1. Why did you quote the whole thing?! And there's a quote button for a reason. Try using it instead of copying it like that!

2. I figured by now people know that I only use Dragon Box screen shots. I have 'em, so why not use 'em, right?

3. I never, ever, remove grain from screen shots! If I do anything at all to my screen shots, I will only use the "Auto Contrast" and "Auto Level" functions in Photoshop, and/or re-size them. But the ones above I merely re-sized, and that's it.

Anyone remember that really old animated christmas movie 'Twas the night before christmas'? with the family of mice? That era of super big super saiyan eyes already reminds me of that movie.

What a surprise.

Looks like the Japan DBoxes really do cleaner than the US one, those pictures are really pristine!

Thanks for the detailed explanation and comparison shots, Hujio. Like I said, my sampling size since I became interested in comparing is limited to a pretty small sample base of the overall series thus far, so I wasn't really aware. Heh, if you do ever get the time/motivation, a section to the site dedicated to this kind of stuff would certainly be appreciated by me at least. But, yeah, episode 161 certainly isn't up to the standard I had come to expect from his team through the Saiya-jin and Freeza arcs.

It's strange, though. Even though the actual key animators are different (Uchiyama actually doing the drawing), and the quality has plummeted, it's still clearly definable as that studio's work. I can see it in the characters' eyes. And when I've looked at still images from the 22nd Budoukai, I've been able to pick out Ebisawa's work, but it doesn't look nearly as bad as his Z era. Maybe the rounder character designs they're basing their drawings from help to combat the triangle tendencies or again just a side effect of rotating key animators. But once again, I was able to recognize the studio right away just by how they drew the characters' eyes.

It's always the eyes.

No, they look almost the same. You can't judge things by those small pictures. Do you understand they're small because Hujio was just showing the difference in drawing styles and not the actual quality of the picture? So, to put it your way, they really don't cleaner then the US boxes. :?

Why do you keep posting in between shots? Not to backseat mod, though nobody else has pointed this out, but this thread is for discussing the worst drawn episodes in the series, not for pointing out random in between shots, which have honestly been the majority of your images in this thread...

Besides, in between shots sometimes do look bad, but it doesn't matter since they are on the screen for a fraction of a second, so you can't find 1 bad in between frame and then say the whole episode looks the worst in the entire series, as that's how in between shots tend to look. You can find bad in between shots in any episode or movie...

Oh my God, I can't find the picture but its from movie 8 where Piccolo drops Vegeta in the air and a frame or two gives him this super tiny face but really big chin area, can anyone find that one?

It is not an in-between shot, why are you claiming this? Did you go to that specific part in the movie and go, "Oh that is there for only one frame."? No you didn't, you assumed it is in between. I will prove right now it is not an in-between frame.

All these links below are to a frame that is on screen for a duration of 1/6 of a second EACH for a total of two thirds of a second and was really noticeable to me when I was watching it, and made me go WTF is wrong with his hand. And a shot of his hand not looking all screwed up was only shown for 1/3 of a second and not even staying still, so his hand looking decent was the in-between shot, but for some reason the bad drawing of his hand was on screen for much longer.

But to be fair the whole movie doesn't look bad, but they do sometimes cheap out on the animation and drawing quality.

Keep in mind this shot is taken from Kai, which fixed a lot of this awkward animation through various cuts and edits. That was a funky looking episode to be sure, in both looks and movement.

Ug, thank you. Seems like ninety percent of this thread has been ignoring that.

The latter day Last House episodes will always, always look worse than the Studio Live episodes. Studio Live's screenshots may be hilariously triangular as hell, but at least their characters move well. Conversely, Last House screenshots may look slightly better, but they're still really wonky, use thicker lines for some reason, and animate like absolute shit. Anything Cell Games through the end of GT from them is a total eyesore.

Also, I highly recommend someone check episode 58 of GT. I'm sure there are episodes from that team which look and animate just as bad in Z, but that's the most immediately familiar one for me.

Okay, guys, can we not turn this into a random screenshot of whatever funny looking drawings we can find? This is a thread about the worst animated episodes, not whatever awkward bit of animation you can find.
