot of Tullece from Xenoverse 2

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 67
Well, JulieYBM just pointed out some depressing news.
If the last time this happened was any indication, we may well be losing another series director. As of this week, Morio Hatano was credited as the second series director with Kohei Hatano as the first.
If you don't remember what happened last time, Morio Hatano popped up next to Kimitoshi Chioka for a while before Chioka left the series. Not the greatest of signs.
Are we really going to go through yet another series director?

Maybe, but that ear is Manabe's work.ArchedThunder wrote:I'm wonder if this is Nashizawa.

Oh no... I hope Morio Hatano isn't leaving, I mean we finally got an episode directed by him.Ajay wrote:Well, JulieYBM just pointed out some depressing news.

Interestingly Kohei Hatano has been an episode director and storyboarder since the first arc. I really hope this is just them doubling up on series directors to help things out. If it is a replacement that's worrying, not only because we'd be losing another series director, but also because Kohei has never lead a series before.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 67
What even is going on behind the scenes is beyond me at this point. I thought him appearing in #66 was a good sign
. I hope he does not leave, it would be a big loss.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 67
Could someone tell me exactly what a series director does? Do they handle things like who works on what episode or things like the overall look of the series?
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 67
Series Director is the one who oversees the whole project, steering it towards completion by coordinating the various main staff, and making important creative decisions about the project as a whole.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 67
They define the overall feel of a series, oversee all aspects of the production (especially the storyboards) and are in general the top creative authority. A series director's influence changes based on that series director. Some series directors really push themselves and their staff to achieve a vision (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso or anything from modern Kyouto Animation or even Toei Animation's Kyousougiga) while others just keep the cogs running (Kureta Kouhei's tenture as series director for Saint Seiya Omega Episodes #78-98).nite_jay wrote:Could someone tell me exactly what a series director does? Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 67
My expectations are even lower now. Super is a mess. First Chioka, now Hatano two good directors fucked up so bad. Hatano Kohei is a weak director and has yet to do anything that has been impressive.
As for the episode, it was okay. Nothing much to talk about.

So I guess based off of this guy's reputation we shouldn't expect too much improvement if he takes over? At this point I really think Super might as well take a few month hiatus. If 2 veterans couldn't handle a beast like Super I doubt a newbie could.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 67
Oh, he'll handle it. But to compensate for his lackluster talent, compared with whatever chaos caused 2 directors to step down, we'll see a much lower quality of product. That is, assuming that this guy really is stepping down, and it isn't just a typo or a co-director situation.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 67
Seriously, don't get so negative when we don't know for sure if Morio is leaving or not. They could be doubling up to help smooth things out, it could be an error, or Kohei could be series director for this filler (assuming the Hit thing is more than a few episodes) while Morio is focused on the next arc. Again, it's worrying based on what happened last time, but a sample size of one isn't exactly the best thing to base your conclusions on.
Also what's with the hate for Kohei? He storyboarded and directed 38 and 56 and directed 47. I'd say his track record on Super is okay.

The other day Twitter used @Deem939 was posting excerpts from an interview with various Saint Seiya Staff. This part from an interview with Producer Wakabayashi Gou on why he asked Hatano Morio to be series director of Saint Seiya Omega is particularly morbid in light of today's news.

Seriously, we don't know if Morio is leaving or not, stop acting like the man announced his resignation. We need to wait and see what happens.

This happening is suspect to say the least. Sure it could be nothing, but it could also be the indicator of a major decline in the future (ha) of Dragon Ball.ArchedThunder wrote:Seriously, we don't know if Morio is leaving or not, stop acting like the man announced his resignation.
