Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Oh, please. Bleach has a story, and it's no more shallow than DBZ or Naruto.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Maybe a black crayon will do.Sinestro wrote:Are you sure the marker's in the budget?Daimakku wrote:I've seen animated movies that looks like total crap with a budget of like $1000 get nominated before. I guess DBZ is not artsy enough for the Oscar's though. No matter, it was just a thought. It'll win my award. A styrofoam cup with the words "Best movie of the year" written on it with a black marker.

I had to stop Bleach because I literally could not follow it. It was good until Rukia went missing for the first or second time in Soul Society and then it became a series all about big extensively draw double-page monster spreads and tonnes of obscure hard to remember Spanish names. It's too convoluted.
Dragon Ball's story has always been relatively simple and that's worked in its favour.

Lucky? How many fans of Dragon Ball there are in the entrie world? This film will be selling like a hot cake, and earn more than quite a few million dollars. I'd assume around a hundred million at most.JulieYBM wrote:The Academy Awards aren't happening. Dragon Ball is popular, but the movie is not going to break records like some fans are hoping for. The chances of this movie having a major theatrical release outside of Japan are very small.

I've only read the first arc of Bleach, so I really can't comment on its current state.
DB's popularity isn't what it used to be. If it was, we'd have those Weekly Jump and V Jump scans by now.
About awards shows: I've never really cared about them. I don't care what Oscar judges think, I'll like what I like, thanks. :3
Trying to bring things back around to BOG; people in the 2ch thread are asking about additional scans, so maybe someone will reply with a link.

People are dreaming if this movie is getting any type of Oscar nomination. Yeah some shitty movies got Oscar nominations and won (I personally hated Crash), but I highly doubt it will happen with this movie. If people pay critics to review this movie then I'm pretty sure nearly all of them have never watch the show and will hate the movie for being confusing. Some fans are too deep inside their little fandom bubbles.

Tangentally-related to Birusu: just learned that *and listening to* his voice actor did covers for "Everybody wants to be a Cat" and "The Circle of Life". (The latter of which is actually pretty good.) Both songs which are weirdly befitting the character.
Oh absurd coincidences. XD
I kind of feel like Birusu needs a villain song now that I know his voice actor's got singing skills. >_>

The Aristocats and the Lion King? Ha! Fitting indeed.Chuquita wrote:Tangentally-related to Birusu: just learned that *and listening to* his voice actor did covers for "Everybody wants to be a Cat" and "The Circle of Life". Being a fan of both Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Bleach, I can testify as much as I love the former, the latter two do indeed have actual plots that actually receive attentive care. Toriyama got away with his thread-bare plots because he was a natural genius. Kishimoto and Kubo actually write plots (which are pretty easy to follow, too!
On the subject of Yamadera being able to single: obviously he needs to do mo-cap work for a Birusu dance video!
Budget. Not gross in-take. As in, the production committee likely did not spend a lot of money on the film to create high levels of fluidity throughout every single cut.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Lucky? Well in Japan these movies hold out on their own since the people of Japan know the franchise very well then most people do. I guarantee the vast majority of the movie-going audience in the US is not at all familiar with the franchise at all. They will know the name, but I doubt they know who the characters are or the story. I remember my film professor didn't know who Goku was until I pointed it out.
As for Dragon Ball being compare to Bleach and Naruto. I do like DB more since I honestly stop caring for Bleach and Naruto for a long time now.

Well, with due credit they do at least stick to their plots.JulieYBM wrote:Being a fan of both Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Bleach, I can testify as much as I love the former, the latter two do indeed have actual plots that actually receive attentive care. I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

I guess I made the most posts in this thread as of today, with the posts over 112. Before that, my most posts in a thread would be "English Dragon Box" from 2009.

Yeah, the Kanzenshuu portion of my life has kind of been lived in this thread for the past several months.
I was seriously at a crossroads with DB this time last year, and I'm still not sure what I'll be doing related to it after BOG has come and gone, but for now I'm enjoying the lead-up to this party that pretty much came out of nowhere and stunned me back in July. If this is the final big hurrah for DB stuff that interests me, so be it, but I'm gonna have a blast with BOG while it's here. :3

Then this makes post 120. That's more than I expected, honestly.
Though I suppose this thread IS over 260 pages long now.

If this movie is released in the US, it'll probably be released either under independent, or limited. I highly doubt it would get a full release because the fan-base just isn't there.
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

At one point I think I actually had hopes that this would see a cinema release in Australia.
As if that would happen.
