Notably I don't think there were any scenes of Super Saiyan Goku vs. Beerus this time? Is it possible they did away with all of them in favor of ending the fight in SSG a la the manga?
At this point impossible in my view. Also, I'm pretty it is SSJ Goku in this shot

It definitely seems like they're ignoring that plot point, as Goku is clearly going from Ssj1, to Ssj2, to SsjG, then finally SsjB. The whole Base to Blue that was exclusive to Resurrection F has been abandoned. One thing I'm looking forward to here beyond the improved production value is the removal of all the story inconsistencies we had in the original Super; this is a good place to start with. Goku seemingly lost SsjG after fighting Beerus, then out of nowhere he was using it to help Hit in the tournament of power. Vegeta never used or even addressed it, then he just had it against Broly. I don't think we'll see new fights animated from scratch using these forms, but just reminding us they exist will help things in the long rung.
The trailer definitely gives the vibe that theres gonna be at the very least a bit more cohesion between the first three arcs, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.

That trailer makes me even more excited!
The visual seem really pleasing when all corrected with brand new shots when needed, and the new opening could be one of the most epic Dragon Ball songs ever, it gives me chills when it comes up in the trailer with all the epic shots!
The ending seemed quite nice too, but for an ending (I thought it was the opening first since I saw the Japanese version first and couldn't understand there was text saying it was the ending, and I thought "well, that's a bit underwhelming for an opening, it sounds more like an ending").
Between the epic visuals and the epic opening, that new and improved "as it should have been from the start" version is exciting!! (could also be called the "forget the previous version, this is now the REAL Dragon Ball Super intended anime when we take time to do it right" version).
I was already impatient, but now by excitement for it is through the roof!
Everything should always have an update that's basically like "after a while, we now see how to do it better, we keep what is alright and change what needs a redo to give you the final corrected version".
Am I the only one who thought a lot of the Resurrection of F and Tournament parts looked bad? The Beerus stuff looks so good that the other arcs look like they're from a show with a shoestring budget. Am I guessing those are old shots? I don't remember; it's been a long time since I saw it.
Some shots from ROF looked good, but many still have that DBS action-figure look. They're gonna have to do a lot of work to get that arc to look presentable.

I'm gonna watch it because why not but I don't really think it looks good.
Animation still looks stiff and not improved at all, the drawings are bad modern Yamamuro, and the filter doesn't cover the shit. I wonder, too, how awkward the pacing and music placement will feel. And I'm worried about the voice acting considering how much older the cast is. Are they gonna use the original lines or redub it?
I'm curious about the new scenes, at least. Whether they're just fluff or if they add something new to the story.
I'm hoping a lot of that ROF stuff is just work in progress/trailer filler, because I agree, it looks bad.

Honestly, I think showing SSJG in the Golden Freeza is redundant, I'm pretty sure they're not ignoring it, at least not for the Beerus arc, and I think it was never suggested that Goku lost SSJG after fighting Beerus. Especially if you go back to the movie, Goku uses SSJG to destroy Beerus' Hakaidama.
What both movie and anime said is that Goku absorbed the power of SSJG into himself (Which I also understand as him gaining access to God Ki without the need of another ritual) which is why he uses it as a SSJ. So he wouldn't need to transform into the red form anymore.
It's where the "Beyond God" state enters, followed by the manga and movie Fukkatsu no F.
The incosistence being what the standard anime versios of the Beerus and Golden Freeza arcs did. The "Beyond God" state no longer being a thing and from that point, no use of god ki in other forms was seen ever again outside of the actual god forms in the anime (manga already follows that idea since the Beerus arc), so Goku uses his regular base form against FF Freeza which also explains why he doesn't outmatch Freeza in that form like he did in the movie.
But the previous arc in the anime literally followed the same idea as the movie, that the use of God Ki outside of the God transformations should be possible. The remake will not be fixing that as we see SSJ goku fighting Beerus again. And as expected, Base Goku when fighting FF Freeza doesn't have the special aura to indicate that he's using God Ki.
The scene of him going from base form to Golden SSJ then SSJG obviously following the "SSJG is a evolution to SSJ3" idea, which comes from the manga.
That means the Super manga (specifying it as I'm not considering the 2015 movie promotional manga) will remain as the only version of Super that managed to be consistent with the concept.
The anime it seems we will have to stick to the idea that Goku can use God Ki in Base and Regular Golden SSJ forms but for some reason decides to never do it again after fighting Beerus.
So SSJG showing up again in that arc is unnecessary, yeah I think it looks cool, but the lack of Beyond God already explains if the red form is supposed to return or not. Unless they're keeping something in secret, having Goku use SSJG until the end of his fight against Beerus wad the necessary change if they cared about the consistence with that concept.
(The reveal of SSJ1 Goku vs Beerus still happening back then in the second trailer in April being what made me believe that there would be absolutely no changes to the story of the old anime, and I wished I was wrong, but I still believe I'm not )

^ They precisely did that Super Saiyan God appearance to make clear that the transformation is not gone likely because there was a lot of assumptions that it was gone forever back then.
It appeared again in the manga during the fight against Hit but in the anime, it seemed to be lost forever to Super Saiyan Blue until everyone was caught by surprise by Goku using it again in the Tournament of Power, when everybody went "what?! He actually went God again?! That's still possible?!".
Not only does it make clear that Super Saiyan God is still there even if Goku accesses a new blue divine form, but it also partly establish visually in the mind of the viewers how transformations are "piled up" on top of each other, which will serve a purpose in the Moro arc coming later with the progressive downgrades he will have to go through in a specific scene, losing his Super Saiyan Blue form to return to his Super Saiyan God form just like he would go back to base form when losing his Super Saiyan form.
It sorts of makes it clear that Super Saiyan Blue is basically "turn into a Super Saiyan God, then activate your Super Saiyan transformation on top of it", which is sort of what Goku explains to Freeza right in the same scene.
Of course, there's no doubt that in the future, there will be direct Super Saiyan Blue transformation, but I think this decision was taken for the first transformation to clearly illustrate the concept that Goku explains that "this is the Super Saiyan transformation once you've activated the power of a Super Saiyan God". Which is always helpful to visually represent it, it's a nice little extra of this enhanced version if you ask me.

Resurrection F was broken beyond the scope of this project to completely repair, so although there's clear areas of improvement here, the show is still working within the framework of Super 1.0. That arc was a 3/10, and that's being generous, so if this remaster can get it to a 6/10, I'd say that's a major win considering it's not a ground up remake.

I think it actually looks really descent.
You can still see the stiffness in the character designs and some of the animations, but they really did their best to breathe life back into a drowned calf. It’s still largely the same art and animation, but they’ve added filters and effects that make the end result look much more professional. Some scenes are clearly animated much better. For example, Final Form Frieza vs. base Goku. That scene is almost unrecognizable compared to the original. The movements seem much smoother. But that was really necessary, because episode 24 of the original run looked absolutely awful. The color composition also seems much better. Blue Kaioken Goku no longer looks purple, but more like an actual combination of blue and red.
Replacing “Godku” with SSG: one small step for man, one giant step for mankind.
It’s relatively little effort for them to add SSG to the fight with Frieza, but this effectively retcons one of the most heavily debated topics among fans over the past 10 years, I think: whether Goku had “absorbed” the power of SSG after his fight with Beerus in Battle of Gods. Then, when SSG suddenly returned later during the Tournament of Power arc, the confusion was complete.
I think this is simply a logical adjustment to bring the power scaling in Super back into some semblance of order. Still, let’s knock on wood: we do see him spar with Final Form Frieza in base form for a bit, but let’s hope that was simply meant to open the fight, before he starts powering up through the SSJ forms.
We haven’t seen SSJ4, and I don’t expect SSJ4 to suddenly appear in this enhanced version either. It would deviate too much from the source material Toriyama originally wrote for Super. Daima came later. Does that mean Daima and Super don’t take place in the same continuity? No, I think they both still belong to the same “Toriyamaverse” (along with everything else he wrote), but there’s still plenty of time to make a sequel to Daima later on, where they could potentially explain some of the inconsistencies.
There’s still roughly a three-year gap between the end of Daima and the beginning of Battle of Gods. If the franchise isn’t inclined to overwrite End of Z anytime soon, there’s still plenty of ammunition there for more stories down the line.
For the sake of consistency, I'm glad that they're going through with adding in Super Saiyan forms to Goku's fight with Freeza. That being said, I wish they had gone through the extra effort of just removing them from the rest of the series, instead. :p

Well, he simply never goes regular Super Saiyan at all during the fight against Freeza, so there's not much we know about how to transition between regular Super Saiyan and God-energy Super Saiyan forms. We have glimpses and theories as to how the process would work with the Broly movie and the Moro arc though, showing possible transitions between regular Super Saiyan forms and God forms.
Anyway, perhaps because he is not used to the transformation yet (not used to calling God energy AND activating Super Saiyan on top of it), and possibly for the reason of making the concept clear to the viewer, he first calls his God energy to go SSG and then activates the Super Saiyan process to go Blue. He does seem to "push with a scream" after all, instead of effortlessly activating Blue, as if it really takes an effort for him to go God and then manage to go Super Saiyan on top of that - that is, if it's really the scene of his Blue transformation and he simply goes God then Blue without fighting as God. Then when Freeza asks what it is, he tells what we just saw: "it's a little complicated, but it's what a Super Saiyan that has activated Super Saiyan God before looks like", to which Freeza replies something like "Your gibberish doesn't make sense to me at all."
In the future, he'll directly go from base to Blue if needed, perhaps being now used to the transformation.
I think it's really just to make it visually clear: look at the hero activating the latest form you've seen, and then surprise, he actually could activate Super Saiyan on top of it, leading to this brand new form, how incredible! Plus, he explains it if the visuals were not enough.

Exactly, that's why I said in one of my previous posts that it makes no sense. I think it's meant to follow the idea from the manga, that SSJG is a "evolution" to SSJ3, but in the case of the manga you can at least view it as Goku touching larger scales of ki, and God Ki being superior naturally makes him go through his regular forms as well. Though technically it's just a different kind of ki and going through regular forms is not necessary especially if it's SSJG, making the golden forms completely useless (except for Blue), which is why Beyond God existed back then.

The point is that, by doing this, they don't close the hole created between this arc and the Beerus arc. The Beerus arc in the old anime explicitly follows the idea established by the 2013 and 2015 movies, which is that Goku can use God Ki in his base form. And everything indicates that they are not going to fix that for the Beerus arc in this version.
You are right that by having SSJG appear in the Golden Freeza arc, they help the overall audience clearly understand that the form can still be accessed, and generally showing things is better when explaining them. But I call it redundant from the perspective of someone who already understands the story.
Goku lacking the Beyond God state in the old version of the arc plus his base form not outmaching FF Freeza already worked as the anime equivalent to SSJG returning in the manga version of the Champa arc.
To make the change effective in-story, they would need to do in the Beerus arc what the manga did, which is keep SSJG until the end of Goku's fight against Beerus, and absolutely avoid any mention to the concept of using God Ki without transforming, because that touches the Beyond God concept which should be exclusive to the 2013 and 2015 movies.
But so far, everything indicates that they are going to keep the inconsistence, unless, again, I'm wrong, and they have a good explanation for it that we'll have to wait to see.
Replacing “Godku” with SSG: one small step for man, one giant step for mankind.

But the 2015 version of the Golden Freeza arc already clearly retconed the concept of the Beyond God state. It has Base Goku lacking the unique aura and not outmaching FF Freeza, which was exclusive to the movie (and its promotional manga), which followed the God Ki Absorbed concept. In that arc, they already start following the concept established by the manga, which was not ditch SSJG (and alongside it, the Golden SSJ forms, which were supposed to be replaced by SSJ Blue back then in Fukkatsu no F)
The confusion solely existed because:
1: Toei decided to use the Beyond God concept for the Beerus arc. Which didn't proceed for the rest of the series.
2: It was never explained in-universe why "God Ki in Base form" was no longer a thing.
3: Prior to the ToP, SSJG was no longer used, leading to people believe that the form couldn't be used anymore, only SSJB.
Another detail in the old anime, is Goku saying that Vegeta did achieve SSJG. That + the fact that in the Manga Goku uses SSJG until the end of his fight against Beerus + the form returning in the Champa arc pretty much explains everything, the anime was following the concept established by the manga, but it took them one arc to start doing that, that's why the inconsistence.
It will sound weird, but in defense of 2015 Toei though, they rushed the production of the old Super anime a lot, so they probably got confused about how the God Forms should work. They very likely already decided how it would work before they actually saw what the manga did. Which is why only the manga ended up being consistent.
The Golden Freeza arc corrected the direction the anime was going. What the ToP arc did was simply making a more clear visual representation of that correction by bringing back SSJG, which is what this remake is doing here as well. But the original Golden Freeza arc lacking Beyond God already served as the visual representation for the retcon.
But now, 11 years later, retelling the story for the second time, and they are still going to keep it inconsistent? I only hope they are at least going to give a good explanation for it.
For the sake of consistency, I'm glad that they're going through with adding in Super Saiyan forms to Goku's fight with Freeza. That being said, I wish they had gone through the extra effort of just removing them from the rest of the series, instead. :p
100% agree, which was actually the original intent behind Blue, replacing the Golden hair forms. Wish they kept that concept for Goku and Vegeta for the rest of Super instead of bringing the nostalgic forms again. Two of my big letdowns with Super, having Goku and Vegeta use the golden forms became really boring to me alongside them switching back to their clothing from the Cell Saga again instead of continuing with the Whis gi which I miss so much, would love to see them being kept for the improved anime Zamasu and ToP arcs and anime adaptations of Moro, Granola and Super Hero, it would even combine with Gohan also wearing the new outfit inspired by his Master Piccolo

I think the biggest issue that I have with using all of the transformations is that they often don't really get a methodology to them, so we're going through the emotional process of "Oh, he's transforming" multiple times throughout a single fight and it just becomes exhausting. With Fukkatsu no F, it's just the one single transformation: base is the warm up, the transformation is the rising action, and then a return to base due to exhaustion closes us out. It's a pattern that works.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly only makes the multiple transformations work because Broly doesn't have full control of his power and is constantly evolving, so the transformations that Goku and Vegeta employ work as showing them adjusting their own gears to match Broly.
It'd probably be less of a pain to have multiple transformations if they were actually shown to be wisely chosen and used for each specific situation, but that's something that Toriyama would never really care to think about in a consistent way. During the Tournament of Power in the animated series, Goku basically used them based on how much stamina he had to spare, but it's never really made all that clear if his opponents were also trying to manage their stamina.
Only having the newest transformation at a time is easier to write, but since Bandai wants to sell that merch, they need to keep all the transformations in play but they fail to really mitigate the repetitiveness of multiple transformations because there's little internal logic going on, outside of Nagamine's ideas about Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue in his movie.
After a couple of rewatches, it's not that bad, especially compared to the orginal. I still feel like the ROF arc and tournament arc are missing something that makes the Beerus one look so good imo. It could be a lack of dynamic lighting. Everything looks flat imo. I also have a bit of a bias. Because I just despise the way Yamamuro draws Freeza, especially his eyes. I'd pay someone at Toei to put his 'eyeliner' at the top of his eyes. I don't know why, but that always bothered me about DBS Freeza. It's strange because in some shots in the trailer, he does have his eyeliner around all corners of his eyes lol. I think the biggest loser was Frost. Every shot of him looked awful.

In the old anime, the first time Goku transforms into SSJB, he starts by activating SSJ, but solely the aura in his base form, then Blue.
When he transforms into SSJG against Caulifla and Kale, he's using SSJ2, then transforms into SSJ3, then reverts back to SSJ2, then goes God.
In the manga, he jumps straight from SSJ1 to God when fighting Hit.
When he fights Toppo, he goes from SSJ3 to God but only because Zeno orders him to show all his transformations.
To me, it works pretty with how I think it should be, with the form not being treated like a evolution to SSJ3, it shows how it's something apart not tied to the golden hair forms (and I'm not saying that it was given this treatment before, but things like what Toyotaro did in the Moro arc was just wrong imo).
When it comes to screaming or being calm while transformating though, it's never really consistent, especially in the manga, it'll always switch between the two, with the anime mostly using the generic 1 frame activation as far as I remember, and Toppo just casually activates it as well. There won't be anything special about it for that reason, I would say it's more about the method, the ritual or divine training.
Goku in the ritual despite being a SSJ1 doesn't transform into SSJB when acquiring the God Ki, and it's later revealed that the form requires training to be achieved.
So the way I interpret it is that there isn't a actual transition, with Goku becoming SSJGod by touching energy from a distinct scale of power, then Blue being the fusion between the two. It's like a science experiment but you actually do it through consciouness as the energy is not physical, then Boom there's blue. You can also call it like a filter for SSJ.
That said, I think having Goku going from SSJ2 to God in the trailer makes no sense, why SSJ2 though? Wouldn't make more sense for it to be SSJ1? It would help to show that SSJB is a mix between SSJG and SSJ1. I doubt it was a animation error, or else they wouldn't show it in the trailer with such clarity (though... the trailers for Battle of Gods and DBS Broly had SSJ1 Gohan, and Ikari Broly fighting Freeza, so...)
I think the biggest issue that I have with using all of the transformations is that they often don't really get a methodology to them, so we're going through the emotional process of "Oh, he's transforming" multiple times throughout a single fight and it just becomes exhausting. Oh well, it'll probably get fixed eventually.
Keeping only Base Form, Beyond God (being only 50%, not equivalent to God), SSJGod and Blue would be more interesting narrative-wise in my view, especially given how Goku and Vegeta still get stronger in base form at least until the Zamasu arc. But indeed keeping the golden hair forms is more interesting for merch, beyond god is not marketable at all, no wonder why it disappeared after 2015.
Which only makes me wonder, why change the outfits then? If they kept the Whis gi, they could sell stuff like "hey it's SSJ Goku, but he's wearing a different outfit!"

If the God in Base form thing no longer exists, then this opens the way for Super Saiyan Black. In the original Anime (crazy that I have to talk about 2016 this way, but then again 2016 was 10 years ago apparently), it's implied that Black's Base form is perpetually in SSG state, so Rosé is simply his version of Super Saiyan 1. If the God in Base thing is retconned, then Black's Base form is like any other Saiyan, so they can introduce SSJ1 for him and make Rosé his version of Blue, as in the Manga.
Not that I want Black to be rewritten closer to the Manga, mind you. I still want him to be the flamboyant, pompous brat from 2016. Hopefully they don't alter the dialogues and scene direction too much. And don't change Black's perfect theme.
At his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.

I don't know if we'll get a new animated fight of him using Ssj1, but I can see him going through Ssj1 before reaching Rose like how Goku is seemingly going through SsjG against Freeza before reaching Blue. Now, considering we're (hopefully) getting the Zamasu arc later down the line, it could have a higher budget than these three arcs that enables them to give us a new fight of him using Ssj1 against Ssj Vegeta as we saw in the manga.
As someone who likes Infinite Zamasu, I hope they change the unique and original ending of that saga and give Trunks' world a generic "and they all lived happily ever after" Disney ending.
As I said, I don't want a Remaster to change the story, because that's not the purpose of a Remaster. But I'm also curious to see how the narrative around this saga would change if they just gave the fan-service/Disney Fairy-tale Happy ending to Trunks.
Just cut episode 67 entirely and make this scene the finale of the saga, I guess?
A Remaster SHOULDN'T CUT major story developments, but... I'm willing to make an exception just this one time because I want the people saying "this saga is awesome, but the ending ruins it" to react to this change.
