I bet my right arm it won't either...for explicitly different reasons.
It won't get nominated because Dragon Ball has never exactly been award winning. If eligible, the movie would get snubbed due to quality not due to general awareness. Even if, somehow, it turned out to be the next Incredibles, there is no way they would give an Oscar to some dumb Japanese kids movie without the backing of Ghibli. There's also the problem of it being released in theaters and in a timely manner to be even considered.
It's not like it matters, an Oscar will not help this movie in anyway. The audience for this movie could care less about the Oscars.
If you're not here soon... GET ON!

The Academy Awards aren't happening. This film would be lucky if the budget broke a few million, to say nothing of the storytelling needing to be of sufficient quality.

now the poor otaku dressed in their best Goku gis won't have any tears of joy when masturbating over the Japanese BGM. "Sugooooiii" they would scream, despite being white, 17 and from Colorado.

Starting to wonder if there will be any plot-info-update at all. Those DBH scans with Birusu and Uisu guest-starring would unfortunately count, wouldn't they? And it's 3 pages long, someone on 2ch has the magazine but only commented on how nice the full color manga exert was. *Wants her BOG plot deluge.*
Even so, those pages from Weekly Jump still haven't been scanned/posted, so even if VJump turns out to be a bust there still might be Weekly's info (which also gave BOG 3 pages).
I think I'm just getting antsy waiting like this. This story is equal parts fun and frustrating to follow due to the level of patience I need waiting for news to leak out. I don't want all the spoilers, just the ones that interest me most.
On hiatus.

I hope they animated the scene where Goku powers up to SSj, and then to Ssj2, and eventually to SSj3, much like Toei did
here in Movie 14. It would be an awesome scene for sure.

I believe in terms of anime, only Spirited Away has won an Oscar's in like 2002 for that category, so the chances of BoG winning is slim to none, but it would be awesome if it was at least nominated. This is going to be a worldwide movie, after all.

I'm a hardcore Dragonball fan (who would've thought?) as well as my friend and we both didn't go to see Evolution because we knew how crap it was. I'm sure most other Dragonball fans smelled that crap from a mile away too and didn't go to see it. I didn't support it out of principle. And good thing too, because it's ironic that DB/DBZ are my two favorite shows of all time, yet Evolution was for sure one of the worst movies I have ever watched and one of my most hated.
But yeah, it probably wont get nominated.

I've seen animated movies that looks like total crap with a budget of like $1000 get nominated before. Some of them were even silent with only music instruments doing the talk.
I guess DBZ is not artsy enough for the Oscar's though. No matter, it was just a thought. It'll win
my award. A styrofoam cup with the words "Best movie of the year" written on it with a black marker.

Actually I saw it on DVD from Redbox (I think it was Redbox). My friend rented it when it came out on DVD and we both watched it. We didn't know whether to laugh throughout the movie or rage at how they raped one of my favorite shows. So many mixed feelings..

Yeah, no offense to DB fans, but nothing in the entire franchise deserves an Oscar.
Unless this new movie is better than, say, Spirited Away (which is the only anime that's received one as far as I know) (which it won't be), I doubt that's going to happen.

Are you implying Bio-Broly isn't better than Spirited Away?! How dare you!
LOL, but seriously, I know theres no way it'll ever win anything at the Oscars, I was just hoping it would get at least nominated, since not a lot of 2D animated movies are coming out anymore. But probably not.

lol talk of an oscar? DBZ always has crappy storylines. we already seen it... a dude wakes up after thousands of years of slumber and wants to challenge Goku, beats him up, Goku gets stronger and at the end we all know he will win.
We watch DBZ for the action. Also, I am a sucker for nostalgia... use to watch it when I was like 5 and now that I'm 18 I still love it. Maybe my #1 show of all time. But I'll be the first to say its not Oscar worthy. Naruto has a better story, believe it!

I take it you're not very informed about DBZ. DBZ has a pretty solid story. Yeah the films suffer but thats to be expected.

The storyline for DBZ was actually elaborately structured up to the Freeza Saga (or probably even up the Artificial Human Saga), not Oscar-worthy but still.... LOL at your Naruto statement though. Naruto's storyline was never anything special, it is your standard coming-of-age story and it's very linear. Dattebayo!

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I'm just about done with the concept of reboots and making shows that were products of their time and impactful "new and sexy" and in line with modern tastes and sensibilities. Let stuff stay in their era and give today's kids their own shit to watch.
I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about
your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

True, he could have said Bleach which, as far as I'ma ware of doesn't even have a story.

I think One Piece has a much better storyline than Naruto. There's reasons why the former outsells the latter by such a wide number.
I do realize it's all subjective, but imo Oda's work is just amazing. The time and effort he puts in to world-building along with characterization always impresses me.
