Goku was established as a "fighting maniac" even as far as the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai where he stopped Kami from helping him beat Piccolo simply because he wanted to win the tournament legitimately (even though Piccolo clearly doesn't care about the rules since killing is prohibited) and fed him a senzu after beating him so he can have a rival.

Shunkan Idou, Eye Beam, Android Barrier, Hellzone Grenade, Hell's Flash, Rocket Punch, Candy beam, Madusa spit, mystical sword, absorption, Galactic Donuts, and Super Ghost Kamakize Attack.

-Vegeta allowing #19 to absorb him so he can rib his hands off
-Piccolo catching Dr. Gero off-guard by suppressing then going full-force at the last second
-#18 purposely making Vegeta waste his energy
-Piccolo playing possum against Cell
-#16 playing possum against Cell
-Cell playing possum against the androids
-Cell goading Vegeta into letting him become perfect
-Vegeta goading Cell into tanking his Final Flash
-Cell exploiting the weakness of Trunks' "new" transformation
-Goku's Warp Kamehameha
-Goku killing Yakon by purposely feeding him too much energy
-Fat Boo trapping Vegeta into his skin wrap
-Bootenks' various mindgames on Gohan
-Booccolo tricking Goku into letting absorb Gohan at the last second with his missing antenna

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Many of these attacks are indeed cool, but eye beams? Really? Piccolo have those during 23rd Budokai already! And even if we think about it, many of these attacks or some form of ki-blast, or a villain technique.

Hmm, yeah, I forgot many of those, but even then it's not on the same level like Budokais or Freeza arc, in my opinion.

I agree with your opinion. These fillers make Saiyan arc more interesting and balanced. And even more mature sometimes. (Orphans filler and Dinosaur-friend filler)
And fillers greatly improved Boo arc, which was really uninspired in manga.

Yeah, this is part of why I said Kid Goku was better than Adult Goku, since we only started getting this new characterization at the 23rd Budokai. But even then, we still got Goku's early stint at fatherhood in Z, and his emotional monologue at discover that HE killed his grandpa. Right now in Super, Goku seems even more emotionally detached, and is often portrayed as nothing BUT a fighting maniac. Without the emotional moments to balance him, Goku's flaws feel exaggerated and draw too much attention for a character that wasn't written to be this complicated.

Yeah, even the Princess Snake stuff shows Goku's love for his family when she peeks into his mind. I'm not sure if that a characterization we'd see now.

You're right, goku showed absolute no love for his family in episode 43, 61, or working as a farmer..

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Since we have a lot more slice of life and downtime in Super, we do get to see Goku enjoy family life more. Hell, one of my favourite moments is Goku reacting to Gohan not joining the tournament.
When Super apparently shoves Goku down our throats:

Or working as a part time security guard. I mean, that was basically charity work. And with that in mind, was it ever implied in the original story that Goku had any kind of job?

Goku never had a job in the original series.

And yeah, Super is fucking his character.... HARD!!!

Too bad in the manga Goku acts like a bit of an asshole when Gohan decline to comes to tournament to support his family. In the anime, he is far more accepting of it.

In short: I'd describe the Super Manga as a very well drawn void. It's beautiful emptiness.

There's a spark of truth to that, although it doesn't really apply to the FT arc yet, but we'l see. So far, it's a product that doesn't hold up on its own, which is detrimental.

I don't give a Kardashian's ass about the logistics behind Saiyan hair and the constant obsessing over it. If you're gonna hate Super and GT, at least hate them for better reasons than "THEY DON'T ADHERE TO VEGETA'S THROWAWAY HAIR LINE FROM THE CELL ARC!".

Mind you these are the same guys who don't give ANY of the SS forms any grief for changing people's hair but that's a whole other can of worms.

This is very true, while the manga is definitely better crafted, certain bad decisions and a complete incapability to work as its own, standalone story you can enjoy without the anime is a huge duo of blows working against it.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

How the Black Arc Should End (by Lightbing!):

I'm not liking the Manga's handling of F!Trunks, he seems to have a lot less of an emotional connection to the situation so far.

Well if the manga is nothing then the anime is less than nothing.

Sexier words have never been spoken. Out of all the incongruities in the franchise, for many fans obsess over a throwaway line is ludicrous. I mean, is it really worth caring about a nothing statement from Vegeta that was obviously just an excuse for Toriyama to draw Trunks' hair differently? I don't think so.
