No doubt it looked better than Super (especially Season 2 which at times even had great animation, not just decent) but we don't know how will things go for Season 3. Budget and schedule may be different, for better or worse. I hope it's at LEAST as decent as Season 2, Infinity arc is Sailor Moon's Saiyan/Freeza arc, the one that sealed the deal and made the franchise a phenomenon. They can't mess it upcoola wrote: To be perfectly honest, i didn't really find animation to be that bad, especially in Season 2, and most errors were fixed for home release. It certainly looked better than Super, in my opinion
Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?

No, Sailor Moon Crystal didn't get better until the second season. That's a whooping 13 episodes of shit. Even then, the Black Moon arc wasn't perfect, but it came out much better than the Dark Kingdom arc. It must've had to do with the fact they were limiting changes from the manga, and brought in episode directors from the original anime.ParkerAL wrote:From what I've heard, Sailor Moon Crystal got better after the first batch of episodes, right?
Maybe Dragon Ball Super will find its feet too.
I'm pretty excited for the next season, and I really like the teaser image. It's been getting some negative feedback on Genvid, where everyone is saying they look too "moe". Considering how much I hated the original designs in Crystal, I'll take just about anything.

They don't look moé to me. They look like characters from Doki Doki Precure, but that's only because the new character designer is the same person who designed the characters in DokiPre (and also Suite). I think the reason they didn't go the Suite route is because the Suite Precure designs coincidentally look somewhat similar to the 90's Sailor Moon anime.

Girls look much younger in Crystal Season 3

They're cuter but still nowhere near as good as the designs from the 1990s series. Hopefully the animation supervisors will have more fun drawing this time around.

I agree. It's still a vast improvement over the previous style's sharp chins, huge foreheads and dopey, emotionless eyes.

I like the new designs; they look a lot more mobile.
The manga's designs, while pretty, don't necessarily lend themselves to movement. When done well, Season 1 & 2's character designs could be pretty still and in motion (see that one episode near the end of Season 2), but they seemed harder to work with.

Looks weak, mouth lines are weirdly wide. Seasons 1/2 flet like they captured manga style better. Ohh well hopefully just first promo pic and the show will look good. Please no CGI transformations this time...

The key visuals look good. The key animation probably won't.

I'm happy they've dropped the angular eyes for Chibiusa and gone back to a more rounded look.
Overall this really is starting to look like a mixture of the 90's character designs + Suite Precure's designs.

it is pretty funny, that so many people think, that girls look too young now, they are 14/15 year old girls, it is normal they look young, plus, such cute design and dark storyline give me Madoka vibe

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
It's funny, Pluto looks exactly the same but everyone else is a little bit "cuter". The designs look a lot more streamlined, and look like they'd be more natural in animation. Major improvement from the wonky designs from the previous artist. Sailor Moon looks adorable, I think she looks more like the original TV version. My only complaint is that Mars and Neptune look really off. I can't put my figure on it, but Neptune looks super off model. She looks younger. Mars' eyes look too stiff. Saturn looks too young, but that's not really a complaint.
It's funny how the darker storyline has cuter character designs. That's Japan for ya!

Pluto has always been the oldest and filled the 'mentor sailor' role, so it suits her to not look cutesyMosaic wrote:It's funny, Pluto looks exactly the same but everyone else is a little bit "cuter". Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
Because unlike DBZ, the Sailor Moon anime was a far cry from the manga. It went for a character-driven monster-of-the-week story opposed to being a darker plot-driven story like the manga whereas the DBZ anime was mostly faithful to the manga bar from filler scenes and padding.
It's the same reason why FMA was re-animated for Brotherhood.

Find that kinda interesting given the new Viz dub has quite a few of the Madoka actors in it, and Madoka herself will be Saturn.coola wrote:it is pretty funny, that so many people think, that girls look too young now, they are 14/15 year old girls, it is normal they look young, plus, such cute design and dark storyline give me Madoka vibe![]()

Re: Why is Toei reanimating Sailor Moon but not DBZ?
oh god i would really not want modern day Toei to be reanimating anything Dragonball Z. Super's has been abysmal and people who are touting the "corrected" blue ray versions have missed the point entirely..slapping a few edits to a few frames isn't going to save this disaster.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/31321723@ ... 1/sizes/o/ Poster with much better quality. I like that characters look more lively this time, with all respect to Season 1/2 very often characters looked like liveless dolls.
