Well, Bulma was important in almost every arc. When you compare her to female heroes from other classic shonen , she was quite prominent.
Hell, to this day people are often complaining about female characters don't getting fights, receiving poor treatment or needing rescue in One Piece, Naruto and others.
What does Bulma ever do? She rarely contributes to the story.
The people who complain about One Piece female characters are just a bunch of feminazi's who want all females to be superior to any male and look good no matter what.
The majority the females are very important to the plot, strong willed, and can hold their own in a fight. The majority of the people who needed to be rescued were male.
The female characters in Naruto are useless most of the time and badly written though.

So, this is before Kami to Kami, too. Hmm...
The only thing I can think of is they're trying to calm-before-the-storm/familiarize people with the characters' quirks who are new to watching Dragon Ball?
But that feels like starting out with filler. You can't start out with filler and expect to retain a big audience. I cared about the farming stuff back in 2009 when it was fresh; it's 6 years later I don't care about that now.
*Frustrated sigh.*
As long as it's entertaining filler it won't be that bad, I guess. The cute scarf is still cute, so there's that at least.
Whatever happens, I'm sure it will be great. Toriyama hasn't disappointed me with any of his recent material.

What has Bulma done for the story? Everything!
She made the Dragon Radar! She started the adventure!
She helped travel the Namek ship. In fact she commanded it
Made Trunks
Built a freaking time machine
Made battle suits
In GT she made the ship!
Great Saiyanman!

I'm no good with kanji, but if I read this right,Gokû tries to utilize Mr. Satan to get money so he won't have to farm vegetables anymore.
EDIT: No wait, I think Mr. Satan actually shows up to give Gokû money that he (Mr. Satan) was awarded for saving the world from Buu.
Someone needs to translate this, I gather something about Beerus destroying a star while talking to Whis about Super Saiyan God or something? I'm confused.
I ordered a copy of VJump from Amazon.jp the other week; if it arrives before any major plot-news does, I'll probably translate it for myself.
Re: Naruto and OP
I can't speak for Naruto because I've read only up to volume 7 and everything else I know second-hand. One Piece's current arc has been really awkward and uncomfortable with the treatment of some of its female characters in a way it didn't used to be; I'm hoping it's just exclusive to what's being parodied in Dressrosa and things get back to normal in whatever the next arc is (whenever the next arc finally happens).

Basically. Goku imagines fighting Freeza/Cell/Boo while farming; Goten's off from school and is helping him out. Satan shows up and offers him money from the world peace prize (kind of sounds like the DB Earth equivalent of the Noble). Goku refuses at first (he wasn't the only one who fought Boo after all, and even Satan did his part), but finally agrees to accept some of the prize when Goten points out that with it, Chi Chi will probably allow him to stop farming and go off and train at Kaio's. Meanwhile, out in space Beerus is having a big meal prepared for him by the inhabitants of some planet scheduled for destruction (the idea apparently being that he'll spare the planet if he likes their food). The aliens poison the meal, but it doesn't work on Beerus. Ultimately Beerus destroys the planet as scheduled, but the name of one of the dishes (the "Soup Yasai Jinkot") rings a bell with him: it reminds him of the "Super Saiyan God" from his prophetic dream. Beerus and Whis decide to head back home, so that Beerus can try and remember better. Meanwhile, the Kaioshins are keeping tabs on Beerus: East Kaioshin notes that a planet has been wiped out, while Elder Kaioshin has an uneasy premonition.
So, Goku seems set to head to Kaio's to train, while Beerus only knows of Super Saiyan God from his dream. In other words, all signs point to this being a prequel to (possibly an alternate version of) BoG.
So this takes place before BOG and FNF....alright I'm a little conflicted. If it's before BOG, then that means the cast of irrelevancy goes down thankfully. If it's before F which I think it is as Beerus is supposed to be a main cast member, then at least we should get more backstory on SSGSS and how the hell that became a thing. Either way I'm disappointed, but at least there's something to come out of this decision. Though I seem more assured there may be no time skip to after the movies events, or EOZ.
Though with what Herms just said...I guess it may be before BOG after all.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.

Just trying, but Soup Yasai Jin is Vegetable Soup right?
And it totally looks like they are going to tie in all the past 2 movies together into a somewhat major recap!

*Takes this as hope that she somehow gets to see ssjg Gokû in Super.* I'm good with that. I don't understand why they would want to do an alternate version of BOG, but if I still get ssjg Gokû out of it I'm up for that. :3

I'm actually PRETTY sure they will show how Goku (and Vegeta most probably) will train they SSG forms to achieve SSGSSJ

Either they are going to rewrite BoG or they are saying that after Beerus woke up and before he went to Kaio's world he went to destroy some other planet I guess? This is super confusing and I'm interested where it is heading.
Also are we sure this is legit? Just asking because I have no idea what the sources is.

I love all of this. lol. Good start off.
But it's weird that they say Beerus will be a cast regular if it takes place before BoG. My guess is those events lead into the events of BoG, and then we get a time skip into the gap from BoG to F, which is where the Fat Beerus comes into place (though he may interact with Beerus during the pre-BoG era).

After re-reading, it's actually "Jinkot" (ジンコット), which seems to be a made-up word. But yeah, yasai=vegetable, so "Soup Vegetable Jinkot". And obviously the joke is that "Soup Yasai Jinkot" sounds like "Super Saiya-jin God". One of those puns that doesn't translate well.

seems the classic Toriyama-ish bad puns are back again.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, what a weird starting point for the series if that is what it is, so are we looking at a short recap of BoG after that and then the next couple of episodes linking BoG and RF? I'm so friggen curious.

That's true, there are gaps where Beerus could be off doing destruction stuff.
