And all this bullshit that people have been spewing on the net will look ridiculous. I really hope so.

Fixed that for ya.
This movie looks nothing like Mortal Kombat.

Well, how aren't they?
The way I see it, it's all the same stereotyped tripe.
I know, I know, the Dragon Ball movie isn't out yet, but as mrkaizoku asked (and as I did twice before), why would one look forward to it, based on what we've seen/heard so far?
Well, live action adaptations of manga aren't exactly being "churned out" like those other movies. Hell, some are pretty damn decent (Speed Racer anyone?), and the ones in the future (Akira with Leonardo DiCaprio, Battle Angel Alita by James Cameron) might be really good.

Possibly.

Visually "interesting," but the trailer was enough. And does that really count as a manga adaptation? ^^;

And then again, maybe not.

I don't know which one we're talking about but the trailer for the first Mortal Kombat was much more exciting than this one.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

If we're all here for a reason then I'm just visiting.

If it's held in your heart then you can't let go.

I never said the trailer was more exciting than Mortal Kombat. I said the movie itself doesn't look like Mortal Kombat.

EDIT: Also, I would like to add that this might not be the official trailer yet anyway, as screen's from this appeared on the net months ago. So who knows, this might have just been another edit, I'm not keeping my hopes up though. Until a trailer appears on an official website, not youtube, I won't be 100% convinced.
EDIT 2: And NO, I don't think this is fake, but it could be a rough edit.

Mach GoGoGo! was originally both a manga and anime, yeah. "Speed Racer" wasn't really any fundamentally different aside from the names.

I know, I was just poking fun at you. But you did used to be heavily pro-dub (to the point of disregarding the Japanese version, or even the manga). Hell, didn't you change your outlook on Dragon Ball as a whole because I reused Mike's April Fool's joke on you? Or something like that...
Olivier Hague wrote:Er... Yes, they are? ^^;
Really? What else has come out recently besides Speed Racer? I mean, I know we hear "talks" of live action Death Note or GOTH, but these things haven't exactly been coming out that often.
Olivier Hague wrote:Visually "interesting," but the trailer was enough. And does that really count as a manga adaptation? ^^;
Did you not see it, then? Give it a chance if you haven't, you might be surprised. I mean, the source material was pretty silly to begin with, so it goes without saying that the live action film might look a little ridiculous, too.

Yeah, "Mach GoGoGo" was based on a manga. But that's just splitting hairs. Do you really think that the folks adapting Dragon Ball were reading the manga for reference? ^.^
Olivier Hague wrote:And then again, maybe not.

Well, obviously a familiar setting and familiar actors are going to make more people see the movie. Movies are, after all, made first and foremost to make money. But changes aside, it might still be a good movie.

You do realize that Japanese adaptations of manga series make many changes, too, right? Ever see Death Note? Those got chopped up quite a bit, but still managed to be decent (or, in the case of the second film, some consider the ending superior to the manga's ending). Don't act like it's BIG BAD HOLLYWOOD doing all of these horrible things.

It's okay, I'm just toying with the idea that they turned the kintoun into the sports car.
(in fact, it would explain the color... when I first saw the trailer, I seriously wondered if I missed the rumors about the huge fight sequence next to the cab company)
Wouldn’t be the worst part. From Wikipedia:
A large amount of Dragonball was shot in an abandoned jeans factory, also located in Durango, Mexico.
Emphasis mine. :P

I sincerely doubt they care one way or the other what a bunch of people on the Internet say about them. They got paid, didn’t they? It’s not like Daizenshuu EX is a major movie reviewer or anything; we aren’t going to crush their dreams. Besides, compared to the rest of the Internet this is actually pretty tame.

... well, I was going to say that the apple fell far from the tree, actually. ^^;
I mean... The Wachowski brothers (brother and sister?) went to great lengths to impose an "interesting" visual style (which is also the movie's main raison d'être, as far as I can tell)... but it's not like that style has much to do with the original material, right?
Personally, I consider that movie to be loosely based on the "Speed Racer nostalgia," and mostly about the Wachowskis' ambitions of a "CG pop" action flick...

Sorry, I didn't realize you were referring to the frequency specifically... I was more thinking about the way those movies are being made "in auto-pilot," defined more by their intended "target demography" than anything else.
Do you really think that the folks adapting Dragon Ball were reading the manga for reference? ^.^
From where I'm sitting, it doesn't look like they were using anything called "Dragon Ball" for reference...
Well, obviously a familiar setting and familiar actors are going to make more people see the movie.
Well, obviously, I'm not interested.
(especially considering there's already an Akira movie... maybe somebody should tell them?)

Urgh. That was terrible. And the problem wasn't with the parts that got "chopped up," really.
Don't act like it's BIG BAD HOLLYWOOD doing all of these horrible things.
Seriously, it's mostly Big Bad Hollywood. "Oh, hey! Let's honor Akira Kurosawa's work! And what better way to do so... than to make Rashomon 2010?!"
And as bad as the Japanese Death Note live-action movies were, they were still recognizable...

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said that they were "different beasts." Sure, a bad live action manga adaptation might come out every once in a while, but they aren't coming out a few times a year. ^.^

Well, it was a 2 hour+ movie... I think it did a decent job of adapting the original material, considering (then again, the author was in charge, soooo).
If anything, I think the pacing was a bit flawed...
The acting? Or...?
Yeah. And the characterization in general. And the scenario.

Just saw the high quality version and I thought I'd post my thoughts.

For the people who say this looks nothing like Mortal Kombat, I'm gonna have to say take off the nostalgia goggles and cut the bullshit. Tonally and visually, it's very similar to Mortal Kombat. MK the movie was every bit as absurd and ridiculous as what was shown in the trailer. But at least that movie was true to the source material.

With the exception of the character's names, the yellow ball, and the orange gi, there is nothing in that trailer that seems even remotely like the comic/cartoon to me.

That's because you're wanting SO GODDAMN BADLY to find anything wrong so you can piss and moan about it.

Good fucking damn, it's a list of the characters.
And no, it's not a major concern...but it is one more stupid thing about it. I doubt it will be appearing in the movie for a second...otherwise what would be the relevance of putting it in the trailer
The first scene of the first Iron Man trailer is of a fancy car WITH ROCK MUSIC.

OH GOD IT'S NOT IRON MAN THERE A CAR A CAR ITS NOT A 1963 MODEL WAAAHHHH HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE IN VIETNAM WAAHHHH OH GOD THEY'RE DOING A TONY/PEPPER LOVE STORY OH FUCK JESUS SAVE ME THE SKY IS FUCKING FALLLLLLLLLOOLOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLINNNNNGNNGNGNGNNGNGNN

Same deal with half the other whining. Bulma's got a gun? THE WHOLE WORLD'S COME UNDONE oh wait, she had a gun in the first damn chapter because she shot goku in the face with it

Goku/ChiChi, whatever. I can see why some don't like it, but I prefer this to the original. Yeah, I said it. Fuck you.

Umm... do you people actually want to continue posting about this?

'Cuz I really don't have an issue of putting my money where my mouth is and locking this thread and dis-allowing any further ones. I don't want to, but I certainly don't have a problem doing it if it needs to be done. Some of the posts have been fine, but goodness... some...? Oh my.

Consider this the global final warning.
